And yes, a fresh thread is a good idea. The other threads are fun and informative but there's a "spinning wheels" aura to them.

If he has a weak turnout of fans, I hope he posts something like this:
"MAGADONIANS, MAGADONIANS WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME? HAVE YOU BECOME RINOS? DO YOU NO LONGER WANT TO TAKE AMERICA BACK FROM THE MARXIST, COMMIE, LIBERAL, WOKE AGENDA LIKE ONLY I CAN DO FOR YOU? HAVE YOU ABANDONED TRUMP AFTER EVERYTHING HE HAS SACRIFICED FOR YOU, MORE THAN ANYONE HAS SACRIFICED IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD?"

And not for the first time nor the last.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | June 13, 2023 1:38 PM |
R5 - it could be three ponytailed hillbilly cousin-marrying MAGA extremist on scooters and he’d call it the biggest crowds ever. I expect he’ll have more supporters show up in Florida than NYC. I’m hoping at least one needs to be Ashlii Babbited. That’d make my day.

How brightly the sun shines on your greasy locks
Glinting off the swine's head you tote for Dear Leader
Oh, MAGAdonian! Oh, lil Princely MAGAdonian!
How I weep for the state of your cocklet -- so puny! Your devotion -- so misplaced!
Oh, lil Princely, MAGAdonian!

Unlike NY, there will be no cameras, audio devices or pictures inside the courthouse. Probably more media outside the courthouse than protesters. The circus freak show that always shows up to support Trump is not doing the Republican party any favors.
BREAKING NEWS: MIKE LINDELL SAYS HE'S GOING TO BE THERE!!!! That makes it all worthwhile.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | June 13, 2023 2:41 PM |
[quote]Unlike NY, there will be no cameras, audio devices or pictures inside the courthouse.
There were no cameras or audio devices in NY either, only a handful of approved photographers were allowed in to take a couple of snaps, then were ushered right out before the arraignment itself began.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | June 13, 2023 2:44 PM |
Will Lindell bring enough Hardees for everyone? When the guy known for getting busted at the drive thru says he's coming, he better be providing snacks for all of the MAGAdonians.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | June 13, 2023 2:45 PM |
The reporter this morning around 10:30 said there were fewer people there than were in NYC. She said NYC crowds "were more robust..." LOL! Mostly because Trump haters turned out to kick some MAGAt asses.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | June 13, 2023 2:46 PM |
What time do the festivities begin?
by Anonymous | reply 24 | June 13, 2023 2:48 PM |
Look. The MAGAts of Florida will show up after noon. The elders have to take their meds, have their morning BM, and get the early bird dinner at Olive Garden. The younger MAGAts are at work. They'll probably "get sick" after lunch leave work and show up before 1-2 and show up. Right now things look rather festive. Oh. I just heard that Trump would be leaving Florida immediately after his arraignment and head for NEw Jersey where he will hold a rally and talk to his supporters. So I think that sort of fucks up plans for a mini insurrection in Florida.

Hot and humid in Miami. It’s summer in Florida. It’s no wonder there’s a sparse crowd; it’s unbearable if you’re not in water.
Plus, Miami is full of Hispanics. Not just Cubans and there’s a large Jewish population.
As others have said, more media than supporters.

MAGAdonians are getting desensitised to his indictments at this point, I doubt anyone will show up by the time he's arraigned in Georgia or D.C. or possibly New Jersey. It's like been there, done that, got the Ashli Babbitt T-shirt.

Bodes well for Anusmouth, I'm sure. Doesn't every innocent defendant act thusly?

NBC News: Nevada GOP Chairman Michael McDonald and Republican National Committeeman Jim DeGraffenreid at the E. Barrett Prettyman Courthouse in Washington, D.C., today, where the grand jury probing Jan. 6 is meeting.
McDonald and DeGraffenreid were two of the six people in Nevada who signed a document attesting that Trump had won the state’s electoral votes in the so-called fake elector scheme. McDonald has defended signing the document and the FBI seized his phone last summer, a source previously confirmed to NBC News. McDonald testified last year before the House Jan. 6 committee behind closed doors, where he invoked the Fifth Amendment more than 200 times.

Things must be bad for Donald Jr, Trump had second-string son, Eric, with him today for the arraignment. Is Eric all he has left? Has Eric won the race to be the Apprentice, as it were? Donald Jr. is too strung out, Barron is in his cage, Ivanka won’t return his calls, and Trump would never appear in public alone with the fat one.
R104, they go in early and get processed (mugshot, fingerprints, etc) and then wait around. He’s not the o Lu thing going on today in the court. Just like his NYC arraignment, it will take at least a couple of hours.

