And you better be rich:

OP is Oprah. These drugs work. Your cauliflower pizza doesn't.

by Anonymousreply 2June 3, 2023 1:56 PM

Yes, you are supposed to stay on it forever. That is why you shouldn't be using it if you aren't obese (or diabetic). Bariatric surgery is also forever: it should be approached the same way.

It's not that expensive in my country, and except for use in diabetes it hasn't [yet] been put on the public health register, where the government subsidises drugs to make them affordable. Weight loss is the holy grail for medications, so it will have a million competitors in no time, thus prices won't stay that high unless they manage to form a secret cartel.

by Anonymousreply 3June 3, 2023 1:56 PM

Costs will go down as competing products enter the market, as will the side effects. None of this will be an issue a decade hence, I'm jealous of the younger gays.

by Anonymousreply 4June 3, 2023 1:57 PM

Mine costs nothing, but then I take it for blood sugar. R3 is right most likely puff pieces from the exercise and diet industry.

by Anonymousreply 5June 3, 2023 1:57 PM

[quote]OP is Oprah

I wish! I never said they don't work, all I said that you have to take them forever, according to the article.

by Anonymousreply 6June 3, 2023 1:58 PM

all I said is that*

by Anonymousreply 7June 3, 2023 1:58 PM

Just when you thought society couldn't get more disgusting and decadent, here comes Ozempic.

by Anonymousreply 8June 3, 2023 2:02 PM

So is chronic explosive diarrhea going to be the new norm in an Ozempic society? Everyone walking around fashionably slim and doubled over in abdominal pain?

by Anonymousreply 9June 3, 2023 2:06 PM

r8 Decadence is overeating, then paying thousands of dollars to have the fat sucked out of you. Decade is getting obese to the point of looking like a whale and being unable to leave your apartment. Ozempic prevents all that.

by Anonymousreply 10June 3, 2023 2:06 PM

Depends, r9!

by Anonymousreply 11June 3, 2023 2:06 PM

Finally someone found a cure for fat!

by Anonymousreply 12June 3, 2023 2:08 PM

r6 Here is the thing. If they do help with weight loss then people probably are insulin resistant. They probably need the drug. I have am borderline and metformin didn't really help me so my Doctor tried this. Been a miracle. Night and day blood sugar levels, and some weight loss. I am down to 1/4 of the metformin I was taking and he has talked about reducing my bp meds. No I am not 400 pounds. I weigh 226 now (was 242 when I started). It has encouraged me to work out harder. I still crave junk, I can still overeat but now I pay dearly for it (bad indigestion), but my body seems to now process calories correctly. I have carried fat my whole life. The only thing that ever worked for me was Keto/atkins - basically cutting out carbs. My doctor said that I probably have been insulin resistant my whole life.

by Anonymousreply 13June 3, 2023 2:09 PM

r9 Ozempic-related diarrhea can be easily prevented by just taking a spoonful of psyllium husk with a glass of water every day, which you should be doing anyway because of its other proven health benefits.

by Anonymousreply 14June 3, 2023 2:09 PM

Why is she holding a small human face in her hand?

by Anonymousreply 15June 3, 2023 2:20 PM

What is Ozempic face?

by Anonymousreply 16June 3, 2023 2:21 PM

r16 because of the rapid weight loss the skin on the face can sag or appear loose. It's a hollow look.

by Anonymousreply 17June 3, 2023 2:30 PM

Thanks, r17!

by Anonymousreply 18June 3, 2023 2:31 PM

You'll be paying the drug company forever

by Anonymousreply 19June 3, 2023 2:51 PM

I went off it because:

1. The weight loss was not that dramatic

2. I was loosing a tremendous amount of hair

3. It was causing nausea that was tolerable by itself, but not tolerable when exercising or when combined with naltrexone, which I take for alcohol abuse (although people seem to be saying that ozempic alone aids in reducing alcohol intake).

Even when I skipped the naltrexone, the nausea got really bad when I exercised. I could only do very mild exercise. I realize that fit fat is an oxymoron, but I was in very good shape RELATIVE to my age and weight before I started ozempic. My fitness level is noticeably lower now and I actually look fatter.

But it did work. And the moral outrage over a drug that causes people NOT to eat like pigs is ridiculous. Why should only people who have already eaten themselves to obesity or diabetes have access? That’s just silly. Yes, cost is an issue. But, as pointed out, the price will go down and access will become more widespread.

I stopped almost two months ago and I haven’t gained any weight.

by Anonymousreply 20June 3, 2023 2:51 PM

r20 it is a false outrage. Somehow it is bad to lose weight unless you REALLY EARN THE BURN! It is the exercise and healthcare industry who are spreading this. How many people have said 'I wish there was a pill or drug I could take and just lose weight." Well now there is and people are all over it about how it is cheating, and making up all this shit about it. Oh you will just get fat when you go off it, you have to be on it for life...

