"No Hard Feelings" starring Jennifer Lawrence

I'm surprised this hasn't been banned yet for being "groomer" propaganda. If they reversed the genders, it never would have even gotten made. But really, the movie is dated and just isn't that funny.

Looks dreadful.

by Anonymousreply 2June 18, 2023 2:47 PM

I guess you're supposed to commend an A-list actress going full-frontal in a hacky comedy.

by Anonymousreply 3June 19, 2023 1:19 PM

[quote]If they reversed the genders, it never would have even gotten made.

But they didn't. That's some prime frau CUNT logic there.

by Anonymousreply 4June 19, 2023 1:40 PM

Deuce Bigelow streams very often for free. If it is not the most idiotic film ever made, it's close. Raunchy and politically incorrect. One of the characters goes on an extended riff about Asian sex workers that would never be done today. I watch this film every time I come across it and laugh as if I hadn't seen it before. Raunchy, stupid and politically incorrect ? Ok? But it has to be funny.

by Anonymousreply 5June 19, 2023 3:55 PM

I saw the trailer in the movie theatre and the actors audience laughed the whole time, me included. So tired of everyone being sensitive little prisspots.

by Anonymousreply 6June 19, 2023 4:09 PM

The “kid” character is 19

by Anonymousreply 7June 19, 2023 4:32 PM

The actors audience?

by Anonymousreply 8June 19, 2023 4:35 PM

Some on AwardsWorthy are really trying it with this movie. Replace JLaw with Amy Schumer and they'd be singing a much different tune.

by Anonymousreply 9June 20, 2023 2:48 PM

I'm sure Twitter will be shrieking about it in no time. Twitter girls love getting brownie points by saying things like " women totes groom men too y'all. This is SO not ok".

But in all honesty I doubt the characters will have sex. It will be basically a buddy comedy if I had to guess.

by Anonymousreply 10June 20, 2023 3:01 PM

Hollywood Reporter: "Jennifer Lawrence Shines in Sweet and Saucy Summer Comedy"

Variety: "There’s been some moralistic pearl-clutching over the trailer, though probably for the very same reason that the movie could connect: It looks a little pervy. Yet when you see “No Hard Feelings,” you realize that the film’s promise of risky business is little more than a big tease."

Deadline: "The film is funny, gross, ballsy, lame, daring and uncertain, more or less in equal measure. The leading lady is all of the above, definitely all in and yet always ingratiating; everyone involved was no doubt game for the wild stuff the filmmakers were attempting, but Lawrence, more than anyone else either in front of or behind the camera, knew how to measure and apportion the ingredients in a funny way."

by Anonymousreply 11June 22, 2023 4:53 PM

I had thought the cute young man was showing his kibble and bits, but it’s Jennifer Lawrence with the full frontal nudity. Pass!

by Anonymousreply 12June 22, 2023 4:55 PM

Well, no surprise. She went to Whore School in Red Sparrow. Graduated early.

by Anonymousreply 13June 22, 2023 5:02 PM

Depending on who you ask, this is either a feminist or conservative movie. I think some of the writing is reductive. Most movies want to have their cake and eat too.

by Anonymousreply 14June 22, 2023 10:30 PM

Has anyone seen this?

by Anonymousreply 15June 23, 2023 11:55 PM

This is a huge break for that young actor. He went from being a replacement Evan Hansen on Broadway to co-starring in a major film with Jennifer Lawrence. He seems like a sweet kid, so good for him.

Weinstein’s feelings were hard for her. Or something of his was.

by Anonymousreply 18June 24, 2023 6:29 PM

They are expecting it to open at $15M on a $45M budget.

by Anonymousreply 19June 24, 2023 6:34 PM

R19 Oh, dear! That math isn’t pretty.

by Anonymousreply 20June 24, 2023 6:39 PM

They would have made more money if they had only shown dong.

by Anonymousreply 21June 24, 2023 7:33 PM

OP you are dumb as fuck. No teenage girl has a problem getting laid if she wants to and her parents certainly wouldn’t help her pop that cherry.

by Anonymousreply 22June 24, 2023 7:39 PM

I want to see this film because it’s seems like an 80s film with 21st century sensibilities.

by Anonymousreply 23June 24, 2023 7:42 PM

No one from Datalounge has seen it?

by Anonymousreply 24June 25, 2023 3:57 AM

They must have spent $30 million promoting it. Another flop for Jennifer. She’s no Pretty Woman.

by Anonymousreply 25June 25, 2023 5:59 PM

[Quote] I guess you're supposed to commend an A-list actress going full-frontal in a hacky comedy.

If Jennifer Lawrence were A-list would she be doing this 'hacky comedy'?

by Anonymousreply 26June 25, 2023 6:07 PM

It’s incredible to me that she went quickly from being such a huge star to being a middle range star. She’s only 32 but may as well be 42.

by Anonymousreply 27June 25, 2023 6:14 PM

No Hard Feelings did $4.8M, -26% against Friday/Thursday previews. Very good start here for the Jennifer Lawrence comedy, especially in this marketplace. In its older young woman tending to an even younger kid, it did look creepy — but not as creepy as 1981’s Private Lessons (remember that film?). It works because audiences are clearly getting the joke and the hijinks.

by Anonymousreply 28June 25, 2023 6:14 PM

I just saw it today R24.