As I was typing that I realized that he must be the WH valet the Bidens wisely dismissed when they moved in. Trump had dismissed the valet under the Obama and Bush administrations and brought this guy up from the WH cafeteria in the basement where he was a culinary specialist. Quite a jump. The restaurant is a popular spot for candidates on the campaign trail. Faith leaders prayed for the former president, and supporters snapped photos with him. Trump briefly addressed reporters, saying he would be giving a "little speech" at Bedminster.
Asked at the restaurant how the court went, Trump said he thinks his case is "going great."
"I think it's a rigged deal — we have a rigged country here with the country, we have a country that's corrupt," Trump added.
Supporters also sang "Happy Birthday" to the former president, who turns 77 on Wednesday.

R224 I think Florida and New York attorney Michael Popok on the Meidas Touch YouTube channel said Cannon may have been selected by the court clerk who filed the indictment document, perhaps based on Cannon’s prior involvement in Trump’s search warrant lawsuit about his having the documents. A different judge was named as the magistrate judge that actually presided over the arraignment. Popok said the 11th Circuit appeals court will very likely remove Cannon if she doesn’t resign voluntarily and her presence is challenged. I couldn’t tell from Popok’s statements if the clerk that assigned Cannon is dumb, lazy, a MAGat, or all three.
by Anonymous | reply 228 | June 14, 2023 3:51 AM |
Judge Cannon should recuse herself but don’t hold you breath. If the government tries to remove her, they’ll be accused of trying to get a favorable judge. Maybe if she makes a stupid judgment, the appeals court will remove her.

Cannon isn't recusing herself or she'd've announced that by now. We're stuck with her, Smith is basically just waiting for her to make a mistake, so he can lodge a motion to reassign to the appeals court.

Smith can ask her to recuse. He doesn’t need to wait until she makes a mistake. If she declines — which she likely will do — he can then take her decision up to the 11th Circuit, where he has a decent chance of prevailing.

2. The Bill Clinton case did not involve classified documents.
3. Trump just admitted to some elements the prosecution would need to prove. Prosecutors can now just show this tape."

Great. Now we have curiosity trolls.
Call me idealistic, irresponsible, unreliable, throw in undependable too, but I think there is cause to predict that Judge Cannon will behave herself and put in effort at being fair.
Not only for the reasons already stated - Smith will immediately appeal to the same body that handed her a professional humiliation and will do so again, but, let's keep it real : while she may have a lifetime appointment, even she notices that Trump is very diminished.
I think by now she may believe it's "safe" to rule impartially.
And no, Smith will not, nor should he ask her to recuse unless she makes a wrong, appealable trial ruling.

Listen, Aileen Cannon joined the Federalist Society as a LAw student. She was first sponsored by Marco Rubio, who, ironically sits on the Intelligence committee. Rick Scott is also backing her, and Clarence Thomas is the Supreme who presides over Florida's 11th Court district. She was disciplined by the Chief judge of the Appeals Court, but she's still there. And if it's true some clerk assigned her the case, it would not surprise me to discover that clerk is a MAGAt. That was no accident. IMO, the only way to remove her is to entice her with future promises. Have to be done behind the scenes. She is a registered Republican who donated to De Santis in 2018. Some fool on TV said she embarrassed herself and was reprimanded for the way she messed up Trump's previous case and maybe she learned her lesson. But that's total bullshit. That's "Susan Collins logic."

Of course Cannon is politically, ideologically and professionally craven. And I do wonder about her basic legal reasoning skills, too.
My point is now that at this point everybody knows, including the conservative 11th circuit, that Trump is diminished, and yes, so are his dangerous Flying Monkeys, and that's true no matter how many restaurant crawls Trump takes in Little Havana.
I'm not underestimating Trump or his Moronic Minions. I'm just saying having to hitch your wagon to him, rescue him, that is less and less a factor by the minute.

R248 I see what you're saying, but as I look at the scramble by especially the House members and others in leadership positions attempting to defend this, I can't help but remember other occasions when at first it seemed like his supporters were backing away, but they they rallied and got on the same page.
Yes, Trump is diminished. But he is still the former POTUS, and the whole idea of a political prosecution seemed to resonate with Cannon the last time. She is not looking at this the way you or I would. For Rubio and the others, it's not just about Trump.
Ultimately, They want this to look like an attack on the Republican Party because so many of them, including Clarence Thomas and GInny are vulnerable. Members of Congress are vulnerable, etc. They know they a r e all in the shitter, and for Republicans, that is the signal to dig in and fight like hell and go on the offensive. She is invested in that too. She needs to be removed.
The Dems are at the moment not dancing on the indictments and Biden has admonished them not to comment. Good. The Republicans claim it's all political. So the basis to remove her IMO strategically is for the Dems to make sure she is cast as the ultimate political partisan with no place in this legal proceeding.
Do a reverse psych on the Republicans. They say "It's political" Dems should counter with, "Yes, Cannon is being too political." Make a stink. Fight. Because this is bigger than Trump. The January 6th investigation is going to cast a wide net and they know it. They're setting the table for their base right now.

