OP. my entourage is heading to DC soon, and I am renting the LA River establishment as an airbnb.

I know the awards show is airing in December but we're hitching, and it takes a while sometimes for an appropriate limo to pass by and pick me up. It's first class only for this legendary awardee!!!

And it's about fucking time. Being see-lected alongside that Latifah? No comment. Just don't stand me next to her because that girl sweats garlic sauce.

There must be a reason Liza hasn't been honored. No way it's just an oversight at this point.

What's the criteria for being selected? Some of the chosen honorees throughout the years were quite unexpected.

But what possible reason would there be for intentionally snubbing Liza? Was she The Badge Man? Perhaps that wasn't a shiny badge, but the sequins off her blouse reflecting in Mary Moorman's photograph??

Anyone in the arts can be nominated but it's my understanding that a large part of the selection process is decided by board members with their own agendas. If someone has a particular favorite they can campaign and get pretty much anyone they want on the short list.

R11 - you know what's interesting about that? For several years Chita Rivera was on whatever the selection committee for the Kennedy Center Honors is called. Guess she wasn't that into Liza.

Viola and Audra should absolutely get it but not before the end of the decade. 60 is roughly the age to start contemplating awarding a lifetime achievement award like the KCH to someone.

But absolutely, the rest of that theater list is justified.

The producers have all but ruined what used to be an amazing show, so I don't know if there's also a push for awards for a more pop culture group of honorees, as well.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think there have been many honorees over the years known primarily for their work in television. It seems to be mostly the performing arts + film stars who make the cut. And, rightly or wrongly, television really hasn't been considered central to the culture until the last couple of decades with the emergence of cable and streaming prestige TV. I guess that would explain Betty and Mary's absence.

The window has closed because the Kennedy Center waited too long. Attendance is required, and Liza simply isn't well enough to travel to D.C. and take part in the events. We have this discussion every year in these Kennedy Center Honors threads. Now we'll hear from the queens who say that an exception should be made, it wouldn't be that difficult for Liza to get to Washington etc. etc. Forget it. Exceptions aren't made.

Odd, isn't it, that Liza didn't take part in the recent Tony Awards salute to John Kander, given how important he was to her career? Same reason. She's simply not well enough to travel. Sad last days, I'm afraid.

I've been informed I will be a late addition. My heart is full.

I've heard that Liza was offered the honor a couple of years ago but declined it because she didn't want to travel to D.C. It's certainly a more believable explanation than the Kennedy Center ignoring her year after year.

Liza is looking much better than she did at the Oscars. They can wheel her in and prop her up. She's a show pony, she'll be fine.
