People who prefer non-traditional breakfast foods in the morning- are you one of them?

Not all cultures eat cereal, pastry, eggs, or fatty meats and/or potatoes in the morning.

I like a miso soup or vegetable soup or ramen for breakfast or maybe some white rice with pepper on it. I’ve been known to eat salad for breakfast or some of yesterday’s leftovers.

Anyone else like this or know people who are?

by Anonymousreply 77May 27, 2023 3:47 AM

I don't eat traditional breakfast foods for breakfast. I prefer a small serving of pasta with vegetables.

by Anonymousreply 1May 25, 2023 4:31 PM

I’ll eat leftovers if they’re better than the alternatives on hand and are compatible with coffee.

by Anonymousreply 2May 25, 2023 4:39 PM

Cold pizza!!!

by Anonymousreply 3May 25, 2023 4:44 PM

R1 that sounds interesting... do you dress with oil/butter or sauce?

by Anonymousreply 4May 25, 2023 4:50 PM

OP, I'm not big on breakfast in general, but I always thought a restaurant concept that focused on less traditional (in the Western sense) breakfast foods could be interesting. Say, a Pan-Asian breakfast and brunch concept which served traditional Thai, Chinese, Korean, Malaysian and Vietnamese breakfast staples.

by Anonymousreply 5May 25, 2023 4:55 PM

r4 yes, olive oil and some parmesan

by Anonymousreply 6May 25, 2023 4:55 PM

I can eat anything I like for breakfast. I have a friend who says he "just can't" eat anything but typical breakfast food.

by Anonymousreply 7May 25, 2023 4:56 PM

Does cold pizza count?

by Anonymousreply 8May 25, 2023 5:01 PM

I heat leftover pizza in a preheated 350 oven for 12 minutes. It's so much better than cold or microwaved.

by Anonymousreply 9May 25, 2023 5:09 PM

R8 Cold pizza sure does. Also love cold spaghetti on a sandwich.

by Anonymousreply 10May 25, 2023 5:10 PM

R9 - there's actually a better way to heat up left over pizza.

Shrimp and grits or fish and grits

by Anonymousreply 12May 25, 2023 5:16 PM

Cod, prunes.

by Anonymousreply 13May 25, 2023 5:18 PM

Just give me gruel.

by Anonymousreply 14May 25, 2023 5:20 PM

Love all sorts of breakfast dishes. But if I have leftover spaghetti (or linguine or fettuccine), I make a spaghetti frittata. Tons of good recipes online. So so good.

by Anonymousreply 15May 25, 2023 5:29 PM

Doesn’t “traditional” depend on your country?

Miso soup is not uncommon in Japan for breakfast.

by Anonymousreply 16May 25, 2023 6:33 PM

R16 yes... I am in the US and not Japanese but, I see your point.

by Anonymousreply 17May 25, 2023 7:11 PM

R13, what a queer little child you must be.

by Anonymousreply 18May 25, 2023 7:34 PM

Kedgeree for breakfast is delicious.

by Anonymousreply 19May 25, 2023 7:36 PM

I fill up on caffeine , nicotine and pills for breakfast.

by Anonymousreply 20May 25, 2023 7:57 PM

Chicken fingers. Jane's are my favourite. If I have a couple left over from the day before thats what I'll have.

by Anonymousreply 21May 25, 2023 8:08 PM

OP- You forgot to mention fruit. I eat fruit for breakfast three times a week.

by Anonymousreply 22May 25, 2023 8:10 PM

Isn't fruit considered a breakfast food?

by Anonymousreply 23May 25, 2023 8:12 PM

You all sound FAT.

by Anonymousreply 24May 25, 2023 8:14 PM

R23- He forgot to mention fruit 🍎 as a conventional thing to eat for breakfast .

by Anonymousreply 25May 25, 2023 8:14 PM

If I don't have cinnamon toast I have what's left from another 'regular' meal. Breakfast food is not that great.

by Anonymousreply 26May 25, 2023 8:40 PM

My usual breakfast is coffee and cheese toast, but I'll eat leftovers if it's something good.

by Anonymousreply 27May 25, 2023 8:43 PM

Hummus toast on English muffin is good. I like to put feta cheese and maybe some of those sun dried tomatoes that come in the bag. Top it with an olive oil or balsamic drizzle.

by Anonymousreply 28May 25, 2023 8:47 PM

Yes. Breakfast is open to any entree and closed to sweets except pie and proper crumb cake.

by Anonymousreply 29May 25, 2023 8:54 PM

Today I had Fritos and salsa for breakfast. Tonight I'm making chili, some of which I will undoubtedly eat for breakfast tomorrow.

Sometimes I'll eat cold pasta, if it's already sauced. But usually I like to reheat it. Pizza must be reheated, in the oven, if you're me.

by Anonymousreply 30May 25, 2023 9:07 PM

I eat rice pudding, cake or pie. Or cold pizza.

by Anonymousreply 31May 25, 2023 9:10 PM

The rest of yesterday's pint of ice cream is my Breakfast of Champions. (It means I didn't eat the whole thing last night.)

by Anonymousreply 32May 25, 2023 9:15 PM

I chose a cigarette with a couple sips of hope.

by Anonymousreply 33May 25, 2023 9:21 PM

I don't like cereal, pancakes, and breakfast foods for breakfast. Ever since I was a young kid I would have soup or pizza or something you would have for lunch I would eat for breakfast. I was lucky that my mom didn't mind as long as I ate. Now I can't even eat anything before noon no matter how early I get up.

by Anonymousreply 34May 25, 2023 9:38 PM

Intermittent fasting. I don't eat until after 3:00pm.

by Anonymousreply 35May 25, 2023 9:46 PM

For how long r35?

by Anonymousreply 36May 25, 2023 9:52 PM

Sometimes I ear sandwiches or breakfast, not egg-and-bacon sandwiches, but regular sandwiches with cheese or pb&j or something.