by Anonymous | reply 255 | June 14, 2023 12:59 PM |
R250 here. Just read that the Georgia governor, who is an avowed enemy of Donald Trump, just announced he will support who ever the Republican nominee is, even if it is Trump. He will support Trump if Trump gets the nomination. I expect more Republicans to do likewise. R253, that would certainly be the normal reaction. But aside from getting smacked down, what were the consequences? She didn't suffer any consequences beyond that. She has shown, IMO that she is first above all a Republican no- matter- what.
by Anonymous | reply 256 | June 14, 2023 1:01 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 260 | June 14, 2023 1:14 PM |
R257, but if she is 100 % die hard Republican, and she has gotten where she is by being loyal to the Republicans, then being overruled is not a very big price to pay. Her priorities, as she demonstrated in the previous case, have very little to do with the Law and everything to do with politics. She has a life time appointment to the court. She's young enough that eventually, down the road she will come up for a promotion to the Appeals bench. And she won't get there based on her legal abilities, she will get there because of her politics. I know I seem cynical, but as I have observed how things work these past few years, I can't help but be. Look at Supreme Court Justice Amy. Political ideology is all that counts for these Extreme Republicans.

The prosecution can appeal a loss in the Federal Court system?
by Anonymous | reply 262 | June 14, 2023 1:16 PM |
Good point r262. They can appeal certain rulings about procedure, like about what evidence is admissible, but if Dump is found innocent, that’s the end. My feeling is if Dump thinks she’s in the bag, he’d forego a jury trial and have her adjudicate, knowing full well she wouldn’t convict.
by Anonymous | reply 263 | June 14, 2023 1:38 PM |
The Judge was selected by some kind of random process (one pundit even seemed to say it was a computer algorithm with various selection criteria narrowing the pool down to three judges). I think R262 has the main point. While there are scenarios where certainly things can be appealed, she'll certainly have the ability to affect the trial and its outcome. Look for her to accept challenged to the prosecutors and long delaying hearings on that, just to start. She can (and likely will) delay things to last through the 2024 election.
Rocket docket? Umm... stop it docket.

Trump, ... and I have said this before,... will not leave the country. Not because he doesn't want to, but because he only has power and influence here. He is going to see all his delusions bursting before his eyes. He thinks those oligarchs and arbas all love him because they kiss his ass. But they laugh at him behind his back. Indulge me while I fantasize a little. Trump flees the country to one of his authoritarian refuges. He continues to campaign from there, retaining his hard-core base but shedding less bat-shit support to the point that when he does get the nomination in a lively, remote-speech-enhanced convention, big-money donors actually run some more conventional rightwinger as an independent. Biden cruises to victory à la Clinton in 1996 or Obama in 2012, and that's the last we hear of MAGA, pending the next iteration of reactionary astroturfing.

The exact audio and transcripts from the FBI surveillance are a very powerful device. It's 90 minutes. Painful but worth watching.Reality was arrested for passing one document of classified information to a member of the media. She was a contractor who discovered Russian interference in the 2016 election. BEFORE the election. Trump went after her with a vengeance. It shows how the justice department can chose to be aggressive or not. Her lawyer was on Chris Hayes' show talking about how Trump didn't have to sit for a mug shot or have his passport revoked and how few limitations were placed on him. He was treated with kid gloves. After watching her I feel like Trump will never see the inside of a jail. I do believe he will be convicted though. Because unlike January 6th, which is essentially a domestic uprising, the classified documents affect our allies too and the international implications demand we do something. Other world leaders faced prison so he deserves something consequential.

We have already discussed how many mentally ill people there are in this country running around but I didn't realize until I watched this that most of them are Trumper's. We really, really need to find a way to help all these people with mental issues not just because of Trump but because of all that are like him and these people feel the need to connect with them..

Okay now...
Why would Trump reject a deal? Here are my thoughts;
He believed that there were more than enough judges, et alia in place who would never bring charges against him or convict him. I still believe that Trump saw a much greater payday in selling those documents to a foreign concern. Finally, he surrounded himself with far too many "yes, people" who dared not tell him the truth and therefore he believed his own press.

