Here is the text of the indictment. This deserves its own thread. Let’s discuss all the juicy details.
So much detail. The case seems irrefutable. How will any one defend or excuse this stuff?
by Anonymous | reply 1 | June 9, 2023 6:45 PM |

Looking around, I'm seeing lawyers saying this case lives and dies in voir dire. If they can root out the redhats, which are crawling all over the jury pool in Florida, it's a done deal. And the reverse is also true -- let one redhat slip by and the case is dead.
But in order for Smith do be able to do that, you need a judge who'll be generous with the strike process. So not a Trump sympathiser.

[quote]Is it just me or has the response from the GOP been muted so far?
In what is becoming a now all-too-familiar trend, former President Donald Trump’s far-right supporters have threatened civil war after news broke Thursday that the former president was indicted for allegedly taking classified documents from the White House without permission.
“We need to start killing these traitorous fuckstains,” wrote one Trump supporter on The Donald, a rabidly pro-Trump message board that played a key role in planning the January 6 attack on the Capitol. Another user added: “It's not gonna stop until bodies start stacking up. We are not civilly represented anymore and they'll come for us next. Some of us, they already have.”

Romney Statement on Reports of Indictment
WASHINGTON—U.S. Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT) today issued the following statement on reports of the indictment of former President Trump:
“Like all Americans, Mr. Trump is entitled to the presumption of innocence. The government has the burden of proving its charges beyond a reasonable doubt and securing a unanimous verdict by a South Florida jury.
“By all appearances, the Justice Department and special counsel have exercised due care, affording Mr. Trump the time and opportunity to avoid charges that would not generally have been afforded to others.
“Mr. Trump brought these charges upon himself by not only taking classified documents, but by refusing to simply return them when given numerous opportunities to do so.
“These allegations are serious and if proven, would be consistent with his other actions offensive to the national interest, such as withholding defensive weapons from Ukraine for political reasons and failing to defend the Capitol from violent attack and insurrection.”

It’s what brought us Roller Nazi and a bunch of White House interns and staffers under Dump. They see no ethical dilemma in lying or obfuscating in order to reach their goal in the name of (White) Christianity. They’ll do and say anything - it’s practically bred into them.

This is bigger than the media realizes. There's no doubt in my mind that Trump during the whole time he was POTUS, was selling classified information to foreign operatives. China,,Russian, the Saudis, etc.Not just governments, but individuals. And when he left the WH knowing that he had lost the election, he took with him, the kind of marketable information that would "cushion" his retirement. And Jared Kushner is up to his eyeballs in this. Jared is now publicly implicated in the betrayal of Jamal Kashoggi which resulted in his death by dismemberment. Ertogan had the information and used it to extort Trump on policy issues related to Syria. So it wasn't just elling information it was the domino effect of giving the information away. The clumsy rope-a-dope nonsense with Zelensky was the Trump and Giuliani shit show, but it exposed how they operate.

r162, as of now, she's confirmed to be behind the bench for Trump's arraignment on Tuesday. Whether it's only for that procedure or she'll sit for the whole trial, I don't know.
This isn't wishful thinking on my part, but, remote as it may seem, I think she herself may recuse, or, ask that the case be re-assigned.
She got her ass-handed to her in a very public way when her decisions were overturned the first time. That had to have hurt, both professionally and personally.
If speculated about in the best possible light for her, maybe she herself thinks she may be in over her head with this case.
On the other hand, that could be all wrong and she can't wait to put her manicured thumb on the scale for Trump.
Pure surmise on my part, but I'm thinking, if she wants off the bench for this, the advantage of her asking the Chief Judge that it be re-assigned is that she can spin it as the best appearance for the case.
On the other hand, if she recuses herself, she'll have to provide the reason for it and I'm sure she doesn't want to do that.

Corcoran, Trump's attorney, who was up to his eyelids with the boxes of stolen docs, calls in a young, female attorney to falsely sign-off and certify complete compliance with the subpeona.
Now, even though she may not have enough sense to guard herself from herself by recusing, doesn't one of those older experienced judges have the integrity to say that this case needs a more experienced judge, I'll zip on the black robe?

