Body found and identified, apparently. Sad!
Aww. Well now, we here at DL can go on.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | June 27, 2023 8:52 PM |
It is sad. But people who hike and climb during bad weather are tempting fate. And then the taxpayers have to foot the bill for rescue attempts that are doomed to fail.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | June 27, 2023 8:59 PM |
It was sad when he died. Who's next?

by Anonymous | reply 7 | June 27, 2023 9:31 PM |
The conditions were already dicey, the forecast was a beast of a storm, yet this experienced climber went out alone. He hadn't been looking well for some time. I do wonder if this is how he decided he wanted to die. Out in nature in the mountains that he loved (MARY!) From what I've read, the cold gets you pretty quickly and (relatively) painlessly. From "Fuck, it's cold." to "I'm feeling so sleepy, I'll just sit down for a bit." to a thread on Datalounge. Multiple threads if you were cute when you were young.

It seems he pulled a Spaulding Gray to me.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | June 27, 2023 9:41 PM |
I only saw him in that movie where he was an evil genie. Was it Wishmaster?
by Anonymous | reply 10 | June 27, 2023 9:41 PM |
I'm guessing hypothermia as cause of death. Perhaps due to injury, illness or he didn't have proper gear for the conditions.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | June 27, 2023 9:42 PM |
Even if he were half his age, it would have been reckless to go hiking on Mt Baldy in that weather.
The real cause of death is stupidity.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | June 27, 2023 9:47 PM |
Will people question the cost of searching for people who go missing like this, similar to how the recent Titanic sub disaster's recovery effort and cost is? After all, this was probably a risky hike to take, given the weather and terrain.

by Anonymous | reply 18 | June 27, 2023 9:55 PM |
when he 1st disappeared one of the psychics said he was still alive but they needed to find him quickly. A few days later she said he was still alive but disoriented. She never said anything about him after that so I knew he had died but sadly it seems it was about a week or so after he went missing..
by Anonymous | reply 19 | June 27, 2023 9:57 PM |
R13 As tacky as it may sound, search and rescue/recovery) teams need practice, and though the outcome is often sad or horrifying, it keeps the skills of those teams sharp for successful operations.

r15 I think I saw nearly every movie that was released in 1987 including Siesta. He was sexy in it, yes. I do recall Jodie Foster being particularly lesbionic in it (during her pre SOFL slump).

R33 plus Jodie brought him to the Oscars in 1989 when she won. I wonder if they stayed friends? Tragic death, but he should’ve known better than to tempt fate with that stupid hiking under the worst conditions. At least his family has closure now.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | June 27, 2023 10:42 PM |
Give the search and rescue teams credit for tenacity, they have been up there searching for Julian Sands for months, weather permitting.

From Wikipedia: Basinger's financial difficulties were exacerbated when she pulled out of the controversial film Boxing Helena (1993), resulting in the studio winning an $8.9 million judgment against her.[69] Basinger filed for bankruptcy[70] and appealed the jury's decision to a higher court, which ruled in her favor. She and the studio settled for $3.8 million instead.

Since he disappeared during cold and snowy weather with multiple storms over the days they might have been looking, I wonder if his body was frozen solid.
That might make getting cause of death easier.
Also any broken bones.
And the location of the body - was it found in a spot that indicates he fell from higher up? Or on a path trying to make his way out?
Doubt they will release the exact location of the remains to prevent the sicko celebrity obsessed from visiting the site.

Thoele and a mountaineering partner were ascending the 13,589-foot peak — a jagged, rocky slope wedged between Tulare and Inyo counties in the eastern Sierra — on Sunday when the partner decided to wait in place due to difficult climbing conditions. Thoele continued up the mountain.
When Thoele did not return, his friend began searching for him and eventually found that he had fallen over ice and rock. The friend was unable to reach him, but believed he did not survive given the distance and terrain where he fell. The friend descended to a location where he could get cell reception and called 911, Inyo County Search & Rescue said.
