My temples are so gray…I’ve dyed my hair in the past, but it looks so artificial. So I’m not doing it again.

by Anonymousreply 2June 11, 2023 10:54 PM

Virtually every actor over 50. But they can afford top colorists and if you start early enough, and do it correctly, it looks natural.

I’m 56 and starting to get some silver in my hair. My stylist keeps saying if I am going to do it, I should start now. I don’t think I want to make that commitment though.

Watching golf right now and Rory McIroy, who is in his 40s looks sexier with his graying temples. Same with Sergio Garcia. It balances out their baby faces.

by Anonymousreply 3June 11, 2023 10:55 PM

Jon Hamm

by Anonymousreply 4June 11, 2023 10:57 PM

Bruce Springsteen finally stopped and looks much better gray.

by Anonymousreply 5June 11, 2023 10:57 PM

I have said this before, and I'll say it again:

Don't bother dyeing your hair. Use "Just For Men" Control GX shampoo (and conditioner) hair color. It is not a dye. You use it just as you do shampoo. It gradually colors your hair, but shades of your natural hair color shows though including some of the gray if you want to leave to some of the gray and here and there.

It's a very natural hair color and looks NOTHING like dye on your hair. It's a gradual change, and you don't go all black hair all over your head all at once. You decide daily as shampoo your hair. And since it's so gradual, it's virtually unnoticeable as your hair changes to your natural brunette or blond depending on your natural color. The gray slowly goes away. See picture of the product:

Genuine question, R6 - if it changes the colour of the hair and it’s not dye, what is it?

by Anonymousreply 8June 11, 2023 11:29 PM

George Conway

by Anonymousreply 9June 11, 2023 11:30 PM

It is a dye, R8.

by Anonymousreply 10June 11, 2023 11:32 PM

Much as i love him, Colin Farrel. It actually ages him.

by Anonymousreply 11June 11, 2023 11:33 PM

Ted Lasso. He would’ve looked better with some grey.

by Anonymousreply 12June 11, 2023 11:34 PM

I think Jimmy Dore dyes, but I prefer him grey

George Chakiris owns this thread.

by Anonymousreply 14June 11, 2023 11:37 PM

How sexist of you, OP.

by Anonymousreply 15June 11, 2023 11:39 PM

R14, agreed!

Robert Redford

by Anonymousreply 18June 12, 2023 12:14 AM

Redford wears a hairpiece, doesn’t he?

by Anonymousreply 19June 12, 2023 12:29 AM

Probably. Real or not, it’s a horrid orange color.

by Anonymousreply 20June 12, 2023 12:32 AM

Redford's hair looks terrible

by Anonymousreply 21June 12, 2023 12:37 AM

I would add that the Control GX for beards is a little more aggressive as it is formulated for more coarse facial hair. I use it to darken the facial hair and then just lather it up into what's left of my skull hair.

But yeah, it is still so much more subtle than regular JFM.

by Anonymousreply 22June 12, 2023 12:46 AM

I dye my eyebrows with that just for men shit. They get fucking snow white and look odd because my hair is still dark brown lol.

by Anonymousreply 23June 12, 2023 1:06 AM

Betty White wanted her ashes thrown on him, R18.

by Anonymousreply 24June 12, 2023 1:17 AM

Trump!

by Anonymousreply 25June 12, 2023 1:17 AM

That's a good thing to do, R23. I notice that men, even famous guys, don't pay that much attention to their eyebrows. Fuller / darker eyebrows look good on men, IMO.

by Anonymousreply 26June 12, 2023 1:18 AM

Jamie Raskin.

by Anonymousreply 27June 12, 2023 1:30 AM

Brad Pitt but he'd look good even if he didn't.

by Anonymousreply 28June 12, 2023 1:50 AM

R27, that’s fucking rude. A pox on you.

and women?

by Anonymousreply 34June 12, 2023 4:07 AM

Me! And I’m not ashamed. I was prematurely gray and almost completely gray by 35. People said I looked distinguished. By 47 my hair was white and nobody was saying I looked distinguished. So I get my hair colored grey. Not even a very dark grey. I absolutely won’t go brown because my hair was so dark it was almost black (which is weird because it was almost blond it was so light when I was three) and I’d look like Giuliani if I did.

