Fag Usage On DL

For me, there's only one okay usage of the term--if it's used in the context of a submission/degradation fetish and actually helps people getting off.

My impression was that, within the community, it was mostly used by trans and genderqueer people in a bizarre mix of affirmation and alleged 'reclamation.' And they can go fuck themselves!

Then again, maybe I'm in a bubble and haven't met actual gay men yet who use it regularly.

When I was in high school in the 1970s, in gym we sometimes had to play flag football also known as fag football.

In the UK it's rarely used as a homophobic slur, but as a slang word for a cigarette. We don't really have a homophobic slur that's as serious as f*ggot.

R66 Yeah that's true. Some people use slurs but don't really mean them to insult all gay people, it's just a word they reach for in the moment.

When I came out, several of my male friends were very apologetic about slurs/gay jokes they'd uttered around me in the past. I wasn't bothered though because I knew they weren't homophobic, they just thought they were being funny and did what they thought was expected of them.
