Mercury poisoning from eating too much tuna

Has anyone here ever experienced this? What happened?

by Anonymousreply 61May 31, 2023 1:26 AM

No, OP. The amount of tuna you'd have to consume every day would make you a fat whore, unable to fit through the door.

by Anonymousreply 1May 29, 2023 12:31 AM

I remember that time he gave me $500 to have an abortion and instead I used the money to buy a PlayStation.

by Anonymousreply 2May 29, 2023 12:31 AM

Adults should eat no more than 12 ounces of tuna per week.

by Anonymousreply 3May 29, 2023 12:39 AM

Oh my gawd, OP, it's GHASTLY!

by Anonymousreply 4May 29, 2023 12:45 AM

I never eat more than one serving of tuna per week, to reduce mercury exposure. I eat the Tuna Creations, so that's 2.6oz per week for me. High in protein, low in calories.

It would be nice if they put the estimated mercury amount on the nutrition label.

WTF?

by Anonymousreply 6May 29, 2023 12:47 AM

I don’t want the mercury in tuna, so I snack on glass thermometers instead.

by Anonymousreply 7May 29, 2023 12:49 AM

I sprouted little wings on my feet once.

by Anonymousreply 8May 29, 2023 12:55 AM

I can't find myself in a mirror anymore.

by Anonymousreply 9May 29, 2023 12:57 AM

Daphne Zuniga had mercury poisoning from eating too much tuna. She was on Howard Stern talking about. Maybe the video is YouTube, or the rundown on marksfriggin.com

by Anonymousreply 10May 29, 2023 12:59 AM

R10 I think she self diagnosed that

by Anonymousreply 11May 29, 2023 1:04 AM

If it can happen to Daphne Zuniga...

by Anonymousreply 12May 29, 2023 1:09 AM

Tuna is Disssgusting.

by Anonymousreply 13May 29, 2023 1:15 AM

Am I correct in reading many months ago that the mercury content is higher in cans than in the pouches?

by Anonymousreply 14May 29, 2023 1:17 AM

I like tuna, but I always buy albacore. The recommendation is to limit oneself to 4 oz per week.

by Anonymousreply 15May 29, 2023 1:19 AM

It happened to Linda Fiorentino too. It is why she had to drop out of acting.

by Anonymousreply 16May 29, 2023 1:22 AM

Unfortunate, for those who aren't immune.

by Anonymousreply 17May 29, 2023 1:23 AM

[quote] "It happened to Linda Fiorentino too. It is why she had to drop out of acting."

I understand the same thing also happened to Julia Ormond, shortly after "Sabrina".

by Anonymousreply 18May 29, 2023 1:27 AM

4oz = one can. No more than one can per week.

by Anonymousreply 19May 29, 2023 1:27 AM

R16 Hardly

by Anonymousreply 20May 29, 2023 1:30 AM

Can you get it from using it vaginally?

by Anonymousreply 21May 29, 2023 1:32 AM

My precum gathers in my shoes.

by Anonymousreply 22May 29, 2023 1:35 AM

Which is better to consume in terms of mercury levels - dark (light) or white tuna?

by Anonymousreply 23May 29, 2023 1:47 AM

Stephanie Miller claims to have had it, too, from eating sushi several times a week.

by Anonymousreply 24May 29, 2023 1:55 AM

What kind of troll is starting these insulting threads?

And what kind of people rise to the bait every time?

by Anonymousreply 25May 29, 2023 2:48 AM

Light tuna (darker meat, smaller fish) has less mercury on average than albacore (lighter meat, larger fish). See the linked article.

One level teaspoon of mercury per month is okay.

by Anonymousreply 27May 29, 2023 3:06 AM

I tried vegan tuna. One brand was Loma Linda. It was nasty. The other was Good Catch. Also nasty. It's a shame there is so much focus on creating realistic vegan beef and pork (because they're responsible for more pollution) because I never liked that stuff anyway. I prefer seafood, of which nothing on the market as a vegan replica is edible yet. I would love some good vegan shrimp, cod fillets and fish sticks.

by Anonymousreply 28May 29, 2023 3:12 AM

All these vegan substitutes are ultra-processed food packed with chemicals that will give you cancer too.

by Anonymousreply 29May 29, 2023 3:19 AM

Oh yeah R16 & R18, that's why Madonna stopped acting too! Her meteoric rise to Oscar territory ruined by fish. Just terrible.

by Anonymousreply 30May 29, 2023 3:20 AM

[quote]Light and skipjack varieties, for instance, contain much less mercury on average than albacore tuna.

That is useful information. I will avoid albacore.

by Anonymousreply 31May 29, 2023 3:20 AM

The only person who ever experienced this was Jeremy Piven. Except even that was a lie.

by Anonymousreply 32May 29, 2023 3:24 AM

I got it and went from a tenor to an alto. My front upper teeth grew and became protruding.

Although R29 is generally correct, I'll share R28 some of my experience having eaten and cooked vegetarian for a number of years back in the 1990s until the present.

Fake tuna like Loma Linda is nasty because it's seasoned so strangely. It's nothing more than TVP anyway. In the 90s, we used plain TVP, rehydrated with vegetable broth for extra flavor, to make fake-tuna-like salads and casseroles.

