What a glorious and underrated film. Louis Jourdan is at the height of his beauty as the self absorbed musician and Joan is wonderful as Lisa, the girl who he seduces and leaves behind pregnant. It was better than I expected. I hope it has more fans than just me…

I’m a big fan of this one myself.
Don’t forget the director Max Ophuls. He was another European director who was not really appreciated by Hollywood.

I love the ending. It’s based on a story by Stefan Zweig. I think he also wrote the biography of Marie Antoinette that was adapted into the 1938 film with Norma Shearer and Tyrone Power.