As long as he can raise money and go to rallies, make speeches and treat this like a political problem instead of a legal problem he will be fine. He isn't suffering nearly as much as he should. He still believes he can beat it by doing the same fucking thing he has been doing for the past 8 years. Every single time he is caught in a mess, he goes public with his victimhood. The tactics he has been using got old to me the first time he tried. I cannot watch the news media. All they want to do is keep talking about what he is saying, how he is reacting, what he might do, what he should do, blah blah blah. I am tired of the shit show. Turn off your TV. We have a long wait until a trial. The press knows nothing, they will milk this as long as their ratings hold. How dare they normalize this POS? They're the ones who made him and allowed him to get away with it. They . The media needs Trump more than any other entity out here.

R343 100% (as the young folks write these days). Trump is a grifter performance "artist" par excellence. He can control himself in court, where an outburst could cause a judge to immediately charge him with contempt of court and have him hauled away to cool down. The raving he does outside of a court room I believe is completely performative to achieve his own ends. It might be why he doesn't stroke out or have a heart attack: he's acting for money and fame.

r342 Several people who really know Trump have said that he is scared to death. He is miserable and will be until the end. The anticipation is usually worse than the actually event which in his case would be because he can't go to a regular jail. He would still eat well, live well, etc. but as long as he doesn't realize that he will be scared. it is probably going to take a great toll on his health too. This much stress isn't any good for anyone no matter what age and he's old. He has reached his finishing point.

LOL! I'm listening to "Morning Joe" and they had me laughing because of the way they were going on about Trump's obsession with the boxes. It reminded of the character Neely O'Hara in the movie "Valley of the Dolls"

by Anonymous | reply 350 | June 16, 2023 12:01 PM |
R349, if he's scared shitless and worried, maybe it's because he's thinking about all the stuff the DoJ has not discovered, and he thinks it is in jeopardy. Or maybe he's worried about some pissed off Russian, or Saudi who might want to off him for being so sloppy and careless.
A normal person like you and I would be scared. Trump isn't normal. He gets angry, and goes out here and performs. He is convinced if he keeps the Republican Party on his side, and he keeps his base, he will beat this. And why not? He survived two impeachments, and negotiated deals for a Trump University settlement and the theft from his non- profit charity.
His financial liability with E Jean Carroll requires no jail time since it's civil. As far as he is concerned, those are wins, and that's how he'll spin it. He was attacked and everything is political. That is how he is framing all his legal problems. I believe that in his mind he is so powerful and so smart, he is untouchable. The notion of going to prison is as impossible to him as the sun rising in the west.
I've been watching him and reading about him for years now as have so many of us, and that's how I interpret this current situation. It's nice to believe he's scared. But he worries more about whether or not Mar A Lago runs out of his favorite chocolate cake.
by Anonymous | reply 351 | June 16, 2023 12:25 PM |

R357 Ronna Romney McDaniel has done a horrible job running the RNC. Mitt Romney must really be ashamed of her. If they wanted to do better at winning elections, they should hire someone like Michael Steele.
Then again, do I really care or want them to do better? No. Keep flailing and infighting, it just means more wins for Democrats, democracy, and the USA.
by Anonymous | reply 363 | June 16, 2023 5:03 PM |
When the census was happening, Rona McDaniel’s RNC sent out a similar questionnaire form that deceptively looked like census forms, but contained way more extensive and personal questions. It was not labeled RNC, but “community” something. I expect many thousands were deceived. I received one, but am not a Republican voter.
I called the RNC headquarters and complained. I also wrote them demanding no more mailings from them. I let the Census Bureau know I received such, and informed them about the tactic the RNC used which obviously they already knew.
How I got on their mailing list, I believe, is that I wrote one of my state’s Republican Senators concerning a local environmental issue.
The RNC is sleazy.

Laughable. First, he spent most of his time while he was purportedly “running the country,” watching Faux News all day long. Second, he had nothing to do once his fat ass was out of office. He had plenty of time to go through those boxes in all of 2021 and into 2022.

by Anonymous | reply 381 | June 17, 2023 1:06 AM |
R381, I heard one of the lawyers who quit advised Trump to return the documents, he would not and that’s why he quit. Instead, Trump was listening to some idiot from Judicial Watch, who is not even a lawyer and has no legal experience, but told him, sure, you can keep those documents, they’re yours. Trump liked that answer much better.
If he had listened to his lawyers, he would have just returned them and likely got away with it, maybe with a fine at most. Likely not even that. I wonder what Trump is thinking about his refusal to listen to his counsel now? Regretting it at all? Or has he talked himself into some form of denial? If he goes to prison, that will be the reason.

