Can we discuss this one again? I watched it yesterday for the first time since it came out in 2000. I expected it to have lost its impact after 23 years but it was still quite effective as a nightmarish horror film. I haven't seen Orange is the New Black in a while, but I was surprised how much Yale Stone (Lorna) seemed to have copied Ellen Burstyn's performance! And why did they color Jared Leto's hair such a fake black color? Jennifer Connelly was at her peak beauty in this, but also was quite believable in her role (as opposed to Elisabeth Shue in Leaving Las Vegas). What does the DL think?

I don't think I could stand watching it again. Truly horrifying. The score is also quite effective in getting into your psyche. Brilliant.

I am not in a position to say but does anyone care to weight in on the accuracy of Burstyn and Leto's accents?

Ellen Bunrstyn deserved the Oscar for this amazing performance but cunt face Julia Roberts bought off the Oscar voters to get it for Erik Brockovich (anyone could’ve played the role, just wear a push up bra) .

One of my all-time favorite movies. I actually saw it in a movie theater (those were the days!) and I remember coming out of the theater shell-shocked and blinking in the sunlight, saying out loud, "What the fuck just happened?"
And I love love love Jennifer Connelly.

This movie bothered me then and I can't watch it now. It's so disgustingly real. Awful.

I watched it for the first time a few weeks ago (I'm in my twenties) and felt ill during that bit with the dildo.

I remember first seeing Jennifer Connelly (and Target) in the movie Career Opportunities - she made wonder if maybe I was bi.

I can't think of any movie that had such an impact on me like Requiem for a Dream. Everything about it is utterly depressing. But what a fantastic film.

Keith David is amazingly perverted in this. I think the saddest part was when Ellen Burstyn's two friends visit her after she has had the ECT and is just a zombie...they both burst into tears and embrace each other outside the mental hospital. It is a horrendous film about addiction and unlike other treatments like Trainspotting has zero comic relief. It's just unremittingly bleak.