It's because they are young and stupid.

Early in this thread there’s a discussion of how Trump and his people will excuse these charges…one of the most stunning (even for MAGAts) excuses I read on twitter and later another version on freerepublic was “These countries, including the US, already knew what their military/nuclear capabilities were, so it’s not a big deal that Trump had these documents.”
None of them have actual read the indictment, nor will they. And many believe that the photos included, like the ballroom stage and bathroom photos, were taken during the raid. They weren’t. They were taken by Trump employees. This willful ignorance and head in the sand attitude is not going to change. It’s the mentality of his supporters. The same people who scream and yell about “Do your own research! I’ve done mine!” on COVID vaccines, are the same people who won’t even bother reading an indictment of their guy. How do I know? My fucking partner in his middle aged-worked hard/got some money now-midlife crisis is turning into one. So what are we to do, R182? Are we to do nothing as a small but very vocal minority subject the majority to its will? I'm still stunned by that Kari Lake tweet of which she followed it up with "I meant what I said." These people are calling for violence. It seems to me that those with level-heads are choosing to remain quiet. I so hope that I am wrong but with this being PRIDE month along with various festivities surrounding it I'm bracing myself for news of a mass shooting and other violence.
Re your partner. I'm interested in discussion and not just idle curiosity but what do you attribute to this change that you see overcoming him/her? There's got to be (or I would assume) some root cause to all of this.

IMO one of the most damaging pieces of this is the human intelligence that would be exposed. Going back to Jared, he betrayed dozens of people in Saudi Arabia who were "close to" the U.S. and sharing critical information. The same thing happened with the Russians. Don't know if Jared was involved, but a significant number of people who were part of our intelligence network got disappeared in Eastern Europe, etc. in the first couple of years of the Trump presidency. And advances in our weapons systems is tightly controlled so that's bad shit too. The other thing is that the speculative stuff like "if we were going to attack Iran here's how we'd do it" is very important. So Trump fucked us big time. Personally. They ought to send him to Bedminster to "rest" and serve him a poison pill. I wish someone from the Intelligence community, maybe in another country would expose Trump. Those people know shit too.
Asfor that judge in Florida, she is bad news. And never underestimate the value of "procedural stuff." It can sink a case before it ever goes to trial. I'm paranoid enough to wonder who is in charge of that circuit. Ev ery Supreme Court justice is responsible for overseeing a circuit. We now have 13 circuits, but which Supreme oversees Florida?
by Anonymous | reply 185 | June 10, 2023 3:57 PM |

R184: I didn’t mean we aren’t to do anything. We have to keep doing what we’re doing. Facts, numbers, proof, criminal charges, electing good people, treating people equally, etc. It’s more of the belief that these people have to hit rock bottom and we can’t change them-they have to do the changing themselves (but probably won’t). And we’re still waiting on that rock bottom for Trump. It’s a personality defect, I think. Stubborn, obstinate, oppositional defiance-disorder kind of defect. And I f it’s not Trump, it’s vaccines, religion, racial bias/injustice, abortion, whatever. They WANT to do the opposite of what is considered mainstream, what is considered “left” and even “center-right” (like Romney). And violence is the norm now. There is more than enough room in their heads to make excuses for ANY kind of mass shooting to be the fault of the left. It will never be their fault. Ever. It’s heartbreaking.
As for my partner, he voted for Hillary. Then something, probably excessive Facebook/Twitter time coupled with getting in touch with all his old school mates (who are wealthy) during lockdowns. He saw their political shit posted on FB/twitter, compared it with his current (some are now former) friends who are more mainstream, and decided which road to travel.
When confronted - I mean really confronted - he admits he’s just sick of seeing “Black Lives Matter”, Muslim bans, illegal immigration, and trans rights and “enough is enough”. I think we all get a bit weary of particular interest groups and their problems. That’s normal for humans. But he’s made it personal. Ironically, he’s also gay of course, and Jewish and extremely alert to any hint of homophobia or anti-semitism from anyone - but only on the left. Even if it doesn’t exist. And he believes that the left is devoutly anti-Israeli/pro-Palestinian which complicates things even more. Three Ivy League degrees and boarding school and this is the result.
Yeah, I’m winding down the relationship. It’s not worth it. Even after 20 years. Sorry for rambling.

