Well R2, Cher was one of the acts who helped to make Gypsy-style arrangements fashionable in the late 1960s (Bang Bang, Behind The Door), and on top of GT&T, she also sang the ethnicity-themed Half Breed and Dark Lady, which were huge hits. However, that is as far as she went and she's never sung anything similar since the mid-seventies.

Half-Breed was about American Indians; Dark Lady wasn't about any group in particular.
