I watched the first episode out of boredom and because I loved Ugly Betty and thought it might capture some of that show's charm. Nope.

Biggest issue (among many)? The lead does nothing to earn his "time to shine" with Cattrall's character. She, a famous ex-moded-turned-mogul, just happens to walk into his counter in the mall or where ever. Pure chance. And he wows her in thirty seconds. By not really doing anything other than being a bitchy femme twink. And then boom. He has a job.

That might be the worst way to kick off a pilot I've ever seen. It wasn't funny, awkward, a challenge, ridiculous, over the top, the result of hard work, the result of him knowing where she might be and making sure he was there too, etc. She just walks in like any normal customer. And he serves her. That's it. That starts off the entire series. I wasn't expecting Breaking Bad, but that was just terrible.

Also, I think its cool he's nonbinary (or whatever). It totally fits this world. But I've never, ever met a somewhat hot gay bro who is remotely into nonbinary, stiletto wearing types. And the lead has two of those types into him in the pilot. But that's not that big of a deal, I guess. Just laughable unrealistic. And made me eyes roll more than a few times.

The main character, Marco, is the main problem. I don't think that the actor is bad, but the part is so stereotypical unreal and exaggerated that probably will destroy his short career. He is a combination of the entitlement and annoyance that Emily in Paris has been hated so much for, with the added element of him being an average boy that wears far too much make up and high heels landing an executive assistant job at a cosmetic firm, with no experience more than working part time on a make up counter and wearing makeup?! I know that there may be influencers in the world that survive from that, and every body hates them, so why make this kind of person the centre of a story?

Watching this series is painful, and I really hope that instead of hiring diversity advisors, they start hiring drama and mental health advisors. I am very concerned of the unrealistic message that these kind of shows send to our youth. The message that you are entitled to "success" just by wearing make up and "slay", that anyone with a little more experience who wants to guide you is considered an enemy, and that going around calling people "straight boy" or "white man" is something that is appropriate in the environment we live on.

I love Kim Cattrall but I got through less than 10 minutes ot this.

I tried to watch Glamorous last night, but stopped after the first episode. The non-binary lead in heels, lipstick with chest hair and mustache is too much! He/"They" would be cute dressed as a boy (or girl), but the whole mix/match is not cute, sorry. Also, the characters are so cliche or boring. Zane gorgeous in it, although his character is grating. I will continue with my Lucifer binge instead.

Tempted to watch this on mute. Ben J. Pierce's (refuse to call him anything else) voice just kills my ears but really want to see the eye candy of the other actors.

I recall DL being mostly over-the-moon about that ridiculously grandiose, over-the-top hetero-centric show Emily in Paris, but OH NO, Glamorous is quite simply a bridge too far! Get over yourselves. All sorts of flamboyant individuals do exist even if those who dislike that portrayal disagree and find it offensive. The world is huge and diverse on multiple levels. If you don't like it, or if it offends your delicate sensibilities, then for fuck's sake, don't watch it, sweeties.

I willed my way through most of the show after a bout with insomnia last night. It truly is remarkably bad.

It's not the nonbinary thing - which is super try hard, but never really bothered me. It's just so poorly written, conceived, and executed. From the character development to the plot to the "ticking time bombs" that don't seem to have any semblance to reality.

I wonder if this show suffered from a small writer's room - the thing the writers are striking about? Because every episode feels like it could the start of something interesting and then falls flat. As if they ran out of time or just gave up on the plot.

Take the love triangle. None of it make sense when watching the episodes back to back. Marco flip flops over and over, but it's never quite clear why. It all feels so arbitrary and surface-y. And each time he "breaks a heart" says, "Gee. I just never done anything like this before!". Bitch please! You just did it last episode!

Again, it's really a bad show. Not sure if Kim picked right after all. And Just Like That is bad too, but with way better production values and I assume a much bigger paycheck.

(We do see Marco in "normal" clothes in the PTown episode. He's just your basic twink.)

I'm watching it now. I'm on episode 8. I find it to be light-hearted fun fare. I'd rather be watching this than any reality show that's out here. I think that the guys are HOT--especially that Zane Phillips, but that Graham Parkhurst and Michael Hsu Rosen are up there in hotness too. I also think that the older men, Mark Decklin and Ricardo Chiavera are HOT too!

