There have been a few threads on him on DL since 2016.

In the post-2016 breakdown years he seemed especially manic and dire (online, Twitter especially) and always dramatic. One running theme was his constant fighting and making up with Boy George, over and over.

But he was on social media even before 2016, and was always wacky and bizarre.

Most DL followers agreed they followed him on Twitter for the “freak show.” Myself included. This last year has been especially strange. He seems to have health problems himself as well as his mother. Begging for money for food and transport to the hospital. Not a good look! And he seems to know it. It’s all very lurid and a bit hard to tell what to believe.

His hilarious over-use of Facetune, etc. makes Barbara Dickson look like a photorealist.

In the 80’s Madonna always loved him and hated Boy George.

I always liked his 80’s “hit” “Cry and Be Free.” His one 80’s album Despite Straight Lines was good, not great. Typical mid-80’s British pop in the same mode as Culture Club, just not as good.

He was alway a looker compared to Boy George (who despite all the fabulousness, had the face of a potato). Marilyn gave you classic stunning beauty FACE! They came from the same early 80’s UK club scene and were friends. They were opposites in lots of ways, small and large.

He’s the Joyce DeWitt of 80’s Blitz Kid pop music.

I loved his steamy duet with country mega-star Terri Gibbs, the unused theme song to Octopussy. I get that it was too explicit for 1980s radio with four solid minutes of vaginal imagery in the lyrics plus all that Love to Love You Baby moaning from both singers, but when Gibbs and Marilyn performed it on stage at Live-Aid, the crowd went absolutely and rightly apeshit. A bit late but I've finally got round to reading Johnny Marr's autobiography. The Smiths' first appearance on Top Of The Pops was alongside Marilyn. Johnny thought his record was crap but that the man himself was "gorgeous".

He had a new album (whatever happened to those tracks?), and he and George got lots of press about it in the UK. The public seemed to remember him fondly. But then it all somehow fell apart.

If you read his drama-heavy Twitter, he’s daily one step away from complete ruin. The bank confiscated his belongings, his legs are swollen and he can’t walk (with photos!), his mom is sick and dying and he can’t afford a taxi, he wants someone to DM him ten euros so he can buy some soup he’s literally starving help omg why me. Every day like that for years and years. I don’t get it. But I can’t look away.

Barbara Dickson is a middle of the road U.K. singer (though she started out more in a folk singer/songwriter vein but got blandified by people like Mike Batt). Babs has had quite a Mumsy image for years but I’m not sure she uses FaceTune.

I am a huge fan of 80s pop music but cannot name any of his songs. I do, however , see his Instagram posts from time to time and for a while he was posting about the male escorts he was purchasing. Sounds like there isn't money for that these days if he is jonesing online for cab fare.

He had one UK “hit” and I think one other charting single and LP way back in the 80s. Hardly a big enough splash music-wise to be on oldie stations! His persona is what’s remembered. He was part of the Blitz Kids/Taboo/i-D/Face crowd that was an underground “star,” but that punched into the mainstream, if only for a moment.

He definitely rides Boy George’s coattails, even now. I imagine George is so used to it he doesn’t even notice anymore.
