John Cusak

So, is he gay or what?

by Anonymousreply 85July 16, 2023 9:25 PM

Who is he?

by Anonymousreply 1July 8, 2023 6:14 PM

Not a clue who that is, OP, but your post reminded me of John Cusack, the actor.

by Anonymousreply 2July 8, 2023 6:16 PM

I think OP means "John Cusack," the 57-year-old actor who used to be famous in the 90s-00s.

by Anonymousreply 3July 8, 2023 6:18 PM

He seems more asexual than anything else.

by Anonymousreply 4July 8, 2023 6:19 PM

He had a reputation as a misanthropic alcoholic in Chicago in the mid-nineties.

by Anonymousreply 5July 8, 2023 6:25 PM

I saw him sitting alone a couple of times at the gay bar on Oak Street, I don't remember the name of the bar.

by Anonymousreply 6July 8, 2023 6:28 PM

I believe you, R6, but I would be stunned if he were gay.

by Anonymousreply 7July 8, 2023 6:40 PM

There's a gay bar on Oak Street?

by Anonymousreply 8July 8, 2023 6:44 PM

I admired his performance in The Grifters

by Anonymousreply 9July 8, 2023 6:47 PM

It was a very quiet laid back bar and you go downstairs to get to it. He didn't seem very interested in the clientele. Probably just wanted to be left alone.

by Anonymousreply 10July 8, 2023 6:48 PM

And there was some movie 🍿 in a record store that he really nailed

by Anonymousreply 11July 8, 2023 6:50 PM

He's a wonderful actor--excellent in "The Grifters," "Bullets Over Broadway," "1408," "Maps to the Stars," and many lesser movies. It would be oddly satisfying to know that he likes dick.

by Anonymousreply 12July 8, 2023 6:57 PM

Wow. The only bar I remember on Oak St. was the one next to Papa Milano's. (I moved away 15 years ago) I heard he liked to drink at small members' lounge in Bucktown. Not interested in the clientele sounds right. He just wanted to be left alone with his drink. Apparently, there's a family history. I had a friend in AA who'd immediately blab her celebrity sightings at meetings. She excitedly reported that his younger sister had been released from Hazelden and was attending meetings at the Chicago office.

I did here one specific story of a shopping trip to Bloomingdale's. He was buying throw pillows and spoke through his assistant to the sales associate never once speaking directly to the person.

by Anonymousreply 13July 8, 2023 7:09 PM

It must have been around 1990-1993 when I saw him, really can't remember the name of the bar.

by Anonymousreply 14July 8, 2023 7:11 PM

Seems likely. He used to do the DiCaprio thing of "dating" models so we hopefully wouldn't notice he never married or had kids.

by Anonymousreply 15July 8, 2023 7:21 PM

I thought he was an abusive boyfriend. Didn't he abuse Neve Campbell and she wasn't allowed to do much while they were together which is why she disappeared?

by Anonymousreply 16July 8, 2023 7:23 PM

He fucked me for 2 dollars

by Anonymousreply 17July 8, 2023 7:24 PM

Major asshole vibes.

by Anonymousreply 18July 8, 2023 7:25 PM

I prefer his sister Joan. But now I'm genuinely curious why he disappeared from acting. Is he a jerk?

by Anonymousreply 19July 8, 2023 7:28 PM

R5 = Jeremy Piven

by Anonymousreply 20July 8, 2023 7:30 PM

Per my friend in the biz, he is pleasant but weird

by Anonymousreply 21July 8, 2023 7:31 PM

He hasn’t disappeared, he has finally committed himself to kickboxing. Sport of the future, Sir.

by Anonymousreply 22July 8, 2023 7:44 PM

There's something about his voice, or the way he uses it, full of whispers and saliva, that makes me want to turn him off.

by Anonymousreply 23July 8, 2023 7:48 PM

I liked him in the underrated film, Identity.

R17 — soooo funny!

by Anonymousreply 25July 8, 2023 11:22 PM

No idea about John’s sexuality.

What I do know is that his sister Joan is a goddamned national treasure.

by Anonymousreply 26July 8, 2023 11:23 PM

Many convincing leading ladies. Particularly Daphne Zuniga in The Sure Thing.

by Anonymousreply 27July 9, 2023 1:06 AM

Heard he liked licking armpits

by Anonymousreply 28July 9, 2023 1:08 AM

The story was much better than the film.

He was outed in the book "You'll never spa in this town again"....As was Billy Zane. And Paul Giamatti..So on and so forth.