He was trying to make a deal for Trump to just give them the stuff and call it a day. But the Judicial Watch guy was telling him not to. I do so want the other shoe to drop. Out here somewhere is someone or several someones who can tell us who he showed them to and what his plans were for them, and maybe he already did a few deals. That fucking election was stolen by shifting 77,744 votes in 3 states. He tried to do it again in 2020. Remember his phone call to Georgia? He was very specific about the number of votes he wanted Georgia to "find." but the SoS told him to go fuck himself. The Russians came to the U.S. in 2014 and travelled to a number of states to observe how the elections process worked. This was confirmed. It isn't speculation. Also confirmed that hackers found a way in to the computers tabulating votes and "could" have changed them in at least 21 states, but an investigation could find no evidence any votes were changed. Now, I ask you, if you were able to hack into the system and had the ability to change the votes, would you walk away, if you were Trump's people? PResident Carter said it quite plainly. Trump stole the 2016 election.

He picks out the people he wants to be devoted to him without fail and treats them like royalty to get what he wants out of them, including to be on his side when he gets himself into trouble. That's the way all manipulators are. They've always got to have their little core group of devotees who are too stupid to see what's going on and how they're being used, or worse know what the score is but don't care as long as they're being treated nicely. And I've always said there are few people more disreputable than those who turn a blind eye to others who mistreat people as long as they're being treated well by that person.

The worst thing we can all do is be complacent about all the ways these Republicans try to "win" elections. The Biden agenda has to include killing the filibuster, expanding the court, then passing anti discrimination against people's sexual orientation, passing reproductive rights, VOTING RIGHTS, and going after the thugs in every damned state who have seized control of the Republican PArty. They do not represent the majority of voters. And while we're at it, declare Proud Boys and Oath Keepers domestic terrorists. The fact that the GOP goes after books and education in general, tampering with the curriculum is proof positive that these rigid ideologues want to truly change the country, by cultivating ignorance at a young age, conditioning kids to reject Democratic norms. Trump is a marketing and media savant. Everyone has fallen for his shtick for far too long. I was exhausted with the MSNBC echo chamber... (and I am pretty far to the left) ... but after 2020 I was so grateful to just limit my mainlining of news; all Trump, all the time, was toxic for me. I began to love the world and have a life. 2022, no Red Wave, keeping the Senate...
Then the indictment, CNN's existential drama, I began tuning in, again, to lots of pundit coverage on the cable networks.
Going back and forth between CNN and MSNBC coverage of the indictment - Jesus Christ - MSNBC is aimed at elite lawyers who want to follow detailed analysis - a very liberal bias, but intelligent and reality-based. CNN is just clown show performance - it truly is just entertainment. Colors, sets, chyrons, simplified bombast. MSNBC - lots of boxes with talking heads focusing on 1) details about the law 2) partisan political analysis and 3) cynical but celebratory reaction to Trump's legal jeopardy.
CNN is a sugar-high of blathering surfaces. MSNBC is a sludge through the details seasoned with progressive grave-dancing... but at least it seems like news.

We need to stop simply focusing on Federal elections and start taking back our STATE houses.
As we have seen, when the STATES are strong, it prevents the Fed from getting out of control or allowing some shitgibbon traitor to just throw out our votes and install whoever they want.
Yes, it’s important to retain the WH. We can do both. Win back our state houses and keep the WH. We got complacent. We fell asleep at the wheel.

That’s what tRump is hoping for. Jack Smith is aiming to deny it to him. That’s why his prosecutors didn’t put travel restrictions on tRump, didn’t demand that he forfeit his passport, etc. Because he knew that it would unnecessarily delay the trial without much real benefit. It’s why Smith has already begun turning over the non-classified discovery materials, to save time.

She dressed us all in the same one-piece type of white pajamas (padded feet) and forced our mothers to make little cottontails that snapped on to our rear ends. And we all wore white bunny ears --- homemade, of course. Then we rehearsed the Bunny Hop for two weeks so we could perform it for the elementary school's autumn show. At the end of the dance we tore off our oh-so-cute cotton tails and threw them at the audience. When the audience laughed we didn't understand and most of us started to cry uncontrollably Mrs. DeGoyer was not happy. We weren't too thrilled either.

Garland needs to go. I guess the American public listens to all these lies about how "political" all these investigations are, and having someone who moves as slow as Garland sort of tamps down on the bitching. But this whole Insurrection thing has been mishandled from the start. The lack of urgency led too many people to believe this was no big deal. It was a big deal. We look weak in the eyes of the international community for allowing it. And our own people are confused, and perfectly willing t o minimize it. I would have insisted that a Special Prosecutor (Jack Smith) be appointed to oversee the investigation and set up a military tribunal to litigate the cases. The tribunal and the investigators would have agencies in every single state to investigate and charge people. It would have been done with a sense of urgency suitable to the crime. Trump and his sidekicks would have been tried in a military court. And Gitmo would have been repopulated with domestic terrorists.

