Why are so many bodybuilders dying young?

Isn't it strange to see how so many of them are dropping dead from heart attacks, strokes, cancer and liver/kidney failure long before even turning 50?

I have no idea why this is happening!

by Anonymousreply 1July 1, 2023 3:45 PM

It's because they're so healthy and keep their bodies free from any artificial enhancements, Rose.

by Anonymousreply 2July 1, 2023 4:02 PM

🤔

by Anonymousreply 3July 1, 2023 4:05 PM

Heart and vascular damage from the enhancements

by Anonymousreply 4July 1, 2023 4:05 PM

They have body dysmorphia and eating disorders. They are seriously neurotic and kill themselves slowly trying to get an image of perfection they'll never obtain. I think it's taken less seriously because vanity and neurosis is seen as a "feminine" thing. Bodybuilding contests are basically beauty pageants for young men

Another red flag.

Aesthetics suck.

by Anonymousreply 7July 1, 2023 5:11 PM

Can’t imagine.

by Anonymousreply 8July 1, 2023 5:15 PM

There's a reason bodybuilding is not considered a sport by the IOC.

Stealth instawhore thread.

It’s not just steroids although that’s a major part of it. A lot had to do with the ravaging of their kidneys from all the supplements and powders and pills they take. And that dude looked wicked old for 30.

by Anonymousreply 11July 1, 2023 5:33 PM

I saw this in the news and was confused because it looks like 2 totally different people. There was definitely some heavy substance abuse going on.

Bodybuilding supplements will take a toll. Everyone has different physiology so there is no way of knowing if the dietary intake, steroids and creatine that make one guy a muscle god will kill you.

by Anonymousreply 13July 1, 2023 5:41 PM

His body was ravaged for just 30 years old.

by Anonymousreply 14July 1, 2023 5:43 PM

As a 30something. This is a big issue in my generation. So many guys grow up looking at photoshopped Men's Health magazines and CGI muscles in Marvel movies and now social media like Instagram and TikTok made it much worse. A lot of bodybuilders are manosphere/incel-adjacents who were ugly, fat and socially inept when they were younger and got bullied. So they invest in bodybuilding as a power fantasy and think it will get them popularity with the ladies. They follow social media of bodybuilders who shill crappy products to them. They end up trying to look like a fantasy and end up looking like freaks. Also their awful social skills still turn off women. It's a serious epidemic.

Evolution weighing in on the towel dance thing.

Obsessing about the exterior while damaging the interior, the same as young women with eating disorders who abuse drugs to stay thin.

by Anonymousreply 17July 1, 2023 6:45 PM

Here's an interesting point of view.

COVID weakened their heart

Give me an average body ( with a beer belly) anytime!

by Anonymousreply 20July 1, 2023 7:02 PM

They're dying young because they want you to remember them at their peak. It's all planned.

by Anonymousreply 21July 1, 2023 9:22 PM

The Washington Post has been running an intermittent series on the bodybuilding industry and how corrupt it is. If you refuse to do steroids, you're pushed aside. The trainers push an incredible array of pharmaceutical drugs on competitors without any clue about interactions, tolerance levels, etc. The amazing thing is that more people don't die.

R5 You do realize beauty pageant contestants are not dying and most don’t have eating disorders. It is way for many women to escape their socioeconomic backgrounds and propel to university and success attaining scholarships and mentorship’s.

Only if you've got your head completely up your ass. Everyone with half a brain knows that they pump themselves with drugs that take an awful toll on their organs.

by Anonymousreply 24July 2, 2023 2:00 AM

An astonishing number of them die from heart failure by their 40's.

HGH enlarges your heart, which severely limits its ability to property work.

Global warming!

by Anonymousreply 26July 2, 2023 2:04 AM

R23 The premise of it is similar and centered around extremely gendered standards of beauty that can lead to disordered eating and unhealthy expectations. Nowhere did I say beauty queens were dying like bodybuilders. And you're clearly talking about adult beauty pageants, not child ones.

by Anonymousreply 27July 2, 2023 2:26 AM

They overdo it and their bodies say fuck no!

by Anonymousreply 28July 2, 2023 2:50 AM

All pro bodybuilders suffer from body dysmorphic syndrome.

by Anonymousreply 29July 2, 2023 2:52 AM

FORRRR-EVVERRRR YOUNG!!!!

by Anonymousreply 30July 2, 2023 2:53 AM

Steroids aside, I am guessing a lot of this is heart-related. I was born with a congenital heart condition that had to be corrected with open-heart surgery, but I didn't have the surgery until I was in my late-twenties. Growing up, I was forbidden by my cardiologist from doing any sort of weight lifting or body building (not that I wanted to) because the stress from it could have worsened my aortic valve and potentially triggered an aortic dissection (I had a slow-growing aneurysm in my aortic root, caused by my bad valve). Bodybuilding in general is very hard on your cardiovascular system, and anyone with a latent heart problem is putting themselves in danger.

R15 Absolutely. I’m a photographer and bodybuilders / muscular men are the most difficult to get to shoot because they are so intimidated.

I thought it would be easy getting them to do shoots and you would think because of social media they’re everywhere but it’s an incredibly small pool of guys out of millions who are willing to shoot.

I always make the joke they were fat children and it’s actually pretty accurate from my experience.