This is what happens when you temporize and have this gradualistic approach. Biden should have dealt with the court by now. He can kill the filibuster and expand the court. And honestly Roberts and Thomas should have been forced to retire. If he'd done it earlier this year the shouting would be over by now, and the indictments wouldn't feature. Honestly I would insist Thomas recuse h imself due to his current messes. And I would bring charges against Ginny. That would definitely distract him. Too many facist sympathizers in key jobs.

Key excerpt shows that the more things change, the more they stay the same…
On June 26, 1968, Johnson nominated Fortas as Chief Justice of the United States, to succeed Earl Warren, who had submitted his resignation effective with the confirmation of a successor.Anticipating that conservative members of the Senate would have concerns about Fortas's liberal opinions, Johnson simultaneously announced that he would fill the vacancy created by Fortas's elevation with United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit Judge Homer Thornberry of Texas. The propriety of the coordinated resignation-nomination on the eve of the November presidential election was called into question by Republican candidate Richard Nixon and the media. By the time the Judiciary Committee opened hearings on the nomination on July 11, bipartisan opposition to the nomination (among Republicans and Southern Democrats) had become well organized. Fortas was the first sitting associate justice, nominated for chief justice, ever to appear before the Senate. He underwent four days of questioning about his legal career, judicial philosophy, and his relationship with President Johnson. Judiciary Committee chairman James Eastland, a Missippippi segregationist, told Johnson he "had never seen so much feeling against a man as against Fortas".
Antisemitism likely played a role in the confirmation battle. Afterward, Eastland reportedly said "After [Thurgood] Marshall, I could not go back to Mississippi if a Jewish chief justice swore in the next president."[32] The National Socialist White People's Party undertook a phone campaign that summer, condemning Fortas as a "despicable Jew with a 'red' record that smells to high heaven." Such attacks were soundly condemned by most senators. Even so, the White House began alerting the press to growing antisemitic opposition against Fortas, and used the issue to garner support for him in the Senate.[33] Fortas himself called the effort to defeat his nomination, "anti-Negro, anti-liberal, anti-civil rights, [and] anti-Semitic."

A great irony, in Biden’s favor: Presidential elections are typically a referendum on the current Administration…something current vs. something new. Biden has the advantage of making this a referendum on a prior Administration that’s already been rejected. Something current vs. something old. It’s a pretty good bet as to the outcome.

You're kidding me coming here to spout that bullshit, R224! Have you ever considered that there are simply just more people and more people who are eligible to vote that exercised that right? AND, that Trump was SO awful that voters came out in DROVES? I'm with R228. I believe that most of that supposed 75 million were "questionable" votes! Don't bother asking me for proof. If Republicans feel that the election was stolen, I can feel the way that I do without offering up a scintilla of evidence to support my position just the same as Republicans. I believe Republicans were trying to "pull a Chris Christie" event and were FLOORED by the number of votes that Biden got. I think they thought at 75 million they would have a massive landslide on their hands. Which leads me to my next aggravation statement spouted by the unwashed Republican ilk re Black voter suppression and that it doesn't exist because the number of Black people and other minorities that voted...
I have personally met 5 Black individuals who had NEVER voted in their lives that made it their business to register to vote and was determined to vote because Trump was SO AWFUL! I'll NEVER forget the gentleman (who cleaned my offices) and I guess needed to talk to someone, that admitted that he had not been the best father for his children but was SO frightened by Trump and the impact that he could do to his children's future was determined to register to vote and vote. He did and even lost some pay in order to vote. He said to me... "I should have done better but if nothing else I have to this for my children and grandchildren"
So, don't come here with that bullshit that Trump got more votes than any other sitting president. Trump was SO AWFUL that people were determined to vote to be a part of helping stomp that bastard into the ground!