[quote] Garland needs to go.
First it was that he had to go because he refused to prosecute at all and now that tRump has been indicted it’s because he hasn’t moved quickly enough. For two years DOJ has been prosecuting the J6 insurrectionists who breached the Capitol, including some of the leaders like the Proud Boys. Reports are that Smith is readying more indictments in DC for the political leaders who attempted to thwart the Constitution and stop the peaceful transfer of power.
I’ve known Merrick for 30 years, first when he was in DOJ previously in the 1990s, and then as an appellate judge. While I think that he’s one of the smartest lawyers around, I’ve nevertheless been disappointed in the pace of this process — though, to be fair, it matches perfectly with the person I came to know. Now that Smith has moved against Cheatolini I’m willing to give Merrick more time to indict the rest of this band of traitors.

R444, Garland lacked the fire to prosecute this the way it should have been. Garland is probably a very decent, scholarly, deliberate person. No way should an event that occurred on January 6th 2021, still be up in the air.All the planners and funders are still planning and funding plots to undermine our elections. Many of them have taken over the machinery of the state parties. And Michael Flynn Roger Stone, Steve Bannon et al are still out here along with Trump raising money and making speeches. That is so wrong I am at a loss to explain it. No wonder people are willing to believe it's all political. With no sense of urgency, and no swift and certain consequences they are r olling right along. The insurrection was t he beginning. It's still going on. The Conspiracy to undermine and overthrow our government is still happening. I'm sorry. Merrick Garland was out of his depth, and I wish Smith had been appointed two years ago. This has nothing to do with Garland's capabilities. In normal times he'd be f ine. This is no ordinary time...to quote my favorite First Lady, Eleanor Roosevelt.

The people screaming loudest right now are House members who are worried about playing to their districts. Not a single one of them could win a state wide election. That interview with Bret Baier on Fox News was off-the-rails bonkers. The absolute best thing that he could say about in hindsight is that it provided him a basis to begin to claim an insanity defense. His exasperated “I didn’t have a document,” in the face of several people who will testify that he in fact showed them a highly classified document is hardly convincing. The way he argued with Baier about not being able to declassify documents because he was no longer president — when they were both saying the same thing — made him seem even more stupid than you could imagine.
It makes you shake your head in stunned amazement that this braying jackass served for even one day in that high office, let alone four years.

Unpopular opinion but I believe the reason it took so long for Garland to do anything is because he had to “clean house” first.
There are dozens of Russian spies/sympathizers inthe FBI and NSA. McGonigal comes to mind.
The dude had retired and yet, Garland’s DOJ gathered the evidence, sent the case completely across the country to avoid McGonigal’s network of lackeys and snagged the sonofabitch.
How many MORE scumbags do you think had to be rounded up in the FBI before the investigations could begin? People we’ve never heard of but we’re either part of the planning/part of the intelligence network or part of the financing had to be dealt with FIRST and quietly so not to alert the real targets.
The truth is, the Russians, the loony Dominionists, Opus Dei losers and libertardian dumb fucks have ALL dug their tentacles in DEEP to the government.
Liberty University, Bob Jones University and the rest of these reich wing shitholes have been brainwashing kids for years and setting them up with internships.

No. It is an appealable order. If Judge Loose Cannon tried that nonsense she would be smacked down by the Eleventh Circuit very quickly. And, Jeopardy has not yet attached, so no, it is definitely not over.

In that interview, the short parts of it I have watched in association with various people talking about it on video, Trump is highly agitated and disoriented. Like all compulsive liars, he can't keep his previous statements clear in his head because they don't reflect reality, but were only statements made up on the spot in order to divert attention from what really happened. The man is a blabbermouth and a bully, NOTHING more. The point is getting close where just changing the subject is not going to get him where he needs to be, and he senses it, and he's taking on the look of a trapped animal now.
Trump KNOWS and always has known that he did not have the authority to declassify any documents simply by virtue of his being President and "declaring" them (whether silently to himself or to some other party) to be declassified. He made that bullshit up on the spot, and has stuck with it (EXACTLY as with his lies about the "stolen" election), simply because it gets him off the hook, in his demented, stupid mind. If Trump had ACTUALLY believed he had legal authority to declassify those documents on his own, he would have certainly filed a federal lawsuit for their immediate return the very next morning after the DOJ raid at MagaLardo. The fact that he did not do so *PROVES* that he knew good and well that the seized material was being held wrongfully by him (in addition to the fact that he diligently hid the goddamned stuff even though he was under a subpoena to return it.) The whole event is really farcical. He's a buffoon.
Secondly, EVEN IF the documents had been somehow "declassified" in accord with Donny's cockamamie, made-up-on-the-spot claims, the documents STILL belonged to the US Government, they were not HIS. He went through a months-long ruse, lying to the govt., returning a few of them, lying and saying that ALL of them had been returned, and then carefully attempting to HIDE the rest from Federal agents, concealing them on his own property. Remember that lady named Reality Winner who went to Federal prison for retaining ONE PAGE of a classified US Government document recently?
No wonder he's beginning to look shifty and scared. Look at all the members of his sorry former cabinet who have declared publicly their belief that Shitler stands a very high chance of going to prison now. It can't happen too soon, and I'm really glad Jack Smith made the speedy trial demand. The circus is coming to town, folks.

