This just occurred to me--do the 1/6 convicts lose their suffrage?

Because in many states, including mine, people who serve time cannot vote when they're released.

I recall when he was Governor, Terry McAuliffe mounted a huge, successful challenge to VA's laws regarding ex-cons' suffrage.

I think I have your answer. Tho I'm kind of confused if there's a difference regarding 'federal' vs 'state' felonies.

But, it seems, in most states voting rights are restored. It differs as some restore after prison while some restore after prison+probation while others require a petition.. But there are a few states, approx 9, where they could lose their voting rights permanently.

^^ Monetary restitution is also sometimes used as a qualifier for restoring rights.

Thanks for that, R1!

And in this case, too bad. I'd love to see those criminals permanently disenfranchised for taking up arms/fomenting rebellion.
