NYC Pride gets its first-ever 'asexual' grand marshal
British model, writer and activist Yasmin Benoit will be the first-ever asexual grand marshal of NYC Pride, leading celebrations alongside Billy Porter and other LGBTQ+ advocates.
‘Hey, everybody grow together. We’re fighting the same fight. [bold]It’s not just the first three letters or the first four letters.[/bold] We’re going beyond that and recognising that this is a legitimate orientation and that asexual people count as part of the community.’
I can think of nothing more important for a gay and lesbian group to do than celebrate people who don't have sex. Well done, NYC Pride.

But Pride is extremely sexual. I’m mad confused.

Jesus God in Heaven, why'd you have to invent such not snatch?
Seriously, I'm done with this world. If I don't wake up tomorrow, good.
Benoit will lead this year’s NYC Pride alongside queer icon Billy Porter, Athlete Ally chief of staff AC Dumlao, activist Hope Giselle, and advocate Randolfe “Randy” Wicker.
I have no idea who the latter three are, but I assume they're trans, asexual or some other form of spicy.

Ah. Randy Wicker's inclusion becomes clear:
Randy Wicker: Marsha’s the only one, she’s the only one everyone agrees was at the Stonewall riots. There were a lot of other people, but everyone agrees that Marsha was there, so…

Some asexual people do have sex, OP. They just don't experience sexual attraction to anyone. There are also gay asexuals (homoromantic asexuals). On the other hand, there are also straight asexuals (heteroromantic asexuals). Thus, asexuality needs to be in its own category altogether separate from LGB sexual orientations. And I say that as a gay asexual.
This is just going to open up asexuals to more hate and ridicule from everyone else. I don't want recognition or "to be seen." I honestly just want to be left alone. This is a bad idea.

Sounds exhausting.

I'm not dismissive of "these kids today!", but I do miss the days when grand marshals were people like Del Martin and Phyllis Lyon, David Kopay, Martina, Stonewall veterans, etc. People who actually did shit and made history.

I'm just a gay man. Maybe 2% of the population. Sorry I'm so lame and common.

I can't wait to see what 2033 will be like.
You know it's going to be a different world by then.
I'm so sick of this one.

No gay guys give a crap about going to the one-time Gay Pride Day Parade anymore, now that it is quite openly "Trans - Queer Pride". This "asexual" character should never have put herself up for this. This is not about her and it's not about them.
Once they took the "Gay" out of Gay Pride, I saw no point in seeing, or supporting it.
There's a long YouTube video of the Gay Pride Parade from the 90s and they interview many attendees and guess how many times people talked about enbies, queers, trannies and asexuals? Zero.

I’m still trying to understand how one is transgender AND nonbinary. I’m not anti-anyone, I just don’t get those two concepts together. Maybe someone will enlighten me.

I wonder what would happen if Gays and Lesbians had their own parade?

I think it's disgusting that we can't even have our oppression.
The amount of shit we have for being homosexuals is not equivalent to some fool who doesn't want sex.
There are many things I don't want and don't think I should be celebrated for it.

doubt I'm going to Pride in Cincinnati this year: last year there were no rainbow flags, only trans flags. Lots of suburban moms showing with their children decked out in lashes, glitter, and full makeup. Yes, you can cosplay with your kids, Karen, but don't turn around and jump in your MAGA-mobile to drive out to Moms-for-Liberty land.
