by Anonymousreply 1June 13, 2023 1:48 AM

Wow! Good actor. Handsome guy.

by Anonymousreply 2June 13, 2023 1:50 AM

How sad. I just watched him in “The Ritz” just a couple of weeks ago. RIP.

by Anonymousreply 3June 13, 2023 1:50 AM

Damn. See my post in the celebrity death pool asking which ones ride motorcycles. He was the sex in the creepy Laura Dern movie.

by Anonymousreply 4June 13, 2023 1:50 AM

Had a crush on him when he was younger. Handsome and talented man.

by Anonymousreply 5June 13, 2023 1:51 AM

by Anonymousreply 10June 13, 2023 1:51 AM

by Anonymousreply 16June 13, 2023 1:54 AM

by Anonymousreply 17June 13, 2023 1:55 AM

Oh no! I met him a few times in the 80s. He and my dad were friends.

by Anonymousreply 18June 13, 2023 1:56 AM

He was one of my longtime crushes😢

by Anonymousreply 19June 13, 2023 1:57 AM

He blocked me on Twitter! I have no idea why . I’m still so sad about his death . So freakish

by Anonymousreply 20June 13, 2023 1:58 AM

This sucks!!

Not only was he a hot piece in his day, he was super-active on social media in recent years and an amusing Trump/GOP critic.

by Anonymousreply 21June 13, 2023 1:58 AM

Someone has to say it...he had a great ass but he couldn't live forever!

by Anonymousreply 22June 13, 2023 1:58 AM

I wish he had stuck around to see Trump in prison.

by Anonymousreply 23June 13, 2023 1:59 AM

Did anyone see the Lifetime movie where he played wife murderer Michael Peterson? The movie itself was so so but he was good in it

by Anonymousreply 38June 13, 2023 2:11 AM

When will politicians find the courage to take down the murder industry of motorcycles.

The chances of a fatality in a motorcycle accident are approximately 30 times higher than in a car.

Motorcycle accidents have a staggering 80% injury or death rate, while car accidents remain around 20%.

Motorcycle riders over 40 are around 20 times more likely to be injured in the case of an accident than car drivers of the same age.

Even though motorcycles result in just 3% of all registered vehicles, they are accountable for over 5% of highway-related fatalities.

by Anonymousreply 39June 13, 2023 2:13 AM

I'm pretty sure I jerked off to his naked ass in "Hair" when I was a teenager. He was cute AF in his youth.

by Anonymousreply 40June 13, 2023 2:14 AM

A coworker that did hair for movies and TV and whenever it got picked up she got a full-time gig on that show. I also once told Scott wolf to shut up at a concert in Park City.

by Anonymousreply 45June 13, 2023 2:22 AM

Who would have thought Treat Williams would die before Wendy Williams?

by Anonymousreply 46June 13, 2023 2:36 AM

Saw him in an off-Broadway revue of Maybe I'm Doing It Wrong in a theater in the west 20s NYC in the early 80s. He stood directly in front of me as he delivered a song. Penny Marshall and John McEnroe were in attendance. He had a mammoth role in one of Sidney Lumet's best films Prince of the City. Sad.

by Anonymousreply 56June 13, 2023 4:00 AM

When I was 16, two boys in my HS got in motorcycle accidents which rendered them vegetables in perpetuity. I have only been on one in my life, and if I think about it for any time at all, I shiver inside. Most guys I knew in HS did not get motorcycles as a result. If it had just been one of them, it wouldn't have made as much of a difference. Two made it seem as if our town was cursed.

by Anonymousreply 57June 13, 2023 4:04 AM

This happened near my friend Janice’s home in Vermont; here is her nearly 1st hand account:

Matthew (Janice’s friend) was at his auto shop. A client was dropping her car off and turned into Matt’s parking lot pulling in front of Treat Williams on his motorcycle.

Matt saw the whole thing. It was bad. Treat told Matt he was taking his sons motorcycle for a test drive. Matt called 911 and helped Treat as much as he could until the rescue squad came. He was air lifted out to the hospital.

Matt knew him. He had worked on his motorcycle before. Treat literally flew off the motorcycle — just because a customer was dropping off her car and turned in front of him.