Fun Fact. Viagra was developed as a blood pressure drug until they noticed it gave people erections. Rogaine was a bp drug that grew hair.

by Anonymousreply 21June 4, 2023 1:30 PM

Is “Ozempic face” good or bad?

by Anonymousreply 22June 4, 2023 1:32 PM

r22 it tends to make people look older. Fat people usually look younger or more their age, but the sudden lose of fat in the face makes for more wrinkles.

by Anonymousreply 23June 4, 2023 1:36 PM

People tend to look “haggard” if they’re chronically too-thin or if they lose weight quickly.

by Anonymousreply 24June 4, 2023 5:07 PM

Where can I get a free sample?

by Anonymousreply 25June 4, 2023 7:15 PM

Ozempic or not, that bitch in R23 is ugly regardless.

by Anonymousreply 26June 4, 2023 7:20 PM

We're getting daily oral Ozempic next year that'll supplement the existing weekly injections. For the more squeamish fat whores out there. And who knows, maybe that's exactly what Trump, DeSantis and Christie are waiting for. It'll be like PrEP but, you know, for fat.

Ely Lilly also announced last month a proper head-to-head study of Wegovy and Mounjaro on 700 people.

by Anonymousreply 27June 4, 2023 8:15 PM

r27 the injections are painless.

by Anonymousreply 28June 5, 2023 1:18 AM

Mounjaro causes even more weight loss than Wegovy. It's hardcore.

by Anonymousreply 29June 5, 2023 1:43 AM

They're looking at it as a cure for Alzheimer's. Ozempic face is just a way for people to slam the formerly fat. Can't say fat anymore so call them old. And then rub your hands together speculating that they'll gain it all back. Fun!

by Anonymousreply 30June 5, 2023 1:52 AM

My sister-in-law is starting to overeat again despite her nausea. I doubt she'll be alone in that among people with long-term compulsive overeating problems.

by Anonymousreply 31June 5, 2023 1:57 AM

This shit is a bandage over the source of the problem. If you're overeating and stressed or using food to compensate for something emotionally necessary in your life, you WILL go back into old habits once your go off this drug. If you don't regain what weight you've lost, you'll gain a plethora of internal health issues and wind up needing medical help in some form or another.

Seek the root cause for your issues, not a shot.

by Anonymousreply 32June 5, 2023 2:04 AM

r31 if she is on it and overeats she will regret it. I have on it and it is terrible.

by Anonymousreply 33June 5, 2023 2:10 AM

This drug sounds amazing! I WANT Ozempic face.

by Anonymousreply 34June 5, 2023 2:11 AM

r29 That hasn't been firmly established yet because the two studies were of different duration and so Mounjaro's superior effectiveness is just an extrapolation. Hence the new study by its maker.

This whole segment of pharma is going to be so interesting to watch over the coming years and decades. I recall all these dire projections about how much of the population is going to be obese soon, but maybe they got it all wrong and obesity will be mostly eradicated by the middle of this century.

by Anonymousreply 35June 5, 2023 3:16 AM

Ozempic Nation >>> Prozac Nation

by Anonymousreply 36June 5, 2023 3:20 AM

r32 - sometimes the "source of your issues" is that your body doesn't work properly and converts calories to fat instead of energy.

Some people's children. Really hate the sanctimonious "this is a bandaid solution" or "just eat less and move more" assholes that really don't get it. SOMETIMES BODIES FUCK UP AND DON'T WORK RIGHT. You know, like when people have other "issues" like high blood pressure, heart disease, lupus, Huntington's Disease, Parkinson's...

by Anonymousreply 37June 5, 2023 5:16 AM

[quote] sometimes the "source of your issues" is that your body doesn't work properly and converts calories to fat instead of energy.

What condition causes this? If your body doesn’t use calories for energy, what does it use?

Ozempic makes you eat less. It’s still calories in, calories out.

Years ago Yvette Nicole Brown had gastric bypass surgery. Now I think she is mainlining the weight drugs

R38 INSULIN RESISTANCE. DIABETES.

You are indeed an uninformed dolt. THAT'S WHY THEY'VE MADE THESE DRUGS. Because when you're insulin resistant or diabetic, your body DOESN'T use calories for energy, it stores it as FAT. Read up on it instead of spouting off "CICO."

You, sir, are part of the problem.

by Anonymousreply 40June 5, 2023 2:19 PM

You just know that Kirstie Alley would be on it.

Insulin helps blood sugar enter the body's cells so it can be used for energy. Insulin also signals the liver to store blood sugar for later use. Blood sugar enters cells, and levels in the bloodstream decrease, signaling insulin to decrease too.

When your cells are insulin resistant they do not convert that glucose to energy so the body will store it as fat. Meaning your basic metabolism is broken or at least not working at 100%. Yes it is calories in calories out but most diets consist of high carbs. Carbs are converted to glucose. Normal metabolisms can process them, insulin resistant will not and store most of it as fat. It is why some people have great success on Keto or Adkins. Removing carbs masks the problem but it is still a problem. It's why people do great on them then gain it all back even if they manage a normal diet. This drug helps bodies process carbs normally.

by Anonymousreply 42June 5, 2023 2:37 PM

I'm okay with people using this to lose weight. Idk why people get angry with shortcuts. I suppose it's the same frustration with plastic surgery; however it's unfair being upset they are using this, but are also upset when they are fat. Maybe there is something environmental going on. I'm noticing young people (especially girls) looking thick as hell. It's sad actually. My 2nd grade niece has boobs and will likely start menstruation soon. My 3rd grade nephew put on a lot of weight during covid. If there's something that can help people, I'm all for it. We need something.