Sophie's Kitchen makes various vegan seafood analogues like shrimp, crab cakes, even lox. They are made from konjac, and as such, have no nutrition, very few calories, and little flavor. Saucing is everything with these products - you can make a great scampi with the fake shrimp, for instance.

If you have a Loving Hut restaurant near you, they sell some fake meat and seafood products in their freezer case that are marginally better than most of what is out there.

I never eat tuna fish 🐟.

In fact for lunch on Monday I’m having MOCK Tuna .

by Anonymousreply 35May 29, 2023 5:06 AM

R35 I make chickpea salad sandwiches and they’re good.

by Anonymousreply 36May 29, 2023 5:17 AM

R36- There's a recipe for a tunafish sandwich at the NYT and someone wrote a letter saying they substitute chickpea's for the tuna and I decided to do it myself- I made a very tasty sandwich with-

Chickpeas

Fresh Parsley

Fresh Dill

Vegenaise

Fresh Lemon Juice

Black Pepper

Garlic Powder

Tahini

by Anonymousreply 37May 29, 2023 5:33 AM

R37 is me R35

by Anonymousreply 38May 29, 2023 5:34 AM

Saw this thread, messagedmy PCP on MyChart to confirm. Chunk light tuna is find but limit albacore to no more than 2 servings per week for a healthy adult.

by Anonymousreply 39May 29, 2023 1:11 PM

I simply don't understand how any type of tuna can be sold to the public if there's a danger of mercury poisoning if you eat more than two servings per week. And if certain kinds of tuna are dangerous and others are not, why not limit sales to the kind that's not dangerous?

by Anonymousreply 40May 29, 2023 2:29 PM

It's better than imitation crab, or otherwise known as hot-dog-of-the-sea.

by Anonymousreply 41May 29, 2023 2:43 PM

Your dick falls off, OP.

by Anonymousreply 42May 29, 2023 2:54 PM

Dear Sealion R40, the reasons are outlined in the link at R26. Tuna is popular, relatively inexpensive, and has healthful qualities to it. There aren't any strong substitutes for canned tuna.

The article hints at but doesn't go into detail to explain that many types of seafood are contaminated with mercury. That's why the article says 'max 3 servings a week if you don't consume any other seafood.'

There aren't mercury-less tuna available. The article talks about one company that tests every tuna it catches for mercury and only packages with its label those with very low levels. But this effort makes Safe Catch brand cost 2 to 4 times that of other canned tuna brands.

by Anonymousreply 43May 29, 2023 2:56 PM

Why is tuna so high in mercury and not other fish?

Didn't Christian Bale eat a can of tuna a day when he was preparing to film "The Machinist"?

by Anonymousreply 44May 29, 2023 3:06 PM

[QUOTE] Why is tuna so high in mercury and not other fish?

I don't know. Salmon and tilapia are fine. Must be something about the waters in which tuna are caught.

by Anonymousreply 45May 29, 2023 3:45 PM

[QUOTE] Didn't Christian Bale eat a can of tuna a day when he was preparing to film "The Machinist"?

I doubt that story. There's no way he could have made through filming. Mercury poisoning, is known to cash hives, brain fog and even fibromyalgia.

by Anonymousreply 46May 29, 2023 3:46 PM

R1 Right. So ... Uh ... How much again?

by Anonymousreply 47May 29, 2023 4:08 PM

Tina is chicken OP. You’ll be fine

by Anonymousreply 48May 29, 2023 4:19 PM

r44 From what I understand tuna take several years to get to a size worth catching. The longer a fish feeds at sea the more mercury it will absorb. Many other fish are caught relatively young, i.e. they've spent less time in the ocean than tuna usually do, and therefore ingest less mercury.

Chelation therapy(various chemicals are administered that change the mercury to an insoluble form that can be excreted) is available for mercury poisoning, success is variable. You CAN get blood, urine and hair tests to find out if you have mercury in your system, but the numbers don't relate well to actual levels.

Back to chickpeas. 🤫

by Anonymousreply 49May 29, 2023 4:21 PM

R49, R45, and R46, thank you.

by Anonymousreply 50May 29, 2023 5:00 PM

i eat a bunch of it like 8 cans a week

by Anonymousreply 51May 29, 2023 5:08 PM

Replace your tuna with salmon kids. Also, Alaskan wild salmon or pacific waters salmon have lower levels than farm raised salmon, go figure that riddle out, I don’t get it either.

[quote]Mercury poisoning from eating too much tuna

This is a private matter between you and yo fat mama, OP.

But I'd suggest you stop doing that. It's nasty and sick.

by Anonymousreply 55May 29, 2023 5:18 PM

What if the tuna can has No Mercury written on the label, label, label?

by Anonymousreply 56May 29, 2023 5:27 PM

Saw this thread and picked up a can of albacore. No warning on the label.

by Anonymousreply 57May 29, 2023 5:56 PM

r53 I don't know if it'll turn you gay, but it might make you GRAY. Which is what farm-raised salmon would be if their diet didn't include ingredients to give them that lovely salmon-y orange-y color we look for when we go shopping.

by Anonymousreply 58May 29, 2023 7:15 PM

eating fish made me gay

by Anonymousreply 59May 30, 2023 12:38 PM

Eating quiche made me gay.