He said it seemed like it took forever for the squad to get there

Treat was pretty broken up. His body flew through the air and landed hard.

by Anonymousreply 58June 13, 2023 4:05 AM

He was slated to appear as the CBS CEO Bill Paley in "Feud: Capote's Women" later this year. I wonder if they had already finished shooting.

When I think of him, I always think of the Michelle Pfeiffer movie, The Deep End of the Ocean. It was one of those Lifetime-type movies that ended up in theaters back in the 90s. It was based on a good novel, but the movie didn’t turn out so well. It’s okay, Whoopi Goldberg is in it too. He plays the father.

Mr. Williams died on Monday after an S.U.V. crashed into his motorcycle in Dorset, Vt., the Vermont State Police said in a statement.

The crash occurred in the late afternoon near the Vermont-New York State border.

The Vermont State Police said that a southbound S.U.V. attempting to turn left into a parking lot drove into the path of Mr. Williams’s northbound Honda motorcycle, adding that Mr. Williams was “unable to avoid a collision and was thrown from his motorcycle.”

Mr. Williams, who was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, suffered critical injuries and was pronounced dead at a medical center in Albany, N.Y., after being airlifted there, the state police said. The 35-year-old man whose vehicle hit Mr. Williams was not hospitalized.

by Anonymousreply 89June 13, 2023 5:28 AM

R20, I hope he didn’t remember blocking you right before he lost control of the road. RIP Delicious Treat

by Anonymousreply 90June 13, 2023 5:29 AM

his success wasn’t always assured. After a movie he starred in flopped in 1980 — the comedy “Why Would I Lie?” — Mr. Williams started flying planes for a company in Los Angeles.

“I’d done eight films, none of which had been successful,” he told The New York Times in 1981. “I felt so out of control. I wasn’t working with people I wanted to work with. I was very frustrated.”

Mr. Williams eventually came back to show business

by Anonymousreply 91June 13, 2023 5:30 AM

Treat was also a pilot.

by Anonymousreply 92June 13, 2023 5:30 AM

Treat starred in one of my all-time favorite TV movies, "Bonds of Love." He played a mentally challenged man in a small town who falls in love with a woman who'd been around the block (Kelly McGillis). His brother was the law 'round those parts and wanted Treat at home watching cartoons and shit instead of fucking around with tramps. It's a camp classic chock full of horribly offensive quotes you can share with your friends.

Happy journeys, Treat.

by Anonymousreply 103June 13, 2023 8:32 AM

R62 Sure, Jan. We always get those posts in the threads about hot guys. Always reminds me of when Fox News claims "some people say" before uttering bullshit, as if that makes it true.

by Anonymousreply 104June 13, 2023 9:43 AM

I saw Mr. Williams on stage as Henry II, in "The Lion in Winter." He was fine/good and it was special seeing an actor with his fame acting in Stockbridge, MA. But like some other well-known actors I know from TV and movies, I never felt I was watching Henry, but Treat Williams acting as Henry.

Jayne Atkinson played Eleanor and for me she's more of a character actor, so I watched Eleanor and left behind Jayne's character from the TV show "24" - which was how I knew her as an actor.

The play and production were fine overall, but man I love the movie, didn't leave loving the play.

BTW - Dorset, VT where Treat lived is a beautiful area, near Manchester, VT which is a low-key, but very pricey get away for the rich.

And if you know the actor Dan Butler (Bulldog on the sitcom Frasier), he will be in the play Misery this summer in Dorset, VT. Butler and his husband have resided in the area for years.

This is so sad. He was a fine actor, and seemed to be in-demand. That’s usually a good sign that he was a good person as well as a talented professional.

He was one of those actors who seemed to crop up in everything I watched during the nineties. I remember him especially fondly from starring alongside the gorgeous Billy Zane in The Phantom. I think the movie was a bomb, but I really liked it!

His death is shocking, but I’m glad that he seemed to have a happy life, right up until its swift end.

by Anonymousreply 108June 13, 2023 10:54 AM

R89, The State Police statement makes no sense. The actual accident seems to have been when Vehicle A---the SUV---turned into the lane of the oncoming Vehicle B---the motorcycle.

