Alan Arkin's Twisted Villain in "Wait Until Dark!" 1967

Alan Arkin was a memorable villain as Harry Roat in 1967's "Wait Until Dark." Arkin's funny, sexy, and oh yeah, a sociopath & killer. Audrey Hepburn is sweet Susy Hendrix, a blind woman who's received a drug-filled dol,l and Arkin wants his dolly back! This Hitchcock-like thriller is by the writer of "Dial M For Murder." My look at "Dark" here...

Here's an interview with Arkin by Bob Costas, discussing his early films like "Russians!" and "Dark."

The pastor of our church showed this film to us one year at our annual end-of-school "lockdown." He found the room's reaction to the "jump" scene rather hilarious.

I liked the HBO version with Katherine Ross and Stacy Keach.

I remember seeing "Wait Until Dark" in its original theatrical run when I was in high school. The theaters amped up the tension by turning out ALL the lights in the theater during the scariest scene. Almost 60 years later, I still have vivid memories of it.

I remember reading that theaters would dim all the theater lights during the big fright scene... could you imagine that happening today? And I would have loved to seen Duvall and Remick on stage in this play...