I wills say a few things.

I don't remember who it was, but some actor commented that you can't do comedy anymore, because everyone is hypersensitive, and I tend to agree. Just because something is offensive doesn't mean it can't be funny. This "outrage" over being offended has more or less killed the raunchy comedy.

Movies like Animal House, Airplane!, Blazing Saddles, Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, American Pie, etc. would almost certainly not be made today.

I think it is a shame because they can be funny.

This particular movie, is no comedic masterpiece, but I chuckled multiple times. Lawrence is a surprisingly good comedic actress (has she done a comedy before?). She needs to lean into it, because her dramatic performances are hit or miss (mostly miss).

I would highly recommend watching it. I don't know if I would high recommend going to the theater to see it if you don't like going to the moves in general (I do and will see basically whatever).

by Anonymousreply 29June 25, 2023 6:15 PM

Deadline is giving it the usual positive spin. Variety noted that the box office doesn’t match the $45M budget before prints and advertising.

by Anonymousreply 30June 25, 2023 6:17 PM

They spent a TON on promoting this movie. Jennifer even did the hot wings challenge, which shows how desperate she is. I don’t think it will gross $50M.

by Anonymousreply 31June 25, 2023 6:20 PM

[quote]Jennifer even did the hot wings challenge, which shows how desperate she is.

Would you say the same about

Julia Louis-Dreyfus

Jason Sudeikis

Jake Gyllenhaal

Pedro Pascal

Lenny Kravitz

Kate Hudson

Cate Blanchett

I mean this was just in the past 8 months. It is an incredibly popular Youtube channel. Being on it is not a sign of "desperation".

by Anonymousreply 32June 25, 2023 6:25 PM

Yes.

by Anonymousreply 33June 25, 2023 6:26 PM

Female full-frontal nudity is now merely "sweet and saucy"? (Hollywood Reporter)

Wow.

by Anonymousreply 34June 25, 2023 6:27 PM

R29, may I have your email to write you a personal thank you?

by Anonymousreply 35June 25, 2023 6:27 PM

R29, I think you are so far off the mark as not to be in the same hemisphere as reality.

ALL the movies you mentioned would not only be made today; they would be even more prurient!

That unknown actor might have been more likely speaking of racial jokes and the like, not raunch.

by Anonymousreply 36June 25, 2023 6:34 PM

She tried. For her, it’s a step down to do this kind of film with full frontal nudity but maybe it’s the best part she can get.

by Anonymousreply 37June 25, 2023 6:41 PM

This would be a smash if Chrissy Metz was the one who did full frontal.

by Anonymousreply 38June 25, 2023 6:43 PM

In spite of what you want to believe, zero films have actually been banned

People complaining about a film doesn't mean it's banned

by Anonymousreply 39June 25, 2023 6:44 PM

R4, we're in a time where everyone wants equality. It's a fair point to note that this wouldn't work with the roles reversed.

Or if they'd work with a late 20something gay guy and a 19 year old gay 'kid.' Or two women.

by Anonymousreply 40June 25, 2023 6:45 PM

Stop with the groomer shit. It’s just as despicable when used as a false narrative to attack straight people as it is when it’s used against gay men, and sometimes lesbians, to justify irrational hatred, harassment and violent acts committed against people who are the least likely to want to diddle kids. It’s a fucking movie about a guy of legal age getting laid for the first time. Not the first and won’t be the last.

by Anonymousreply 41June 25, 2023 6:46 PM

OP, what is the movie about? You're supposed to describe it. This is a shitty thread

by Anonymousreply 42June 25, 2023 6:46 PM

The genders wouldn't be reversed because no one is paying guys to "deflower" their daughters. Virginity is prized more in women than men, guys used to take their sons to brothels so they'd lose their virginity. This wouldn't work with two women either, no one is paying women to deflower their lesbian daughters

by Anonymousreply 43June 25, 2023 6:47 PM

People like r29 who accuse others of being "hypersensitive" are hilarious. They're usually the first ones to complain about "woke" beer cans or whatever

by Anonymousreply 44June 25, 2023 6:49 PM

If the genders were reversed, it would be creepy. Chris Evans taking a female teenager’s virginity for a car would cause an outrage. But because it’s Jennifer Lawrence - already a professional escort - no one cares.

