TASTEFUL FRIENDS : Rod Stewart Bev Hills estate can be yours for just $70M

Rod Stewart is looking to unload his sprawling Bev Hills estate, and as the rock legend sang, every picture tells a story -- especially these shots of the mansion he's listing for a whopping $70 mil!!!

Real estate sources tell TMZ ... the 78-year-old icon is selling his expansive 3-story compound, located in one of the most esteemed gated enclaves, North Beverly Park.

Take a look around ... it comes with a screening room, library, family room, rec room, gym, hand-painted bar and a formal dining room that seats up to 20 people, and that's just a few of its amenities.

The new owners will also enjoy marble floors, elaborate wood paneling, crystal chandeliers and intricate moldings throughout the whole thing.

Step outside, and it's just as glamorous ... a pro-sized tennis court, which can be converted into a soccer field, an outdoor kitchen, a fireplace and an elaborate fountain.

His style of luxury is quite old school but the entire confection is not stodgy. It's fun and theatrical and sometimes classy and sometimes brassy and tacky. It does look like an old rocker's palace with the glamor.

I like the bar. I like the terrace with the yellow walls and ceiling.

by Anonymousreply 2June 6, 2023 9:34 PM

R1 I agree. It's one of the nicer celebrity BevHills mansions which has gone up for sale recently. It just may get the asking price.

I hope Adele doesn't decide to buy this one, too.

by Anonymousreply 3June 6, 2023 9:34 PM

Why would anybody with $70M want to purchase this pile? It *screams* Nouveau Riche and has all kinds of bad mojo associated with it.

by Anonymousreply 4June 6, 2023 9:37 PM

But why not just die in such a palace? Why unload it at his age? Does he no longer entertain?

by Anonymousreply 5June 6, 2023 9:37 PM

R4 For a huge tax write-off.

by Anonymousreply 6June 6, 2023 9:37 PM

I don't see a lot of "Nouveau Riche" tropes on display. Can you be specific?

by Anonymousreply 7June 6, 2023 9:37 PM

For example the terrace and all its furniture are in impeccable taste, as is the pool, very classical. What do you consider "nouveau riche" about this? Have you been in many elaborate mansions? I have. All over the Middle East, for example, royal palaces. All over London, Geneva, Paris, and the South of France. Spain and Italy. What is nouveau riche here? I'm curious.

In homes such as these I often wonder : Where do you put the Christmas Tree each year ? How do you decorate such a home for Christmas ?

Also, how much of this property actually gets used on a daily or weekly basis ?

by Anonymousreply 9June 6, 2023 9:45 PM

That small home gym, with the trellis work, homage to Elsie De Wolfe. Tacky Nouveau Riche don't generally look to Elsie De Wolfe, Dorothy Draper, and Syrie Maugham. Rod had some good decorators and has a good eye.

More money than taste.

by Anonymousreply 11June 6, 2023 9:46 PM

I wasn’t expecting to like it but I do. The green bar is awesome. It’s old Hollywood glamor with a modern twist.

by Anonymousreply 12June 6, 2023 9:49 PM

why is it that the Golden Age of Hollywood mansions are so much more beautiful than some of the more recent piles?

by Anonymousreply 13June 6, 2023 9:49 PM

Who was the California gay decorator who had his Christmas tree in its own room, up all year? Tony Duquette?

by Anonymousreply 14June 6, 2023 9:50 PM

R13 this is recent but Richard Landry style. He often gets it’s wrong but this was done nicely.

by Anonymousreply 15June 6, 2023 9:52 PM

Richard Landry's firm built this house?

by Anonymousreply 16June 6, 2023 9:58 PM

Bad mojo associated with it, R4? What bad mojo is linked to this estate?

by Anonymousreply 17June 6, 2023 10:02 PM

R16 it says so in the article plus you can tell from the exterior especially the roofline.

by Anonymousreply 18June 6, 2023 10:03 PM

My bad. I just looked at the pics. Landry houses now are MONSTROUS but this was before today's mega mega mega palaces and fauxteaux.

by Anonymousreply 19June 6, 2023 10:06 PM

That place is huge!

by Anonymousreply 20June 6, 2023 10:06 PM

The house that Michael Jackson died in was another Landry but it sits on such a small piece of land that it looks ridiculous. This is set on many acres which is appropriate for a large house.

by Anonymousreply 21June 6, 2023 10:14 PM

Huge place, pictured room are ugly. Price is obscene. My guess is it will whittle down quite a bit before it sells.

by Anonymousreply 22June 6, 2023 10:18 PM

Where will his US-based kids now live? his daughter and granddaughter (Benicio del Toro's kid) lived in the guest house. He has a ton of other kids who are around him all the time. I will say that Rod keeps his kids pretty close - although perhaps this is because he has to because they have no place else to go.

This is a great estate but he probably wants a smaller place in LA. He also has a huge spread in the UK where he stays part-time.

by Anonymousreply 23June 6, 2023 10:27 PM

Stewart has a big place in Palm Beach and another one in Hawaii. His useless children won't be homeless nor will they be "forced" to live in the UK in order to keep living on Daddy's money.

by Anonymousreply 24June 6, 2023 10:32 PM

The grounds I have to say are particularly nice, very pastoral and like an old-fashioned southern estate. Lots of trees.

by Anonymousreply 25June 6, 2023 10:33 PM

I went to look for a palace for sale. Found Le Château-Abbaye de Cassan, decaying pile in France. Not a palace but quite imposing.

I quite like this, the style is nice. I would be happy with something like this but in a much smaller more manageable package, with maybe some more chintz. Not everything is perfect but then in a place this size its not going to be. It does have can lights in the ceilings including some of the more ornate ones but that can be corrected

The exterior at the front is good too, the back not quite so much, but I've seen far worse on here.

Listing is with Michelle Oliver of Douglas Elliman but when I search the Douglas Elliman site I cant find the listing

Based on his properties alone he has money to burn. I never knew Rod was so incredibly loaded. Never really thought about it actually. But clearly he has enough money to support his kids and their kids and so on for generations to come.

by Anonymousreply 28June 7, 2023 8:57 AM

I don't drink, but I might if I had that amazing green bar.