I was too young to vote, but I had a (handmade) Ferraro/Mondale sign on my bedroom door in 1984. Reagan was despicable and a murderer. by Anonymous | reply 245 | June 11, 2023 1:48 AM |
R241 Nafta had little to no worker protections, nothing for the environment, and a number of shortcomings I don't recall at the moment. But it was al ready in the works before Clinton even though it is laid at his doorstep because it was signed and enacted early in his presidency. As for Clinton, I like him, and I think he is masterful as a speaker . And no one can present the issues and make sense out of things the way he can, but he had some total failures in foreign policy as POTUS. And he really wasn't as Progressive as people assume. First, after the Reagan/Bush disaster, (Reagan was a terrible person and a terrible POTUS>.) a more conservative element of the Democratic Party gained traction. It was called the Democratic Leadership Council. It was the brainchild of Clinton, Dukakis, Blanchard of Michigan, and a number of other governors who felt the party had gone too far left and they wanted it to adopt a more centrist position. In other words tack to the Right. Clinton took positions as POTUS that frustrated a lot of progressive Dems. He had a huge falling out with Marian Wright Adelman's and her husband over his welfare reform initiatives, and dumped a wonderful candidate for the federal court, in Lani Guinier because she'd written papers as a judicial scholar that some deliberately misinterpreted. Lani was also a close personal friend. Ghosted. And yes, the Crime Bill had a lot of bad stuff in it. In order to get the GOP to support it. Whatever. If you want to, you can go back and check out the Clinton PResidency
by Anonymous | reply 246 | June 11, 2023 1:51 AM |
Honey, I remember the Clinton presidency very well without any prompting. I remember NAFTA very well. It wasn't perfect but it was acceptable to me. The Crime Bill was the best we could do at the time. I don't give a fuck about Lani Guinier. We were all sad to see those Welfare reforms and lots of other things besides. We don't wallow in them 25 years later for fuck's sake. This is why the "progressive left" is so fucking lame and full of shit. You don't know how to win.
You have to remember what it was actually like back then and how fucking BRILLIANT Bill Clinton was at A) running the country and B) setting up political triangulation that the Republicans could not beat. It was a good time in America and he was a great fucking president. All your silly bitching and moaning isn't going to change any of that. Fuck off.
Also, pedantic patronization is not your strong suit. I suggest you seek alternatives.
All your bitching and moaning and complaining

R247 NAFTA was basically outsourcing most of the US manufacturing jobs offshore to maximize corporate profits, which decimated many communities across the nation that build the towns economy around manufacturing companies. It was effectively a transfer of wealth from the lower and middle class the the richest 3%. Bill Clinton was a Republican wolf in Democrat sheep's clothing.

Trump lost the popular vote twice in a row. By very definition, he did not have the support of most of those who cast their votes in 2016 and 2020. Next year, Biden will get more votes than any sitting president in history as well, it's really not unusual for that record to be broken constantly, seeing how the US population is constantly increasing as well.

He was priming the pump.
You have to give Trump credit (at least I do) because he "read the room" with precision and accuracy. Silly me... I thought that at the bottom line we would all be for the health and well-being of the nation as a whole. Never, even in my most wildest dreams, did I ever think that there would be a party (or a group of people) more than willing to sacrifice the nation in a quest for power. That's why I no longer concern myself with Trump. He is who he is. My concerns and fears are about those who enabled him.
As the demographics change and are changing, I'm reminded of a statement said by the pundit Zerlina Maxwell...
"The problem with the USA White male is that the only way that he thinks that he can help the country is to RUN IT!"

The logistics of trying to put a former President into prison would be astronomical. He would have to have private quarters and so would all of his secret service. If we get that far he will probably be confined to one of his golf courses with no access to media at all.
Eventually they will have proof that Russia got Tromp elected and his name will be removed as one of our Presidents. If he was still living he would lose all benefits but he will be long gone when they prove it.
I know people want to see him go down big time but it won't happen. What people will get is to see the enablers go down and pay for what they supported.

