Brandi Carlile is so overrated
She’s a talented writer and musician, but there are better out there, and her singing voice is creaky like an old screen door. What’s the hype about? The industry people all kiss her ass.
She also is the most stereotypical nutloaf baker, like she just checks every box, the little mansion-cabin in the woods, phony giggling while baking cakes and smearing icing on the kids’ noses, but ready to get livid at a moment’s notice about anything she finds even mildly offensive. Definitely seems like she knocks back the mezcal and Chardonnay and often.

R6 Carlile has received nine Grammy awards, from 25 nominations. She is the first female songwriter to receive two Grammy nominations for Song of the Year in the same year, and the first time that any songwriter or songwriting team was nominated for Song of the Year twice in the same year since 1994.
Those fucking industry people. You stupid fucking idiot.

Brandi is the best musician and we just love her so very much. She has the perfect tone, and pitch. Best singer in the world.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | July 3, 2023 9:45 PM

She has a beautiful voice. Technically pure, clear, perfect pitch. She is 5% cringe and 95% heroic in her worship of Joni. If you're going to worship a songwriter, why not Joni?
Her own songs are pretty uneven.... but some are outstanding.
She's an interesting "stylist"... I like to hear her cover good songs. Here she is (with a very intentional and succcessful vibrato) covering Bonnie Rait.

Of all the singers in today's to declare as overrated, Brandi Carlile is the last one to fit such a description. She is easily as talented as critics and fans alike say she is. As for her devotion to Joni, it's just more evidence she has great taste in music. Yes, she fawns over her at times, but that is because she's a true longtime fan.

Love Brandi. HBO debuted her concert special, "In the Canyon Haze - Live from Laurel Canyon" two days ago. Live on tape (it was originally broadcast live to IMAX theaters) in somebody's backyard, high up in the canyon as dusk settles over LA. It was great.

I would fawn over Joni, too.
Brandi’s voice doesn’t appeal to me. It’s technically good but something’s missing. There is no soul or humor in her voice. It makes all of her songs sound the same.

She’s an incredible songwriter. Written and performed some of my favourite songs over the last 15 years. Some people dislike her but they usually had early blunt force trauma to the head as a child. Very sad.

She might hit some notes here and there, but her voice is ugly. There is no soul, because she tries to affect a moodiness. Anyone who thinks her voice has technical proficiency should retake their music classes.

I’ve seen her in concert a few times. She’s really a good performer. I didn’t know any of her songs the first time and she won me over. Always seems like she’s having a great time in stage.
Not sure what all the DL hate for her is about. She’s very talented and seems like a good person.

My dad has been a musician for most of his life and he absolutely loves her, enough that he dragged himself out of the house once (a rare occurrence) to see her live. She has certainly gotten a lot more famous in the last 5-10 years. From the late 2000s through most of the 2010s, the only thing she was really known for (at least to my knowledge) was that song "The Story", which got massive airplay, though I always (perhaps incorrectly) was under the assumption that she was a one-hit wonder.
She has really managed to climb the ranks in the last few years. I saw that she was featured on Miley Cyrus's New Year's Eve TV special which was a real "WTF moment"—I had to do a double-take. She also recently performed with Joni Mitchell, which is a huge deal.

She loves music and definitely enjoys performing, but there is a soulless nature to her stuff, especially her later output. She’s definitely been changed by the fame and she’s a mega name dropper with a starfucker attitude. She just comes across as inauthentic, the glitz of fame doesn’t wear well on her, like it does say an Elton John.

As everyone else has said she lacks soul. She trieds to affect it but doesn't work, her voice is bland and she looks silly

She has that jittery, insecure lesbian who tries to feign confidence vibe. She doesn’t have swagger like KD Lang or Melissa Etheridge.

I saw her in concert once years ago. Her voice was fine, she seemed nice enough, and the songs were pleasant. Her banter between songs, however, was grating as all hell. Nonstop mommy chatter about all the “hilarious” things her kids say and do.
I can see why women with children enjoy her. After that concert, I’d had sufficient.
