1. There is no evidence Arnold had a relationship with his son when he was growing up. He provided secret financial support (can be seen as hush money) and that's it. I don't hate him, but I don't think even he claims otherwise.

3. Why her? Yes, she was available and, uniquely, did not draw suspicion just by being at his house. R112, in answer to question #1, I don't know if I can find that info now. That's what I remember reading at the time. He was out of the country on business in some country south of the U.S. I don't think he and Mildred had the greatest relationship. Maybe she was already cheating on him.

As to question #3, it was always going to be a low possibility for the kids to have a relationship with Joseph. But Mildred's actions completely ruled it out when she stayed on at the family home after she got pregnant.