R497, you make some very interesting points. To me, watching the snippets from the interview, what I sense is that he knows he is losing support and he is terrified, floundering. I get a sense that the substance of the charges are secondary to the loss of support. When I say that I'm not disputing what you say, I'm just enhancing it. Trump has always believed he could "shoot someone in the middle of 5th avenue" and get away with it, BECAUSE he had support. He is slowly realizing his shelf life has expired.

I'm not dismissing your point of view R498, but the impression I got was that he (Trump) was indeed genuinely taken off guard. It seemed to me that he was expecting/anticipating the usual softball FOX interview and Bret Baier threw a curve ball. Trump is such a narcissist that he obviously was unaware Baier's credibility as a journalist is seriously on the line and he needed to repair his reputation.

Thinking about this a little more today, can you imagine Donny sitting through the ordeal of that criminal trial and not being able to say ONE WORD in his own defense? The journalists' descriptions of how Shitler was behaving during the brief arraignment are priceless; imagine him having to sit and writhe and squirm for a couple of weeks like that. He could easily just fucking die from the stress of it...Campaign season will be gearing up, even in August (although I expect this case won't actually get started until probably mid-October), and he is going to powerfully feel the need to do something for his public (the Deplorables) to show that he is strong enough to beat this. I predict he will ignore the stern warnings of his own attorneys and get up on the stand to try to defend himself. The prosecution will extract lie after lie after lie from him and then rub it all in his helpless, sputtering face, in front of a jury. He's going to lose, he's going to be completely humiliated, he's got NO HOPE of becoming President again, he could very well go to Federal prison, and (best of all) the Feds are coming after his wretched family now (Jared and the 2 billion $$ he weaseled out of the fucking Saudi Arabians). Justice is coming for that family of goddamned criminals.

Judge Loose Cannon setting a trial d ate for August, scares me. What if she decides to throw out the case ? Bitch. Smith should have insisted she recuse immediately because if he waits she will fuck this up. And BTW: She is definitely getting legal guidance from some Conservative legal assholes behind the scene. Not the televised attempt to overthrow the government. Not the stealing of the 2016 election (with Russian assistance.) Not his ongoing collusion with the Russians. Not the tax evasion and loan fraud. Not the raping of children. Not the trafficking with his “modeling agency.” And on and on.
The documents are obviously a very serious matter, but the fucker could have squirmed out of this if he’d just returned the documents the first 3 times he was asked nicely. And one wonders why he didn’t just scan them rather than taking physical copies.

Apparently Jack Smith and team are still interviewing witnesses, including the fake electors pertaining to the January 06 matter. Also, they allegedly are still interviewing potential witnesses, including Mar-a-Lago staff and perhaps visitors, regarding the mishandling of documents case. Other witnesses that were in D.C. may still are being interviewed. Some may be cooperating to avoid charges or more serious charges and negotiating pleas. Mark Meadows, allegedly, is singing; and collaborative witnesses are sought to verify his upcoming trial testimony.
Regarding August, look for Fani Willis in Georgia to be filing indictments, and scheduling trial dates after the Jack Smith initiated proposed dates commence and what the judge determines to extend.