IOW, it could not accurately be described as Vehicle A "crashed into" Vehicle B, which description is in the State Police statement TWICE.

Vehicle B slammed into Vehicle A. The motorcycle hit the SUV.

by Anonymousreply 109June 13, 2023 11:02 AM

This was probably the site of the accident

I assume the southbound car simply didn’t see the northbound motorcycle and turned across the lane into the lot like it wasn’t there.

Sigh. Was he the victim of delusional thinking ('Gonna get on this awesome huge HAWG and RIIIIIIIIDE!) that comes with the male climacteric? So many old coots think they're the studs they may have been in their 20s and 30s and have no business riding motorcycles or 'slaying' a guitar on stage, or going after ridiculously too-young love interests because they still think they have it. In any case, regrettable.

by Anonymousreply 147June 13, 2023 2:47 PM

I don’t think riding a motorcycle on those smooth, beautiful, nearly empty roads of Vermont is showing off.

by Anonymousreply 150June 13, 2023 3:01 PM

[quote]I saw him on Broadway in the Pirates of Penzance. He had real charisma and talent.

I saw him years ago in The Glass Menagerie at the Kenyon Festival Theatre, just after Paul Newman got behind the KFT program. The GM is not one of my favorite plays, but you could tell he was something special (if I recall, Amanda Plummer was Laura and she was just weird).

by Anonymousreply 151June 13, 2023 3:05 PM

My brother rode motorcycles and ended up in traction for 6 months. Cars turning left in front of motorcycles because they don't see them is one of the most common causes of crashes.

by Anonymousreply 152June 13, 2023 3:41 PM

Can you imagine being the lady who killed him?

by Anonymousreply 153June 13, 2023 3:56 PM

Some are reporting a 35 year old male was the driver of the SUV.

by Anonymousreply 154June 13, 2023 4:02 PM

He had a star turn in one of the better episodes of Law and Order SVU - he played a famous football player Ala Frank Gifford who keeps sleeping with under age girls but obviously has brain disorder from his years playing football - his wife was exasperated and so was his lawyer Andre Bragher. That episode seems to play once a week. He is very good as he gets increasingly confused on the stand. …. But he will always be Berger to me.

by Anonymousreply 155June 13, 2023 4:05 PM

He was in Over There! and Grease on stage in his early 20's. He worked with Travolta before Travolta hit it big, and I mean he was 1000 times hotter.

by Anonymousreply 156June 13, 2023 4:17 PM

I also loved him since my older brother and his friends took me to see "Hair." I know it is a flawed movie (big flop, IIRC), but it always gets me.

I'm reminded from these posts that I saw Treat onstage several times, in OVER HERE!, ONCE IN A LIFETIME, a musical version of TREASURE ISLAND at Manhattan Theatre Club, SPEED THE PLOW at Williamstown and at the Long Wharf Theatre in New Haven as Tom in Glass Menagerie with Joanne Woodward. Strange (or sad?) that Paul Newman had seen his Tom a couple of times (Kenyon ^^^) but still cast John Malkovich as Tom in his film of the play.

I think Treat was a better film actor. Onstage he was rather forgettable.

"Did not see" doesn't mean "wasn't visible." People on motorcycles and pedestrians are visible (unless there's a lighting issue). The problem is that people in cars are looking out for ... other cars.

As a car driver, I'm guilty of this, too. I'm looking out for other cars, not motorcyclists and pedestrians. I really have to remind myself to look out for everything.

R164, NS, S.

Here's another comparison: President Biden just the other day tripped on a stage sandbag.

Was the sandbag "not visible"? No! Of course it was visible! But not noticeable if you are not expecting it to be there; not noticeable if you are thinking of your goal; and not noticeable, to reiterate, if the object is way below your line of vision.

by Anonymousreply 173June 13, 2023 9:23 PM

Treat Williams' cameo in The Empire Strikes Back is as one of the Rebel soldiers outside the Hoth base, waiting for the Empire to attack. It's just before the giant Imperial Walkers arrive.

by Anonymousreply 181June 13, 2023 11:01 PM

R171 I have to disagree. If you watch the video again, you can see Biden was surrounded by people, including his security detail. I doubt even if he did look down to his side he would've even noticed the sandbag since so many people were standing around it and 'hiding it'. It's not like it was an open space and it was in his line of vision, but he just wasn't expecting it to be as close as it was. That stage was crowded with people.

by Anonymousreply 182June 13, 2023 11:39 PM

Amanda Plummer in A TASTE OF HONEY - wasn't that her NY debut? At that point nobody realized she'd be giving the same eccentric performance in everything she did.

