Do Air Purifiers Work?

Does DL have any thoughts? Recommendations? My allergies are insane this year.

I have the linked. I don't use it often, during the smoke from the fires, the short period of the year I have seasonal allergies etc. I find it works very well especially when I am sleeping.

I have bad seasonal allergies and allergic asthma and my purifier really helps. I have a BlueAir 311.

Wirecutter rates this one highest, and I just saw it's on sale for Prime Day. Thinking about upgrading.

We installed a SecureAire whole home system & what a game changer. Last year with all the fires, we didnt smell a thing indoors so we knew it was working @ doing what its supposed to do. We have also noticed there is less dust in the air & on surfaces. Absolutely love it & highly recommended. Only change the filter once a year.

I have a Honeywell in my living room and the best compliment I've received is that my place smells fresh! I have no idea what that encompasses but I do have a cat and houseplants so I assume it means there isn't any smell.

^^I do have to change filters every 6 months.

Yes, OP. Earlier this year I had horrendous allergies. Couldn't stand it any more. Walked to Home Depot, got an air purifier, came home, plugged it in. Within 30 minutes the sneezing stopped. Was really surprised by just how well it worked.

I bought a Mooka from Amazon. I could not believe the difference it made, so I bought two more: One in each bedroom and one in the family room. Best purchases I've made in years!

Gerry rig a box fan with a filter for an effective, less expensive air purifier.

Just saw that the Coway is on sale right now on Amazon.

Bought one during Covid when we were having dinner guests but ended up putting one in every room during the smoke situation. Definitely helps and I have an air quality monitor so I can see the improvement in real time.

I use one of these and it helps a lot.

I thought I was the only person that uses air purifiers. Mine are Austin. They do interfere with zoom calls due to the sound

I have two Dyson towers and they do help. Also, I smoke a fair amount of weed, the machines will automatically turn up to higher levels when they sense the smoke and clean the air right away. The weed smell is always gone in the morning.

In my early 20s I had serious sinus issues and it helped greatly

r16 Which brand air quality monitor?

by Anonymousreply 21July 10, 2023 3:40 AM

There’s a bunch of them on Amazon, R22 - all different price points. I have one that was about $120 when I bought it a year or so ago and one that was $40, and they always read the same more or less so I assume they are both pretty accurate. You can read in the reviews some of the much more sophisticated tests other purchasers did. :)

It has made it clear to me that the air purifiers are actually doing something quantifiable.
