I'm just wondering. So many songs about Gypsies. Is there a connection between that and her backstory?
Is Cher part Roma?

She’s Armenian.

How many songs does she have about Gypsies? I can only think of Gypsies, Tramps, and Thieves.

Yes, R2, just one. OP is an idiot and a troll desperate to start a particularly pointless thread.

Well R2, Cher was one of the acts who helped to make Gypsy-style arrangements fashionable in the late 1960s (Bang Bang, Behind The Door), and on top of GT&T, she also sang the ethnicity-themed Half Breed and Dark Lady, which were huge hits. However, that is as far as she went and she's never sung anything similar since the mid-seventies.

What about that dark woman (clap clap!) song R2? Isn't that one too?

Half-Breed was about American Indians; Dark Lady wasn't about any group in particular.

I always assumed Dark Lady was about the Gypsies. I mean who else would be doing fortune telling?

In New Orleans? Probably a black woman.

Armenians are similar to gypsies in that they were pushed from their homeland all over the world.

Most pop stars don’t write their songs. Bob Stone wrote this, but it was due to a request by Sonny Bono. It was originally called Gypsies, Tramps & White Trash. Seriously.
Roma are originally from India. Cher is Armenian. She also used to appear in Native American garb in a way that wouldn’t fly today, for better or worse.

Correction: Cher is half Armenian & her mom claimed English, German, Irish, French, Dutch, and Cherokee descent.

Well if Cher is Cherokee I don't think dressing in Native costume is a big deal. Why would anyone get upset by that?
