Big men's straw hat

I'm over 40, and I suddenly notice for the first time this summer many guys my age (or even younger) wearing great big straw hats to protect them from the sun.

Would you ever wear something like this, or would you consider that a sign of having given up?

I have a panama fedora for the summer. In winter I wear a knit cap under a hoodie.

I started to see hats with wide brims at places like the grocery store, Rite Aid, the hardware store last year. There's a ton more this year. Not just straw, but different fabrics, colors. Some have a neck covering. They're pretty much unisex. I wear a baseball cap when I'm out in the sun. I'm considering getting one. More shade is good.

I love this hat. I love in Florida where the sun is beating down at 7am. I have a dog who needs walking. I wanna this hat.

Great thread! I've been looking for a hat with a large brim just like the one posted. I have 5 acres to mow and this would be perfect to keep the sun off my face. I don't give a witches patoot what others think of how it looks on me. Function over fashion.

Gotcha, R3

I'm looking for one that doesn't have too broad a brim. I'm tall and skinny and I don't want to look like a floor lamp.

Maybe the urban sombrero’s time has finally come.

That hat is fug. I have a nice broad-brimmed khaki-colored hat for very hot sunny days that is a lot more stylish than that.

Buy a nicer hat.

R8 Oh sweetie. One only needs a fashion scarf around the hat to make a fashion statement!

I like to pair it with a big ole hoop skirt and linger on the veranda, awaiting my gentleman callers.

Mercy!

Just this morning I passed a city work crew digging a bunch of holes near the side of the road and five of the ten were wearing hats like OP's (though I'm guessing they didn't pay $32+ for their versions). I think it would be great if these became normalized for men. I've taken my uncle to the dermatologist a number of times in the past two months and it was not pretty sitting in that office and seeing people who'd had skin cancers removed.

I live in Atlanta and I'm noticing very chic Black men and women have been carrying parasols. I think that will be the next big thing