The only time I recall John Cusack going out of his comfort zone as an actor was in Being John Malkovich. And he was fantastic in that. He's got a unique vibe. He's been great in every single thing he's done. He's John Cusack. On a personal level though, he always struck me as "dark."

by Anonymousreply 31July 9, 2023 1:15 AM

Personality of a wet mop ! And not attractive and suffers from extreme assholism

by Anonymousreply 32July 9, 2023 1:19 AM

He is one of the few Hollywood actors i have no interest in seeing naked.

by Anonymousreply 33July 9, 2023 1:22 AM

From a Google Groups chat thread from 1998 (so you KNOW you can trust it):

"I can speak for Cusack--my cousin grew up with him in Chicago, and if he's gay, it's the best-kept secret of his life."

by Anonymousreply 34July 9, 2023 1:22 AM

He gave many memorable performances over the years. I enjoyed him in High Fidelity

Does the “spa” tale about John have the ring of truth to it?

by Anonymousreply 36July 9, 2023 1:34 AM

R36. Yes. It was like an old timey gay ratting out people he saw at the bathhouse. The book was before every phone and doorknob had a camera. They also talked about Van Damme. It talked about gays of "a certain age". Or older.

by Anonymousreply 37July 9, 2023 1:39 AM

Do you remember any details about the Cusack spa story from that book, R37?

by Anonymousreply 38July 9, 2023 1:46 AM

He is king of underrated movies that were financially successful. Identity, 1408, Runaway Jury were very successful yet no one ever talks about them.

by Anonymousreply 39July 9, 2023 1:54 AM

I’d fuck him.

by Anonymousreply 40July 9, 2023 2:10 AM

He was very cute when he was younger but nothing about him says gay to me.

by Anonymousreply 41July 9, 2023 2:18 AM

He has old lady mouth

by Anonymousreply 42July 9, 2023 3:23 AM

Love it, that would be cool if he was on the team

by Anonymousreply 43July 9, 2023 3:25 AM

R6 was it Gentry's?

by Anonymousreply 44July 9, 2023 4:37 AM

Pompous. Stupid politics.

by Anonymousreply 45July 9, 2023 4:49 AM

A Berniecrat and member of the Democratic Socialists of America, Millionaire division

by Anonymousreply 46July 9, 2023 4:51 AM

Yes, definitely a ding-dong in the political scheme of things, but what about his *dong* dong? Meager? Monster?

And what happened in that goddamn spa!

by Anonymousreply 47July 9, 2023 5:09 AM

Love his sister.

R38 = I honestly don't. If I come across the book (I have a lot of books) I will let you know. The interesting thing about the book was it was banned on Amazon when it first came out ten years ago. I had to buy it on Ebay. But it is available on Amazon now. You can get it for 3 bucks plus shipping. It's worth 3 bucks. But 4 bucks? I'm not so sure.

by Anonymousreply 49July 9, 2023 7:11 AM

For awhile he was competing with Eric Roberts and Stephen Dorff to see who could make the most shitty direct-to-video movies. Not sure why he went that route. Seems like he would have been a natural for a Netflix or HBO Max streaming series. I’m guessing difficult to work with.

by Anonymousreply 50July 9, 2023 7:34 AM

He's this weird straight dude Chicago archetype that's a bit Eugene Debs, a bit Nelson Algren.

by Anonymousreply 51July 9, 2023 7:39 AM

oh my. Apparently he is "touring" now. He is going to screenings for 40 year old movies he DIDN'T star in and then do a Q+A about what it's like being HIM. Go get your tickets if you want to see "Sixteen Candles" again!!

Here’s John Cusack: he’s everything as said in this thread and then some. The reason he’s done some good work as an actor is that he’s very intelligent. He makes choices as an actor that are brave and ballsy. Which is what his sister does too. So they clearly are intelligent in how they approach the craft of acting.

But John’s politics come across as shrill and maybe overly emotional. Definitely arrogant and know-it-all-ish. I usually find “black Irish” men sooooo sexy, but not him. I feel like he would be really weird sexually, like not in a good way. There would be cringey moments.

I tend to forgive him all this because he seems to usually deliver as an actor. His celebrity blood brother in his activism and using his platform is definitely Sean Penn, they are quite similar in their politics. I try to just focus on their acting because they are both so damn good at it. They are the top actors in their generation, though others are as talented, these two stand out to me.

John. Vibrant. Youthful.