At this point, he's running to "fix" his legal problems -- either by winning and pardoning himself (a dicey proposition but he might get this SC to agree that it can be done) or, more likely, cutting a deal to throw his support to another Republican candidate in exchange for a pardon.

I have a feeling that Trump is indeed looking to cut a deal. He's mentioned Nixon being paid $80M a couple of times (what he is talking about and where he got that figure from, I don't know) and a morning headline I saw this morning where he hinted that he is open to a deal if they want him to go away. He'll go away alright, but it will cost somebody.

No deals. If you let this p.o.s. off, there will be another, down the line. And the lax precedent will be set.
I don't care about "logistics". We have sent men to the surface of the moon. We have put apparatus in space, light years away.
"Can't lock up a former president"? BITCH, PLEASE. It has to be done!
He has to be housed securely, if even for his own safety and definitely for America's. He knows things that he will sell. He knows things that can be tortured out of him or seduced out of him. If he's kidnapped from some posh-ass prison or Maggot-Lardo, then America will have to negotiate his rescue. If anything like that happens then the sitting administration will be blamed for "losing" the most important political prisoner in our history.
So, no. When this fat, traitorous fuck is found guilty of espionage, he cannot NOT be incarcerated by the government, for the entirety of his miserable life. Unless they are going to execute him, which I am also fine with. But those are the only two options because of who he became when he was sworn in as 45.

Watching the Sunday shows, it seems the Republican response is going to be some combination of:
"Weaponization of the DOJ against a political rival."
"Selective prosecution; Bill, Hillary, Joe and Hunter should have all been charged with crimes and weren't."
"Republican voters overwhelmingly feel this is a political witch hunt." (As if what people believe has any relevance.)
No defense of Trump's crimes, although some denial that they're actually crimes, a la "The Presidential records doesn't say how long a President has before he has to return documents."

Here's is something to remember: Ideologically rigid people like the Christian Right, and the GOP extremists are stupid. But the leadership, guys like Mc Carthy, Jordan, etc. are irrelevant. We need to go after who is propping them up. And bear in mind it's more than one person or one group of people. So yes, Putin, MBS, Xi from China, but others as well.

Fox News Analyst Jonathan Turley painted a grave outlook for former President Donald Trump following the unsealed indictment alleging he violated the Espionage Act.
“The problem is, [Trump] has to run the table. All the government has to do is stick the landing on one count, and he could have a terminal sentence. We’re talking about crimes that have a ten or 20-year period as a maximum."
by Anonymous | reply 327 | June 12, 2023 1:34 PM |
I have to wonder. Let's say, for the sake of this discussion, that ...theoretically... Trump was conspiring with Russians and Saudis and whomever, selling our secrets or helping our adversaries gain advantage over us. He was making deals with Xi for licensing agreements and all kinds of shit, and in exchange helping Xi achieve his goals for China at our expense. (Yes we have some evidence of all this, but play with me here. ) So maybe some of the people, big powerful people, he consorted with don't want this to go further. They can't afford exposure. Maybe those people are just middlement for Putin, like Russian Oligarchs with their armies of hit men. So they decide Trump has to go. No trial. cut this off. Do you think there are people out there who think Trump is a huge liability and want to get rid of him?

You mean like the entire GOP?
The GOP establishment is TERRIFIED of him. They need his inbred, mouth-breathing followers to form a coalition with more traditional conservatives. If they whack Donald they risk having the MAGA base split off into their own party.

I guess he made a habit of collecting dirt on everyone since his grifting in NYC days (Pecker and the rag). So he already had eyes and ears out. It wasn’t too hard to get plenty of dirt on GQP scumbags in DC.
He’s blackmailing them. He also (allegedly) made the traitors who requested pardons put IN WRITING what crimes they wanted to be pardoned FOR.
They all live in terror of their secrets being exposed or being primaried from the right.

Trump is the guy who keeps threatening them with running 3rd party. He's been doing it for several years. That's why the less strident Republicans bend over for him. He also helps them raise money. Not because he shares in the fundraising, but because they can use their proximity to him to raise money. The machinery of most state Republican parties has been taken over by loonies loyal to Trump.

