I had a friend who went off his meds. Ended up living on the streets. Bright, cute, fun guy and he just wouldn’t get help. I tried and gave him money, offered shelter but mental illness is a bitch. He was hit and killed by a transit vehicle in San Jose about a month ago.

I hope this young woman finds and accepts help.

The press needs to stop covering tragic stories about this poor woman. She's not an actor anymore. She is so seriously ill and people get off on making fun of her. It's soul depleting to witness.

I've contemplated starting a website that basically is just a group of people that stalk regular, every day, individuals, finds out their identity, and then posts pictures about them accompanied by stories of their mundane activities.

Imagine if we lived in a world where every last one of us could end up on this particular site with stories about our latest struggles. There's just something so gross about doing this to people when they're having mental health issues; public figures or not.

I think Amanda is in a worse condition than Britney. Britney is just dumb and spoiled and acts like a child and most of her problems are caused by her lack of accountability due to her sheltered upbringing. Who knows what really happened to her in Hollywood, but if she was sexually abused it is a big factor, and it makes the onset of mental illness even worse. She was talented and pretty, and funny. I'm sure her family worries and their hands are probably tied. She's probably paranoid and won't let them help her. Tragic for her and her family and hard for her family, too.

I deal with many physical ailments. I have had over 25 surgeries and have very rare diseases. I have noticed that doctors are so very busy seeing patients most of them want you in and out. They are no longer interested in the causation of your problems or trying to actually identify underlying causes of ailments. It’s almost as if they forgot why they became a doctor. It would be nice to have more doctors be open to these types of articles and really helping us patients who suffer greatly. Thank you for posting that great article and making us aware…

I really hate that there are people who expect the family members to be responsible for the sobriety or sanity of grown adults who have intractable problems. If family members had the ability to fix it, they WOULD.

Amanda's 37, even with a mental illness, she isn't going to want her parents to control her. She's disconnected from reality, so cannot tell who is helping her or harming her. It's similar to bipolar people refusing to take their meds once they are in a manic state. Also if you have an elderly parent with dementia, it's the same boat where they think they know what's best and perceive their child or caretaker as meddling and restrictive and lash back at them. Work with adults with severe autism and see how some will backlash at you even if you want to help them.

It's really hard to help someone with a mental illness, a neurological disorder or drug addiction. Even if they are model parents or spouses or siblings or whatever, they cannot control another adult and get them help. I feel bad for her parents because there's no evidence that they were abusive or exploiting her.