Treat Williams was “alert” and talking to paramedics before succumbing to his injuries from a motorcycle crash on Monday, a witness said.

“He was totally alert, answering questions,” Matt Rapphahn, the owner of Long Trail Auto, which is adjacent to the crash site in Dorset, Vermont., told the Daily Mail on Wednesday.

Rapphahn said he was standing right outside his shop when the accident occurred.

“I saw Treat go flying through the air,” he recalled, adding that the Everwood star was wearing a helmet. “The tire was still spinning.”

Williams was flown to Albany Medical Center in New York, where he was pronounced dead at the age of 71, reports Page Six.

I went to dinner with him several times and when the check came … well let’s just say he didn’t live up to his name.

by Anonymousreply 273June 25, 2023 6:38 AM

He had an "old guys rule" moment...thought he could handle a motorcycle...ended in tears.

by Anonymousreply 274June 25, 2023 8:07 AM

You were there, were you, R274? Or did someone tell you that he admitted to that before he died?

by Anonymousreply 275June 25, 2023 8:53 AM

The SUV turned IN FRONT OF HIM.

What about "unavoidable crash" do you ranters about his age, the "male climacteric," and "old coots" NOT UNDERSTAND??

by Anonymousreply 276June 25, 2023 10:02 AM

Just from current photos I totally see him on a motorcycle. I mean he wasn't George Burns who I couldn't see on a motorcycle at 30.

by Anonymousreply 277June 25, 2023 10:42 AM

Prince of the City had some sleeper potential when it was 1st released because it had its supporters.

I tried to watch it last year for the 1st time and, erm, it seems pretty dated. Looks like a tv movie. Treat is not wholly convincing as a...tough guy cop or whatever he was supposed to be. He didn't quite anchor the film.

But he was great in other things, like Hair. And a total DILF. Well, not anymore.

RIP TREAT

R280, I doubt if r137 is implying in the least that he is somehow bizarrely unaware of "normal car" accidents. His single declaration stands by itself.

In any case, your offering but one example is hardly anything worth a "Just sayin'."

SUVs are shit. They're huge and block vision. I don't care how many you own.

by Anonymousreply 286June 25, 2023 11:21 PM

Did you even bother to read the article R285?

"The number of deaths involving automated vehicles is small compared with the overall number of traffic deaths in the U.S. Nearly 43,000 people were killed on U.S. roads last year, the highest number in 16 years, after Americans returned to the roads as the pandemic eased. Authorities blamed reckless behavior such as speeding and driving while impaired by drugs or alcohol for much of the increase."

R310, You mean, Treat Williams was killed by a fag?

by Anonymousreply 311September 26, 2023 10:31 PM

From R310’s article:

“According to a police affidavit, witnesses told police that William's motorcycle hit the vehicle and he was ejected. Williams, who was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, hit the windshield of the Honda Element and then flew off, landing on the pavement with severe injuries. He was treated at the scene and then removed to the Manchester Fire Department, where he was airlifted to Albany Medical Center. Williams succumbed to his injuries shortly before 7 p.m.”

Who the hell can see clearly anyone around them in one of those behemoths let alone a man on a motorcycle. And how does some podunk festival theater director afford and maintain such an expensive monstrosity. A rich boyfriend, family or he's using festival funds.

by Anonymousreply 314September 27, 2023 5:16 AM

R314, Production was discontinued in 2011.

“Why was Honda Element discontinued?

But after an initial sales surge, the Element aged quickly, analysts said. “The Element was never significantly updated in its nine-year history, so it couldn't stand the competition from Scion xB, Kia Soul, Nissan Cube and others,” said Michelle Krebs, an analyst with Edmunds.com, the auto information company.“
