Edgars Rinkēvičs elected president of Latvia, first openly gay president in country's history
[quote]Latvian lawmakers on Wednesday picked the country’s long-serving and popular foreign minister, a strong backer of Ukraine, as its new head of state in a tight vote.
[quote]Rinkēvičs, who announced in 2014 that he is “proudly” homosexual, will be the first openly gay president in the Baltic nations — all former Soviet republics where attitudes to sexual minorities have been less tolerant than in western Europe.

Apparently, he's also the first openly gay president... ever. The closest one before him was San Marino's Captain Regent Paolo Rondelli, who was also a state head, but he shared his position and was in office only for six months, from April to October of last year.

*(And he wasn't sacked or resigned, that's just how long his mandate lasted.)

Yeah, and in his country, they probably teach kids crazy things like the planets move around the sun and babies don't come from God.

Rondelli, mentioned at r2, is a proud gay daddy.

Love the Baltic countries. It makes sense that they were the ones clamoring to get away from the Russians before any of the other 'SSRs.'

Let's talk about what's really important here: is he for or against the T. Does he support gay erasure?