[quote]Aren't there more Republican voters (and those who would return back to the Republican party) than MAGAt Republicans? Wouldn't these people come out and vote for sensible Republicans rather than these extremes?
"Republicans are trapped in a Möbius strip of their own misery, a spin cycle of fuckery that they created and that they deserve. Republican elected officials are presumably so scared of alienating the base (and potentially becoming targets themselves) that they continue to support the albatross that is losing them elections and undermining our democracy. Trump has somehow managed to make supporting his fight against the law a litmus test for GOP candidates, so the already slim possibility of defeating him in a primary gets slimmer. He’s effectively being supported by the people who are supposed to be running against him.
With every indictment, the GOP base gets more activated by Trump, but the chasm between the base and the general electorate grows. Yes, the GOP is reaping what it sowed. But we all risk getting buried in the process."

Later there was the gay drug trap Gillum walked into which finished his political career (and almost his life- I don't think he was supposed to survive that).

Tom Nichols on Vance:
What do we call a man who turns on everything he once claimed to believe? For a practitioner of petty and self-serving duplicity, we use “sellout” or “backstabber.” (Sometimes we impugn the animal kingdom and call him a rat, a skunk, or a weasel.) For grand betrayals of weightier loyalties—country and faith—we invoke the more solemn terms of “traitor” or “apostate.”
But what should we call J. D. Vance, the self-described hillbilly turned Marine turned Ivy League law-school graduate turned venture capitalist turned Senate candidate? Words fail. His perfidy to his own people in Ohio is too big to allow him to escape with the label of “opportunist,” and yet the shabbiness and absurdity of his Senate campaign is too small to brand him a defector or a heretic.
My friend Preet Bharara, the former U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, tried to describe Vance recently and came up with “pathetic loser poser fake jerk,” but that is a lot of words. To distill the essence of Vance as a public figure, the word that enters my mind is an anatomical reference beginning with the letter a.

There are some guys who are stupid, gullible "true believers" and they a re the suspicious, paranoid types, who went along with Trump because they believed there was fraud. They subscribe to the "vast conspiracies " and would refuse to believe that 60 + cases were thrown out of court, and multiple credible sources said repeatedly, there was no fraud. These people are bad people. They are white supremacists, Christian Nationalists, Neo Nazis etc. But they were not part of the planning group that decided they would stay in power and over throw an election. There was the top tier including Trump, Rudy, those lawyers (Powell, Eastman, etc.) Meadows, Stone, Flynn, Bannon. There were the disciples who didn't care if Biden legitimately won, they weren't giving up power, like Jordan, MTG, Gaetz, etc. who supported the conspiracy and helped organize and promote, and wrangle members of Congress. And there were the "true believers," useful idiots, and fools like My Pillow, Mo Brooks, and Gosar, who are evil but couldn't find their way out of a paper bag. The only thing that makes sense to me is that Trump's got something truly horrific on him - the revelation of which would destroy what little is left of his reputation (and possibly put him in prison?)
by Anonymous | reply 437 | July 28, 2023 12:06 PM |
Just a chronology question, to be sure (and, I beg your pardon * words Trump will be saying to a POTUS one day*, I did read the entire initial indictment).
Did the criminal acts described in the superceding indictment happen before the search warrant was executed at Maga-Lardo or after?
I've been very busy and I haven't had a chance to read the latest indictment.

R438 No, and this is what really fucks Trump.
After he had received a subpoena to turn over the documents, he ordered the servers to be deleted and the computer room to be flooded. So that means he knew what he was doing was illegal and was trying to cover up his crimes.

r439, There's no mention of the pool flooding debacle. I read the whole 60 pages, it's a compelling narrative. Here are the 3 things that stand out, for me;
1.Fuckface kept telling his lawyers that Hillary got away with deleting the emails because she had a smart lawyer who deleted them for her, so they should make the documents disappear for him. "She's smart!".
2.TicTac courier Nauta met the maintenance guy at the property next door to MAL by walking through the bushes (I wasn't even AT Mar A Lardo that day). You want to get in to MAL? Just put on a seersucker suit and sashay through the bushes from the neighbor's yard. WTF???
3. No mention of the Secret Service. Don't these guys follow Trump around all day? Do they take a "see no evil" approach to crimes? IDK
by Anonymous | reply 443 | July 28, 2023 9:22 PM |
R443, re the Secret Service, I think they pretty much have to witness a crime to testify. They probably weren't in the room with Dump when Dump talked about the secret docs.

