The conditions were already dicey, the forecast was a beast of a storm, yet this experienced climber went out alone. He hadn't been looking well for some time. I do wonder if this is how he decided he wanted to die. Out in nature in the mountains that he loved (MARY!) From what I've read, the cold gets you pretty quickly and (relatively) painlessly. I'm guessing hypothermia as cause of death. Perhaps due to injury, illness or he didn't have proper gear for the conditions.

Even if he were half his age, it would have been reckless to go hiking on Mt Baldy in that weather.

The real cause of death is stupidity.

Will people question the cost of searching for people who go missing like this, similar to how the recent Titanic sub disaster's recovery effort and cost is? After all, this was probably a risky hike to take, given the weather and terrain.