The movie was just okay - the funniest bits are all in the trailer. I didn't hate it but wouldn't recommend it either.

by Anonymousreply 65June 27, 2023 10:33 AM

I don't think he needs any of those. He has all of the Broadway community and the Harvard gays ( which are abundant) to choose from. He did a virtual song to benefit a fund to honor his late mother and you can see the his contemporaries who joined in. BTW, the terrible singer ( third one) is Grammy winner Olivia Roderigo:

Soloists (in order of appearance): Andrew Barth Feldman (Dear Evan Hansen, HSMTMTS, Ratatouille) . Natalie Weiss (Emojiland, Breaking Down the Riffs). Olivia Rodrigo ("drivers license," HSMTMTS). Micaela Diamond (The Cher Show). Jason Gotay (Bring It On, Gossip Girl, Peter Pan Live). Antonio Cipriano (Jagged Little Pill). Reneé Rapp (Mean Girls, The Sex Lives of College Girls). Taylor Trensch (Dear Evan Hansen, To Kill a Mockingbird, Matilda). Ben Levi Ross (Dear Evan Hansen, Next to Normal). Lisa Brescia (Dear Evan Hansen, Wicked, Aida). Gaten Matarazzo (Stranger Things). Samantha Williams (Caroline, or Change, Dear Evan Hansen). Sydney Lucas (Fun Home). Drew Gehling (Waitress, Jersey Boys, Almost Famous). Lesli Margherita (Matilda, Emojiland, Zorro). Jennifer Lawrence’s raunchy R-rated comedy “No Hard Feelings” landed in fourth place in Week 2 with $7.5 million from 3,208 theaters, a 52% decline from its debut. The Sony Pictures movie, which cost $45 million, has grossed $29 million in North America and $20 million at the international box office.

by Anonymousreply 85July 2, 2023 7:14 PM

by Anonymousreply 86July 2, 2023 7:18 PM

by Anonymousreply 89July 2, 2023 8:11 PM

I never was really crazy about Julia, but her films often grossed around $100 million so her $20 million salary seemed fair. But Jennifer getting $20 million seems like a waste of money. I wonder how long that will continue.

by Anonymousreply 93July 3, 2023 4:24 AM

I saw it last night and it was entertaining enough. My friend and I laughed quite a few times and - knowing nothing about the young lead prior to the movie - I thought he was a very good vocalist in the part of the movie where he sings "Maneater." At least, it really seemed like it was him singing, not him lip syncing someone else's vocals.

I agree with the poster upthread who said that her full frontal nudity seemed AI-generated. I (unfortunately) had to sit in the 2nd row, and when that scene was rolling, there was something very fake and clunky about the whole thing - her midsection seemed to be depixelating or something along those lines. It was very strange.

I was surprised, because i'm NOT a Jennifer Lawrence fat at all and really expected this to be stupid and to be counting the seconds until it was over. Both my friend and I - dare I say it - enjoyed ourselves.

Also it was hot as Satan's asscrack yesterday, so sitting in a cooled theater for the better part of 2 hours was an added bonus of course.

He was in Rattatouille the Tik Tok musical, his best work. I was at Jimmys when he won. I didn’t get it. Didn’t seem special to me. The movie is fun and the sexes would never be switched because that would never happen in real life.

by Anonymousreply 101July 4, 2023 4:41 PM

This is terrible. Far worse than I imagined. So charmless.

by Anonymousreply 102August 12, 2023 10:12 PM

Watch for JLaw to JUMP at the next offer for something high-profile on streaming, even if it's an ensemble role. I'm thinking the next season of WHITE LOTUS or something like that. Anything to restore some credibility/visibility. (I thought she wasn't bad in DON'T LOOK UP, but that appeared to do nothing for her career, really.)

Her A-list days are well behind her at this point. She's got a few big-screen projects in development (like a remake of EAST OF EDEN that no one asked for) but they all sound pretty dismal.

by Anonymousreply 103August 12, 2023 10:30 PM

R99: Who cares if it’s a butt double or not. He is nothing to look at.

by Anonymousreply 104August 12, 2023 10:36 PM

I can’t believe how unfunny she is in this.

by Anonymousreply 105August 12, 2023 11:57 PM

Red Sparrow is streaming on Tubi. That film was the beginning of the end of her A list status. Ridiculous.

by Anonymousreply 106August 13, 2023 11:59 PM

It's interesting to go back and view SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK and AMERICAN HUSTLE, two of her acclaimed performances. Or the HUNGER GAMES franchise.

She's not all that great, frankly. She lacks technique and training as an actor, but compensates in energy and charm, so it mostly works. But she really was more of a movie star than an actor, right out of the gate.

by Anonymousreply 107August 14, 2023 2:10 AM

Even Emma Stone has outlasted her as a critical favourite. I couldn’t imagine Jennifer Lawrence in The Favourite.

by Anonymousreply 108August 14, 2023 8:27 AM

It’s on Netflix and I’m watching it right now. Honestly, this movie proves why Jennifer Lawrence deserves to be a star. She elevates the material — even if it’s good to begin with.

by Anonymousreply 109October 25, 2023 4:34 AM

R109 she elevated nothing. The movie was terrible and she’s a terrible actress at times.

by Anonymousreply 110October 25, 2023 4:36 AM

by Anonymousreply 111October 25, 2023 4:36 AM
