I lean towards more hot firefighters but these are kinds of questions that keep me up at night.

Besides the fact that those jobs attracts jocks and more overtly masculine, blue-collar type guys; cops and fire fighters, at least in NYC, can retire after 20 years - so most are fairly young, (45 being the usual retirement age) thus as a group they are prone to be hotter. Firemen need to stay in shape because of the physical demands of the job, but these days more younger guys are into keeping fit - thus less fat donut cops, so again - more hotness.

When cops get out of "recruit" status, they're young, they've been doing physical training, and their uniforms fit them well.

Within a few years, they put on weight and their uniforms get tight - not in a good way (Chief Wiggam's uniform comes to mind). Whenever I see movies where middle-aged cops are wearing well-fitted uniforms (not tight), it looks unrealistic to me.

Cops age quickly. Yes, they're able to retire relatively young (40s or 50s).

I knew this cop that was attractive and such a whore. When I used to see him around town, he was friendly and would talk if we ran into each other. Over the years, he has fallen apart, looks-wise. I saw him at the supermarket and was going to say hi, but I think he purposely avoided saying hi to me. I think he's embarrassed about how he looks, now.

Cops can be real a-holes. Firefighters are a lot nicer. Their job is only to save lives not give out tickets. I almost hooked up with one but it didnt happen. I've never dated a law enforcement officer, but I know a few. I have a cousin who is married to a cop (now retired NYPD). He 's cute, an incredibly nice guy, smart, and interesting.

Have a friend who did undercover work in a town that underwent a renaissance of sorts, when gays and lesbians moved in. Unfortunately, on the other side of the tracks (literally), the town remained depressed. I guess it would depend on the jurisdiction. Where I was living, maybe they had some type of annual physical exam. But who knows how stringent the standards / exams were. I just know that there were obviously overweight cops.

My sister dated a cop for a couple of years (he's the father of my niece) and she said he told her that with all of the horrible things they see on a daily basis, it's difficult for them to be very social. I live in a small town where you'd think the local cops would all be bald and overweight. Well, there's one who's, yes, bald, but is IMHO hot as fuck.

I had to read police reports, as part of my job. (I've read hundreds of reports.) I also met some of the report writers (cops). This is probably a very DL attitude, but when you read how some of these guys write, it's such a turn-off. R73, really? My cousin was in the Army and he has always been borderline fat. He had really good posture and a loud voice, so that helps, but he’s always overweight.

Regarding the Army and fatness. You would have a weigh in when you had you PT test. If you were overweight they sent you to the fatty class. The first thing the fatty class would do would be to caliper you and take measurements. So you can be overweight and pass. If you have certain measurements that are large. The primary one being if you had a fat neck. It somehow helped you pass the measurements. I can't remember or explain their equation. I was borderline fit-fat but I always passed the measurement and caliper stuff. The range of how much you could weigh would change dramatically as you got older. When you reached the age that you were obviously going to be a lifer it would be much easier to pass. That's why a lot of higher ranking individuals can be fat. Like say at 32 your max weight at 6'4", which I am would be say 200lb. At 33 it would be like 220. and so on. But when you are in the Army, at a young age, they are pretty strict. Standards have always fluctuated though with the ease or difficulty in recruiting.