I like how it opens the story of Kim Catrall having a rich, gay son, from the beginning. I also like the wardrobe that whoever is styling KC with. Very nice.

Overall, I have found the series to be nonsensical fun. It holds my attention. I shut it off when I tire of it but I'll come back to the episode and place where I left off.

I agree that it sucks in every way but is still watchable and pleasant.

She also chose me over the lead colorist at the shop because I stopped to make her a cappuccino and asked her if she was OK. Apparently none of the cunts in the color department I worked with wanted to have anything to do with her. She referred a ton of business into my chair.

Then one day one of the stylist snagged her diamond earring with a paddlebrush, flung it to the floor, and stepped on it, crushing the mount.

"Glamorous" was a fun romp. I'm not into guys like Marco/Miss Benny, but they were very good. I'm more into Chad/Zane Phillips or Parker/Graham Parkhurst. And they weren't one dimensional characters.

I enjoyed the diversity of the cast, too. "The Devil Wears Prada" never had that.

And Miss Benny and Zane Phillips did quite well with the "Chicago" number.

Showtime picked up NPH’s UNCOUPLED after Netflix dropped it . Prediction on Season 2 delayed by Writers strike… I enjoyed Glamorous and hoping Netflix has the good sense to renew the series..

The writers do a good job with dialog referencing gay culture but that is about it. The show has potential but suffers from 2 serious flaws: (1) The main character is awful, an annoying, over-the-top fem. The viewers should root for the main character. The only thing I rooted for him was his body under the wheels of a Manhattan bus. I thin the nerdy gay guy is a more appealing character with potential to lead the show; and (2) The show underused Kim Cattrall. She's the marquee actor but is given little to do.

I hope it is renewed but would welcome some retooling. Primarily, I'd get rid of Miss Benny.

Glamorous got more intelligent and creative in the 2nd half of the season. The drag production number was hilarious and Zane was both game, and built like a brick shithouse and sexy. I also liked the MC at the Launch party and the "are you ready for" gay rights "journey" for the PR lady. It was bitingly clever and I forgave them saying queer instead of gay.

So I watch this while I was doing housework and kind of got hooked to it. The lead character I agree is kind of annoying , ultimate Queen, the nail polish and heels kind of push it over the edge. Netflix is not foolish they know which demographic they need to go after. As in Bros the reality here is somewhat skewed, most Chelsea muscle boys we'll have absolutely nothing to do with someone who is not their physical equal. I continued watching it because at 64 I need a broader insight on what today's younger gay/trans/bi people are like. The storyline grew on me especially the love triangle involving the jock and the nerd. I wish this was on TV back in the late seventies when I was but a gay ling trying to find my way instead of having to rely upon After Dark magazine and my Ah Men catalog for representation examples.

The nerd is played by a cute dancer/actor with a fabulous body. The pre-trans man just isn't that attractive and not because he is a queen. He could be a gorgeous queeny twink, but he's not. So not one, but two, attractive men are pining for him. And the trans guy is quite an asshole to his suitors.

Ben Hsu Rosen killed that scene where they are rolling on molly and he starts dancing.

And Marco is an annoying asshole for a lot of the show, obviously they write him that way on purpose, but it does make it more frustrating for the audience as we are meant to root for him.

I feel that Marco is more improbable than awful. Of course the writing didn't do him any favors. Not sure why the finance bro bf was all undone by Marco dressing fem when his friends were as queen scene as they come. Dialogue like "I wanted you from the moment I saw you" just had me rolling my eyes. The show needed more Cattrall being just...more.

Some idle things that I have wondered about after watching the show...

-Has interest and traffic increased for the Patricia Field's store (hmm... I don't know if that store still exists) or interest in the fashions that Kim Cattrall wore as the character Madolyn Addison? AHA! I've answered that (see link). Marketing is on it!!!

-Is EQUINOX getting more interest or measurable data coming in that solidifies its reputation as a luxury gym (I believe it's now $300/month for an all-access pass but that excludes destination locations). I personally don't think that the show will help in attracting more gays to Equinox. While gay people are definitely there (not nearly in the numbers that once was), EQUINOX is a "been there, done that" experience for many gays. We're at David Barton's new gym U, Crunch, and various independent gyms now.