R55 I do think you’re into it….when he was young, his acting had more vibrancy to it. As he’s aged, it’s become more melancholy. Like as life beat his ass up, he reflects that in his acting. He’s more cynical now, I believe.

by Anonymousreply 57July 9, 2023 8:02 AM

[quote] "I believe you, [R6], but I would be stunned if he were gay."

Agreed, R7.

by Anonymousreply 58July 9, 2023 8:16 AM

Rumor was he forced his ex-girlfriend to get an abortion.

Yes rumor has it he was an emotionally abusive boyfriend.

Joan Cusack once told Gabourey Sidibe that she should quit acting because of her looks and her body, she would never find work in Hollywood as an actress.

Ouch!

I always thought that was kind of cunty.

Even if it's true, it's not a nice thing to say to someone you don't even really know well.

He made a really crappy rom-com with Diane Lane. No chemistry with women and he is not cut out for those types of movies.

by Anonymousreply 61July 9, 2023 1:35 PM

[quote] No chemistry with women and he is not cut out for those types of movies.

He actually had chemistry with the character who played his ex-wife in the movie 2012. I think having two young kids in the movie helped to mellow him out.

I saw him on-screen for the first time in the movie "Grifters," and I think he really excels in playing quirky characters in noire-type movies.

by Anonymousreply 62July 9, 2023 1:41 PM

Deeper cut — I thought he was great in 1993’s Money For Nothing.

by Anonymousreply 63July 9, 2023 3:05 PM

Con Air is a guilty pleasure. And he’ll always be remembered for the iconic scene where he he’s holding the boombox in the rain.

by Anonymousreply 64July 9, 2023 3:47 PM

No. Very straight. Airhead.

by Anonymousreply 65July 9, 2023 4:11 PM

Better Off Dead was a classic 80's comedy.

by Anonymousreply 66July 9, 2023 4:26 PM

[R44] I found it! The bar was TJ's on Oak.

by Anonymousreply 67July 9, 2023 4:31 PM

Very political on twitter.

by Anonymousreply 68July 9, 2023 7:35 PM

Cusack is a druggie. He has no time for sex or love.

by Anonymousreply 69July 10, 2023 5:52 PM

he doesn’t come off as a loving sex partner.

by Anonymousreply 70July 10, 2023 7:24 PM

I gave him my heart… he gave me a pen.

by Anonymousreply 71July 10, 2023 7:42 PM

Cusack just tweeted about how horribly treated and underpaid his sister Joan was on SHAMELESS.

He doesn't call her or the show out by name, but it's quite easy to put it together.

Joan C was nominated 4 times (!) for Emmys and won once.

by Anonymousreply 72July 14, 2023 5:44 PM

PS: Emmy Rossum (who was marvelous on SHAMELESS) reportedly left the show over salary.

It sounds like no one except William Macy was making real money off SHAMELESS. Which is too bad, because it was an ensemble show.

by Anonymousreply 73July 14, 2023 5:46 PM

terrible show

by Anonymousreply 74July 14, 2023 6:00 PM

My favorite movie of his is Gross Pointe Blank.

Did John mention how horribly his sister Joan treated Gabourey Sidibe?

As to Travolta(?):in1973, I was in a relationship with a guy who was the primer hairdresser in Kansas City! One of his clients was a movie actress of moderate fame, and would do her hair whenever she was in town (summer theater)! He had gone to a convention of hairdressers in Vegas, and she was appearing in some show, there, at the same time. She asked him if he would be interested going to Palm Springs to a party thrown by that producer Allan C arr!. Of course he would! It was a pool party, with naked actors and, in some cases, their boyfriends! He (my S/O) was nothing to look at, except he was good looking as hell! He was very slim, no muscles, so why John T. was attracted to him, always puzzled me! In any event, he and John T. hooked up! When he came home, he told me all about it, including being flown back to KC, in his Jet! Also, they were to get together sometime soon, but it never happened! Since all of the above was his story, I have to accept it as the truth, because I knew him too well, not to believe him! SO THERE!

by Anonymousreply 78July 14, 2023 7:08 PM

he used the word “cunt” on twitter today.

by Anonymousreply 79July 15, 2023 7:49 PM

We use the word "cunt" on Datalounge EVERY day.

Maybe even every hour.

Perhaps he's a Datalounger too?

Do you smell burnt toast, r78?

by Anonymousreply 81July 15, 2023 9:21 PM

by Anonymousreply 83July 15, 2023 10:48 PM

R78 I enjoyed the story. You used an exclamation point for every sentence. You don't have to do that. It will be a more effective story using periods. But thank you for sharing it.

Never married in his 50s, just like David Muir.
