Movie star looks are composed of conventionalized attributes (to appeal to some degree to a wide audience); average looking guys whom you notice appeal to your own personal tastes.

There's a lot to be said for approachability. Which is generally had by more everyday guys, than manufactured Hollywood idols.

We often think that average guys are attainable. While super hot guys with movie star looks are not. Therefore, average guys appeal to you more because at least you think you have a chance or at least the average guy may be interested. We tend to think that the hot wouldn't be interested. But sometimes, the hot guy is looking for someone, but he can't get anyone because he doesn't have the confidence or no one wants to approach him.

The "average" guys are generally above average in other areas while the "movie star" guys are below average in other areas. They're just a pretty face.