-Who will it possibly be that will play Chad's (Madolyn's son) father? I can't even think of anyone who I would like to see in the role and I'm trying to imagine what type I would like to see. So far, I've gotten as far as... tall.

-I LOVED how the show showed the "White-boy" dating the masculine Asian-boy (Joel Kim Booster who is 35, BTW) sans the stereotype tropes and looks. I just really dislike we gays many times but especially if I come across stuff such as; "No Asians", "No sushi" UGH!!!! and DOUBLE UGH!!!! HATE! HATE! HATE seeing that shit!!!

-I was looking forward to seeing Michael Hsu Rosen in a speedo. I guess he chose not to do that since he had already made an appearance in his underwear.

-With that in mind, I wonder if actors (around the same age as these guys) gay or straight and who might have or might not have taken these roles, look at these actors from an objective view (re their looks/body) and do a self-evaluation as to where they fit if comparing themselves to these actors.

-I'm not a fan of the big-boned, lipstick lesbian, girl, Jade Payton (Venetia). Sorry, I'm just not a fan. BUT, I really LOVE the dyke lesbian Ayesha Harris!!! I hope the show will utilize her more.

It was dumb, romantic romp, cute and representing- all can be true at the same time.

Coming from two generations behind, I would equate it right on par with Jenny Livingston’s “Paris Is Burning”, in that looking in from the outside, just like the movie- this series seems sort of ridiculous premise on it’s surface, but later becomes an touchstone for what’s important for gay/queer kids nowadays. What impressed me was that they didn’t hold back on joking about things like Prep, AND that just Iike PIB, they used a huge medium like Netflix to broadcast gay culture, in a way that didn’t take itself seriously and casts different characters you root for and learn to like thier stories, rather than cookie cut characters. ESPECIALLY important visibility in this era of society, and I believe someone really had to fight to leave the episodes intact and strong.

The truth is that if Jennie hadn’t fought fiercely to get PIB made, all those wonderful people would’ve never been heard, and their stories lost and abandoned. Ballroom culture is wildly indebted to her even though they can’t STAND her!

Paris Is Burning was the reason I moved to NYC and realized there was an entire world of gay culture and happening outside my hometown. I think Glamorous does the very same thing with a much broader TV medium. It truly is the children that watch this, that change our course for the better. Especially the straight ones…

There’s definitely a voice and a tone, though I’d love to see some more solid writing happen.

I’m the previous poster hair colorist that dealt with Trish McEvoy, and she indeed had some beautiful guys into makeup working for her just like Benny and Marco- they would all shuffle down the elevator from her headquarters upstairs. They’d circle round her while I was doing her hair several floors down where my hair salon was located, across 57th from Tiffany’s. I think dealing with them day in and out made me respect femme boys a bit more, and let me tell you, those boys can carry on their own, fearless about wearing makeup in public, and really don’t need your help! LOL

The most fun was when they opened a temporary Chanel downstairs, their staff really knew how to throw a grand opening party on the Mezzanine level. Let’s just say those elevators got a lot of action after hours, hehe.

I finished watching. While it's nice to have so much footage to lust over Zane Philips over and over, I'd say the entire season lasted about 5 episodes too long. Very Ryan Murphy-esque, who always overstays his welcome, too.

I think the core audience for this show is actually young teen girls, not gay or lesbian grownups.

I made it through about an episode and a half and threw in the towel.

Agree completely. It's unfortunate that they went this direction, but I suppose it's because the actor is trans. I would much prefer the character be shown as a femme gay guy that is comfortable in his own skin rather than going down the hormone and surgery path.

I don't know if the show purposely went that way. From the little that I have read (and who knows what is true or not) the actor surprised the production with this news and that the last show was a scramble to accommodate that news. So...

Well this doesn't surprise me that Marco the character is trans. Big deal. The FATAL flaw of this show is that Marco is supposed to be this compelling seductive beauty and the actor is not all that attractive. The suitors are a few cuts above in attractiveness. This isn't even subjective. The actor is average looking.
