You know I have heard of people stealing ducks and geese from ponds and killing them for food. But the risk is that these animals especially in cities, are eating all kinds of terrible stuff. It will affect the taste of the meat. So if you're into that kind of thing with ducks and geese, you should steal the babies and raise them on good feed until they're ready to be butchered for food.

That's fucked up. Doesn't matter if this was considered "normal" to them, they knew it was wrong obviously, otherwise they wouldn't have jumped a fence in the middle of the night. We eat chicken, but no one thinks it's right to jump fences and steal them. Not even where these fuckers come from is that legal to steal. Swans are rare to see in NY too. Usually it's Canadian geese.

I also have I big problem with people "hunting" animals in city/ suburban settings. There's neighbors in my area that try to "hunt" deer -- deer that are so used to people, so boxed in, etc., They might as well be domesticated. People even provide them food. It's not "hunting" when you pick off wild life that have no choices but to live in areas full of people.

Why do you think they were able to get the swan? People (until then) weren't a threat to it like that. They would've never been able to grab a swan family in the middle of nowhere.

I remember reading this and immediately think "Asian". A lot them have been caught around our lakes here taking eggs from wild ducks nests and probably snagging some of the actual birds.