As is my practice, for months now, maybe a few years, I have been doing my research, reading history, and yes the comparisons of what we're witnessing here in the U.S. to the ascendance of Nazi Germany are pretty remarkable. But I realized I was so focused on those comparisons I neglected American history. So I've started reading about the American South.
I'm familiar with the broad stroke events, Civil War, Slavery, etc. etc. etc. but I wanted to drill down and focus on the psychology and t he cultural and economic elements in the aftermath of the Civil War, particularly the decades after Reconstruction. And in the portrait of the South that's emerging, the seeds of what we face today all over this country from the faith based Christian Nationalists/White Supremacists are glaringly obvious.
As cliche' as it sounds, it is like a cancer that has spread all over our country, but the seeds of it were planted in the South. One of the authors I've read described the South as almost like a colony of industrial America. They talked about the economic pyramid, about the prideful, stubborn dedication to their "Glorious (lost ) Cause" and the deliberate lack of educational resources for the masses of workers, (poor whites and Blacks) pervasive, multi generational illiteracy, suppression of women, and the weaponization of religion.
Their mental isolation was re enforced by lack of physical infrastructure, roads, bridges, rail transport, etc, even tractors for their largely agrarian economy and we're talking about the 1920's and 30's. The kind of poverty the masses experienced was something it's hard to get your head around. Malnutrition, untreated illness, even the rudimentary basic hygiene and medical care, no electricity, no indoor plumbing, etc.
What held all this horror together, this parallel universe was racism. And those who could, got the hell out. Mass migration. The powerful robber barons, absentee corporate dons, only cared about profits. Anyone who suggested women had rights, or segregation was wrong, or starting unions for the millworkers and miners, etc. was accused of being a Bolshevik or a communist, and there were actually armed struggles shooting wars with the coal miners. There's a real history of misery and oppression that needs to be exposed. it's like this is the underside of the so called American dream, and this is where the Nazified GOP wants to take all of us.

It seems to me that Florida residents are good with everything that he has done so far and want more. Or are the residents of that state that apathetic?
To stop this mess, it will take more than repetitive political advertising and voting. This state must suffer financially severely in order to get the message. It will only be then that this foolishness will stop.

It's gonna be a showdown between Chris Christie and Trump. Betcha. And Chris Christie will lose because he has an unattractive personality and he is physically unattractive. No one likes pushy, overbearing, know it alls. The truth is, I hope Trump does get nominated, because Biden will beat him hands down. Christie is also dishonest. If he tells you he would never do something, that means he will. He will say something like, "I'd never mess with Social Security" but then he will and he will tell you he had to and offer up all kinds of bullshit to justify it. The same goes for pardoning Trump, and shutting down the investigations. He might say he won't, but he will.

Agree, R592

R592- Well said. There isn't one republican that should be trusted at this point. They are all on the same page and have shown us what they are and what they intend to do .

Well, IMHO... Democrats/Progressives need to stop worrying about Republicans and their mess and start really grooming/nurturing their own voters. A couple of days ago I was speaking to this young VERY liberal/progressive (I mean... we're talking "All We Are Saying Is Give Peace A Chance", Kumbuya type) person and she goes on to tell me that Biden is no better than Trump, etc. Okay.... But, as I thought more about it (and I'm not a raging Biden fan--although I think he is doing a great job) this might well be a person who will not vote or vote for that transcendental woman because she is SO angry because she is not getting her way. I view people like her (because there are many like her) represent an opportunity for Trump in the Republicans. Just do whatever and promote whatever to dissuade people from voting. For example...
Were I Latino (or some other undocumented immigrant) I would be HIGHLY PISSED that the DACA issue and similar are not even being thought about (and haven't for some time) by the Democrats. Yet they want my vote? Democrats had better start messaging better why (even if it will take some time) they are the BEST option(s) to the alternatives.

[quote] And Chris Christie will lose because he has an unattractive personality and he is physically unattractive. No one likes pushy, overbearing know-it-alls.
This describes Trump at least as much as it does Christie—at least to the majority of the country. The Republican base just has a big fat blind spot when it comes to Trump.

Hope you know the GOP game plan is to get Trump or any Republican for that matter, elected PResident in 2024. It is urgent that they do this, because they intend to shut down all investigations into the election fraud and the insurrection, and if necessary, pardon Trump and all who were involved.

"The Republican base just has a big fat blind spot when it comes to Trump."
At the big rally in Pickens, SC the other day, did Trump bother to stay and press the flesh with his admirers. Did he stay and eat BBQ with the natives? Did he bounce babies while they were sitting on his lap?
Hell no, he was out of there like a flash, back to the safe confines of Bedminster, NJ golf club. Does anyone honestly think DJT would be caught dead associating with trailer park trash in backwoods SC?
On 1/6/21 Trump was pissed his demonstrators weren't dressed in Brooks Brothers suits. He sure as hell wouldn't want to be seen with a bunch of rubes in cut-offs jeans, tank tops and Daisy Dukes.

R597, I think we're all taking that for granted.

Golly, R597, thanks for the newsflash. We had no idea that was their plan!

ElderLez, another thread, please?

R598- They like the hate he brings. They like the fact we hate him and fear the destruction he brings. I remember how they acted at the beginning of the pandemic. Refusing to wear a mask to the point of violence, refusing to be vaccinated. They thrive on bulling people, just like their fat orange orange God. They very stupidly believe their loyalty and support of this monster will be rewarded when be is reelected. Boy, are they in for a surprise. The minute he no longer needs them he will destroy them. That is what he does to everyone who has ever made the mistake of trusting him.
