Temu is fucking ghetto and they use customs brokers to bring all their shit in from China.
Amazon is far more reliable.
Wish is ghetto, everything is from China.
Aliexpress is ghetto everything is from China and Singapore or Thailand
Ebay isn't horrible. But out of all of them Amazon is the best for new products.
Ebay and Amazon have real cx service/support. The others don't

by Anonymous | reply 30 | June 19, 2023 12:43 AM |
It's cheap Chinese manufactured crap, but for instances where that will do it works great. Furniture and electronics I buy off Amazon or from a brick-and-mortar store; foam interior doormats and fake flowers I can risk getting an inferior version of if it only costs me a few bucks.
That said, two items I've bought have really impressed me with their function: a black pebble bath mat that grips the tub securely, and a pet hair roller that's made of plastic probably no sturdier than fast food utensils but cleans area rugs as if by magic.

I noticed my SO's phone dragging. They had loaded the Temu app. I uninstalled and the phone picked up. I went ahead and reset the phone because you never know how intrusive those apps can be.
As for the quality of their goods, I have no idea. I used to work for a place that got all their shit from China. The older stuff in the warehouse was a much higher quality than the more recent imports. As the standard of living has improved, the quality of cheap goods has declined.
It is not surprising.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | June 19, 2023 2:39 AM |
Amazon is just for new stuff. Also, Amazon doesn't ship to a lot of countries. And if it does, a lot of the time shipping cost twice as much as the actual item. Those other three sites are just Chinese junk. Ebay is the best. Anyone can sell on eBay, you don't need to be a certified store. So you can find the most stuff there. All the junk you can find on Temu, Wish and AliExpress, you can also find on eBay. The same Chinese sellers sell on all these sites. But on eBay you can find a bunch of second hand stuff that you can't find anywhere else on the internet.

eBay SUCKS since Trump. I used to buy medication you canāt get here in US, like extra strength (2%) Voltaren gel. Donāt tell me itās available and OTC in US - only 1% Voltaren is available OTC here.

Also bought Emla, an excellent topical anesthetic with lidocaine and prilocaine in it.
Trump administration banned all of it from eBay. You can only buy what you can get otc in US on eBay. And useless foreign herbal crap.

I won't order from any vendor that requires me to download their app to do so. I'm probably not as diligent about internet security as I should be, but I'm not entirely lax either. There is no fucking reason to require an app to place an order -- account details? fine; offer an app if it comes with come real some convenience or benefit to the customer? fine; but allow purchases only after downloading an app? Fuck no.
China's record on internet security and its record of allying with businesses and business fronts to harvest personal and financial information is not at all encouraging.
I don't buy a lot of plastic and synthetic goods, cheap tools, cheap metal products, cheap kitchen items, and short-lived household goods from any source. Sometimes these thing inevitably come from China, but I won't buy anything at all directly from China. They misrepresent customs rules, shipping dates, forget careful packaging, and forget bothering to send anything back -- even if half the time they send something only vaguely similar to the product (mis-)represented.
Carry n and fill your houses with plastic shower curtains and plastic this and plastic that, and shirts that cost $4.14 each, cat litter boxes for a fraction of the cost of ones bougfht in stores, or luxury brands for pennies on the dollar, up to the rafters in cheap shit at bargain prices. I don't need tawdry shit and bad knock-offs and products deceitfully represented, let alone a storeroom filled of them. The vendors lie from start to finish and, worse, their prices are artificially low in order to clog your mobiles with malware to harvest your financial data.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | August 28, 2023 9:45 PM |

My Temu purchases have tended to 7-10 business days, about what I'd expect for free ground shipping. I think orders are fulfilled from stateside warehouses, not shipped directly from overseas.

I had never heard of Temu before reading this thread. So I looked for a review from a reputable website. The best I could find was a review from ZDNet. The review is rather restraint and doesn't advise directly to stay away from Temu. It has some good information though about the affiliation to China, trusting with use of data etc.
Personally, I don't find the site very compelling. I wouldn't buy expensive things there. And I usually don't purchase cheap 3-dollar tchotchkes. So this isn't for me.

[quote]The Biden administration has proposed rules that could make it more costly for Chinese e-commerce platforms like Shein and Temu to ship goods into the US. In his announcement proposing to crack down on "unsafe, unfairly traded products," President Joe Biden accused China-founded e-commerce platforms selling cheap goods of abusing the "de minimis exemption" that makes shipments valued under $800 duty-free.
[quote]Allowing this alleged abuse to continue would not just hurt US businesses like H&M and Zara that increasingly struggle to compete with platforms like Shein and Temu, Biden alleged. It would also allegedly make it "more challenging to enforce US trade laws, health and safety requirements, intellectual property rights, consumer protection rules, and to block illicit synthetic drugs such as fentanyl and synthetic drug raw materials and machinery from entering the country."