So I get my hair colored grey and it’s painted on instead of an all over color so there are little bits of white poking out. I have a really great stylist.

It looks more natural on me than pure white hair does. And I’m sure someone will say that they could clock it from a mile away, but I don’t care. It’s the same color as more guys my age than it was before. And it ‘s shiny!

I don’t regret it at all. I think most people wouldn’t suspect a 51 year old guy would color his hair gray and they don’t think twice about it.

by Anonymousreply 35June 12, 2023 7:16 AM

David Muir.

Unleash the salt and pepper, DTM!

by Anonymousreply 36June 12, 2023 7:18 AM

R8. Well, JFM shampoo-in hair color probably is a dye. But it's different and much more subtle. It doesn't dye your hair all at once. It's very gradual so your natural hair color generally remains. It colors only the gray.

by Anonymousreply 37June 12, 2023 8:47 AM

I don’t have a lot of grey, even at 66, but, starting this past winter, my high-priced stylist tints my hair every 8 weeks. A very natural look.

by Anonymousreply 38June 12, 2023 11:02 AM

That’s what your friends tell you to your face: so natural!

That’s not what they tell us when your in the restroom.

by Anonymousreply 39June 12, 2023 11:19 AM

Please don't. It doesn't make you look younger, it makes you look as if you cannot get to terms with how old you are. It's like wearing clothing made for teenagers at 50. If you think people won't find you attractive with 50: they will find you even less attractive when you cannot accept yourself and the fact that we all get older.

by Anonymousreply 40June 12, 2023 11:58 AM

There's a lot of old school talk informing most of this discussion. It reminds me of such talk in the hair transplant context. As if modern-day hair transplants look anything like those from back in the day.

by Anonymousreply 41June 12, 2023 1:21 PM

As I approach sixty, I’m noticing that my eyebrows are thinning. I put castor oil on them but it’s not working.

by Anonymousreply 42June 12, 2023 1:36 PM

Jason Bateman's face looks like a raisin, I assume he has a great colorist

by Anonymousreply 43June 12, 2023 1:40 PM

Not me!

by Anonymousreply 44June 12, 2023 3:51 PM

R43 Bateman's marriage is the same as Bob Hope's and Alec Baldwin's. A prison.

He's married to a fame whore who runs his life, picks his clothes, and forces him to work constantly so she can stay celebrity-adjacent. She has no contribution of her own to make, but she tarts him up like a rental Ken Doll, reads every awful script sent his way, and says "He'll take it!"

by Anonymousreply 45June 12, 2023 4:23 PM

^ Bateman's wife would've been addicted to fame at an early age. Her father is Paul Anka.

by Anonymousreply 46June 12, 2023 4:42 PM

I'm pretty sure Jason Bateman wears a hair piece or system R43. It doesn't move much.

by Anonymousreply 47June 12, 2023 4:46 PM

R45 How on earth do you know?

by Anonymousreply 48June 12, 2023 4:51 PM

R48 Because he never shuts up about Amanda Anka running his life.

She picks his clothes ("She likes me in something a little tighter than I'd buy"). She picks his roles ("Amanda brought me this script and we talked it out"). Listen to his douchebag podcast. It's all in there.

by Anonymousreply 49June 12, 2023 5:16 PM

Tom Cruise looks awful

by Anonymousreply 50June 12, 2023 5:36 PM

I don’t think it is old school, r41, i have nothing against hair plugs or even dying you hair as a matter of principle. But i think the dying can age you. A colleague of mine has floppy dark hair, not a white hair in sight. He is 55 or so, and his face meets that, but the hair highlights his older face instead of making him look younger , as intended.

I do think, unlike women, we are not used too getting used to men dying their hair. It is maybe a little unfair but it is what it is. Or maybe men hair dyes should just get better and less obvious.

by Anonymousreply 51June 12, 2023 9:07 PM

R51, I absolutely agree that dyeing one’s hair too dark can make you look older. You need to be conscious of your skin tone so that the contrast with the hair doesn’t create an unnatural appearance. That’s why I would never recommend at-home products. For natural looking results, best to leave it to the hair coloring professionals.