He's always been an idiot, but this whole thing really does have a kind of karmic cast, given he's not only being held accountable for crimes, but in other ways as well, by nature of the way things are playing out.
He's a predator (sexually and otherwise), a rapist, a homophobe, a transphobe, a misogynist, a virulent racist, & a classist (ditto Giuliani), who is currently being prosecuted by three intelligent, educated and fairly powerful Black women, and a Black man. I can't tell you how happy that makes me. If I could be there to watch them work on him, I absolutely would. And while I know it must be a fair process (The Law's definition, not Trump's) I hope the same groups (the poor, women and minorities) are represented in the jury selection.
Trump's laziness and habit of pressuring underlings to perform crimes for him, has also (finally) backfired spectacularly, at a time in which he 's facing the greatest consequences of his life. I swear it's like a karmic checklist. And I'm living for it.

You know, there is something incredibly infantile about this entire episode. I am in no way minimizing the criminality, but simply the way the whole thing transpired. He "steals" classified docs from the WH, brings them to Mar A Lago and hides them in toilets, storage rooms and vacant ballrooms. (on the stage.) He lies about it. They tell him they want them back. He stalls. And stalls. And stalls. They subpoena the docs. He stalls. Then he lies. He finally is served with a search warrant and the feds arrive. He lies. He stalls. He has other people lie. And stall. He has a lawyer lie and sign something that claims they have everything...but they don't. And now he is facing criminal charges and the little people who served him face charges...and they're all still lying and stalling. And it is entirely transparent. They remind me of little kids who close their eyes very tight and believe you can't see them.

R529 R530 She is not an idiot, she is a Trump lackey. Even as a circuit judge she is unqualified, and objectively way out of her league for such a high profile and complicated case. She had already faced a rebuke for how she mishandled and intervened in the previous Trump case.
by Anonymous | reply 531 | August 7, 2023 11:42 PM |
She’s a District Judge, R531, which is bad enough. She would be a disaster as a Circuit Judge.
by Anonymous | reply 532 | August 7, 2023 11:44 PM |
R532, it goes like this. the federal court system is divided into Circuits. Currently there are 13 Circuits. (Each Supreme Court Justice is assigned a Circuit to over see. Right now Biden would be perfectly justified in expanding the court to 13 Justices. But that's another thread.) Aileen Cannon was appointed as a federal Judge at the district level, SOuthern District of Florida. There are several districts within a Circuit. The 11th Circuit Court of Appeals oversees the Southern District of Florida. It's Entry level. If someone were to appeal her ruling it gets bumped up to the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals where usually a panel of Appeals Court Justices reviews it and may uphold her ruling or overturn it. (She got overturned and chastised last time she worked with Trump.) An Appeals Court ruling can be challenged too, and it then gets bumped up to the Supremes, if they accept the case. It is possible for a single Appeals Court Judge to review an appeal but usually it's a panel of three. Aileen Cannon is a lifetime appointment to the federal Court system and you can bet that if Trump ever got re-elected and was in the White House she would get promoted to an Appeals Court seat. With her ignorant MAGA ass. .
by Anonymous | reply 533 | August 8, 2023 12:59 AM |
The thing about Cannon is yes, she is ideologically rigid which makes her limited and on top of that she is incompetent. There's got to be something shady in her background and some Reporter needs to check her out. BUT. IMO she is getting advice and guidance with Trump. But the advice and guidance she is getting is probably from lawyers (and judges) who are just as ideologically rigid as she is . Look at Alito for example. He is dumb. So is Barrett so is Thomas. All these assholes who buy into that extremist doctrine are limited intellectually. They only have safety in numbers.
