Why didn’t Frances Fisher have a bigger career?

I guess she’s best known for playing the mother in Titanic, but she seems to have had a rather sporadic career. She’s had bit parts in various movies and has done some television movies as well. She appeared in an early episode of Roseanne as a bartender at the Lobo, and she was originally cast as the wife Jill on Home Improvement before getting replaced.

She gave lousy head- like being sucked on by a busted Hoover.

She never seemed patrician enough for her role in Titanic. I wish Miss Dunaway hadn't turned it down.

She got her start playing police detective Deborah Saxon on Edge of Night, 1976-80.

She's good as the bull dykey future lesbian in the Patty Hearst movie.

by Anonymousreply 4July 11, 2023 6:44 AM

Maybe she didn't want to work all that much.

Dated George Clooney by the way.

by Anonymousreply 5July 11, 2023 6:51 AM

Wasn't she lobotomized and committed to a psychiatric loony bin? She seems to have led a colorful life!

She had a kid w clint eastwood and this show came of it, eventually (it’s the stepmother who is in it, not frances)

She was an unattractive redhead who somehow managed to squeak through with her vacuum seals back on Cermack?.

by Anonymousreply 8July 11, 2023 7:06 AM

She looked freaky.

by Anonymousreply 9July 11, 2023 7:09 AM

In 2019, she starred in the Laguna Playhouse production of The Lion in Winter with Gregory Harrison.

I’ve been watching her on Edge of Night and think she’s great and vastly underrated.

I had watched her on Guiding Light when I was a teen — she wasn’t well utilized there, but she’s really electric on Edge.

I liked her in The Big Tease with Craig Ferguson.

Her daughter was married for 8 days to Jordan Feldstein (Jonah and Beanie's brother).

Clint didn’t like his girlfriends to work and treated them like shit.

by Anonymousreply 14July 11, 2023 4:52 PM

That's what I thought, too, r14. Wasn't he incredibly controlling of Sondra Locke?

by Anonymousreply 15July 11, 2023 5:10 PM

R12 — I forgot all about that movie, I remember really liking it. Need to watch it again.

by Anonymousreply 16July 11, 2023 5:13 PM

People are still upset about her performance as Lucy.

She had more crabs than a seafood buffet.

The elder probably PAID good money so the Fedsteins were properly Kiboshed for trying to take over the strip.

[quote]Her daughter was married for 8 days to Jordan Feldstein (Jonah and Beanie's brother).

Was that the guy that Jeremy Pivens character on Entourage was based on?

If Pivens’ character is anything like him in real life, her eight day marriage was nine days too long! Poor girl.

by Anonymousreply 20July 12, 2023 7:32 AM

Because she's not that good of an actress. And she's got a weird, all-nostrils type nose.

by Anonymousreply 21July 12, 2023 7:46 AM

For reasons that are well known to her.

by Anonymousreply 22July 12, 2023 8:24 AM

The Big Tease is on my rotation of rainy day movies. I'm surprised we've never discussed it on DL. Very funny.
