R.C. Sproul
Is anyone else familiar with the great American theologian R.C. Sproul?
A reformed Presbyterian, Sproul spent his life sharing the message of the Gospel across the world. My parents were big fans and I spent my childhood and early adult years listening to his sermons and seminars. I usually agree with his most pedagogy on theology.
He was practical yet sophisticated, honest yet gentle, conservative yet progressive. He came off as a real person who treated people humane and with kindness.

R9 He is saying he disagrees with homosexuality and thinks it is unbiblical, but he is also saying to to love the person.

Well, isn't that special.

So its just more of the 'hate the sin love the sinner' cliché. How progressive.
That's been around since St. Augustine

[quote]hate the sin love the sinner
I often find the opposite to be more relevant to my life.

He was just another of the parade of radio preachers my Dad had on his AM radio every day during the 70s. Nothing particularly different about him, as far as I could tell.

R22: “ Religious people bore the fuck out of me.”
No, they don’t. They attract your attention. Thus, you post.
It’s not criticism. Just observation.

His son, who is a real piece of work, has a daughter married to the oldest son of Doug Phillips, disgraced leader of the patriarchal Vision Forum cult. I first learned about that here from the Dominion Wackiness Troll.

r5 - That's the Sproul I was thinking about 'til I got to your post. I was confused why UC Davis would name a building (tallest one on campus back in the day) after a preacher. I had no idea what the guy looked like.

Prior to the creation of the UC system, everything we now think of as separate campuses was run out of Berkeley— even UCLA. Local campus control only came about in the 50s. He was most closely associated with Cal, but he played a huge role in what we think of as the modern UC, hence the named buildings for him at several campuses,
