I'm an eldergay and I certainly know how to do this, but it's a lot of extra effort compared to the effort required for you to just click on link.

R15 But many websites don't allow hotlinking. The photo/link might be broken when posted on here.

Or just c/p the link in the provided field. Why add 3 or 4 steps, not to mention downloading shit onto your computer from often strange websites.

R23 I tried both. Imgur preview pics are cropped in a way I don't like.

By secure I mean:

1) Are the GPS coordinates still embedded in the picture?

2) if the imgBB account is linked to my Facebook account does that mean posting a picture on DL could allow viewers to find my FB page?

R25 I've been using imgbb for a year without an account. Have no idea about GPS coordinates. I just use it for photos I find online.

I also think imagebb is safe enough - you don’t need to have an account or sign in - you just upload the relevant silly web pic you have just saved to your computer - so there’s not much traceable back to you.

It may be a few more clicks than just posting the web link to the image - but it’s so much nicer for all the other people on here that you are trying to share the joke with. And since the sharing is the point why wouldn’t you want to do that in the best way possible.

If you don't want to download the image (on WIndows):

Right click an image and select "copy image'.

On imgbb.com's home page, click the "Upload" button in the upper right corner (not "start uploading", unless it's an image from your computer). Do not click on "create account".

Upload screen will drop down. Don't click anything with your mouse. Instead tap CRTL-V (paste) on your keyboard.

You'll see the picture you're uploading appear. Beneath that, click the "upload" button.

Copy the link you're given and that will be the link you paste into a DL thread's "Web Site Link" text box.

When I click on an imgbb I tend to get pop-ups and videos in front of the image, sometimes immediately. Is that because I need to log on to it?

At some point, ImgBB posts might also turn into links (with no previews). We used to be able to post anything and it would show a preview. Now, you've got to test out your link to see whether DL will show a preview.

R42, I just copied a random painting off the Louvre website. I wanted to see if R29's instructions worked for me. I've never been able to do the embedded image thing. It does work.

I agree that Imgur does not show up well in link previews.

No. Just do a Google image search til you find a pic that suits your needs, then copy + paste its link. You may have to do it several times, as many won't show up here. It's quick, it's easy... and don't let the prisspot hall monitors here intimidate you.

Can I just cut a photo out of a magazine and tape it to my phone screen where I want it to be, OP?

Someone may have already said this but you don't even need to download the pic for imgbb.

When you see an image you like online, you can click on "OPEN IN NEW TAB" get that pic in its own webpage/url

THEN you COPY that URL and PASTE it in IMGBB using the "add image url" option after you click the "upload" button at top right. You do not need to sign or or make an account.

Note: this doesn't work 100% of the time because some URLs are scammy and the site won't accept it. But it's fine for the most part.

Things might be a bit different if you're using a phone or tablet but this is my method on a computer.

IMDb Photos and YouTube videos will display by simply entering the URL in the appropriate box.

IMDB and Pinterest are two sites that always show up in Link Previews. No extra steps needed.

How to post an embedded image isn't exactly obvious. The things you've mentioned are much easier and are explained in the "help" section, as Senior Lesbian has said.