It's considered normal in South America, every hotel breakfast bar there has sandwiches fixings. And cake.

by Anonymousreply 37May 25, 2023 9:52 PM

Cake is a good breakfast food, r37. But it has to be good cake.

by Anonymousreply 38May 25, 2023 9:54 PM

I'm not always consistent, but the point/practice of intermittent fasting is to have a period of 15-20 hours every day without food.

There was research demonstrating its efficacy, then research challenging that, then more research confirming its benefit.

What's not in dispute, lowered total calorie intake correlates to longer life. And an empty stomach and hunger is good for my soul.

by Anonymousreply 39May 25, 2023 9:55 PM

Poached eggs and salmon

by Anonymousreply 41May 25, 2023 10:06 PM

I never want to eat anything soon after I wake up. I get a large coffee with milk (no sugar) at the corner deli on the way to the subway, but generally don't eat a meal till around 1 pm.

by Anonymousreply 42May 25, 2023 10:41 PM

Why don't you make coffee at home, r42? So much better. So much cheaper.

by Anonymousreply 43May 25, 2023 10:43 PM

I've never made my own coffee, and at 60 don't plan on starting. As long as it is very hot and caffeinated I'm good with it, and at 2 bucks for 18 oz I'm fine with the cost of the convenience - the milk would probably go bad before I got through a quart as well.

by Anonymousreply 44May 25, 2023 10:54 PM

[quote]OP: I’ve been known to eat salad for breakfast or some of yesterday’s leftovers.

Oh, yes, OP. We know. We read about it in all the magazines.

by Anonymousreply 45May 25, 2023 11:08 PM

I hate drinking coffee out of to-go cups. Or those adult sippy cups people use for driving.

by Anonymousreply 46May 25, 2023 11:09 PM

Brownies.

by Anonymousreply 47May 25, 2023 11:12 PM

Tuna Casserole

by Anonymousreply 48May 25, 2023 11:15 PM

Yogurt, granola, and fruit.

Also, have no objection to cold pizza.

by Anonymousreply 49May 25, 2023 11:17 PM

While I do eat regular breakfast things, one and a while I'll have something like an empanada, egg roll, Jamaican chicken patty, turkey sausage roll, or spanikopita.

by Anonymousreply 50May 25, 2023 11:18 PM

My Easter morning and day-after Halloween breakfast was 100% candy

by Anonymousreply 51May 25, 2023 11:30 PM

I could have written every word of this. It's just coffee and water for me until lunch: "I can't imagine putting food on an empty stomach."

The Vietnamese consider pho a dish for all meals. If I had to eat breakfast it would be something like that: a savory with lots of protein.

by Anonymousreply 52May 26, 2023 12:04 AM

I like chocolate cake and vanilla ice cream for breakfast (left over from the night before).

The day after Thanksgiving, I like to have leftover stuffing and gravy, turkey, and potato salad. I don't really like ham, but I do like leftover Thanksgiving ham with eggs, or a ham and cheese omelet.

by Anonymousreply 53May 26, 2023 12:09 AM

Kippers (smoked herring) used to be very popular in the UK.

My own cold vomit from the night before.

by Anonymousreply 56May 26, 2023 1:11 AM

It’s been soup the last three years - I make it from scratch so there is always a lot. This fridge is tiny.

by Anonymousreply 57May 26, 2023 1:30 AM

Coffee with half and half and 3 cigarettes.

by Anonymousreply 58May 26, 2023 1:44 AM

Cold pizza is my favorite breakfast.

by Anonymousreply 59May 26, 2023 2:31 AM

Cold brew or iced coffee with a nice bowl of weed

Something savory if hungry - definitely not breakfast food. Ramen, leftovers (Chinese or Thai for breakfast is fabulous)

I do enjoy some breakfast food, just not at breakfast time. This irks others, I do not care.

I will eat waffles for dessert, cereal is great stoner food that covers my munchies well, I’m an egg slut and will eat them constantly but maybe only soft-boiled in the morning. Put a runny egg on anything and I will give it a go

by Anonymousreply 60May 26, 2023 3:01 AM

I don't like cold pizza, for any meal.

by Anonymousreply 61May 26, 2023 3:05 AM

I like an early breakfast of edibles.

by Anonymousreply 62May 26, 2023 3:09 AM

Could we have kippers for breakfast?

by Anonymousreply 63May 26, 2023 3:10 AM

^^^ St Swithyn’s Day already?

by Anonymousreply 64May 26, 2023 3:15 AM

Hey, R58. Your post reminded me of when I lived in Budapest. Years ago. A cafe I frequented featured an “American Breakfast” on its menu. As you’d expect, eggs, toast, bacon, etc. But I never tried the “Hungarian Breakfast”: espresso, a pack of smokes, and the morning paper.

by Anonymousreply 65May 26, 2023 3:24 AM

Don't drink the milk.

I liked muesli with mountain view.

by Anonymousreply 67May 26, 2023 3:43 AM

I do kind of miss my days of cigarettes and Diet Coke in the morning.

by Anonymousreply 68May 26, 2023 4:25 AM

Oatmeal is non-traditional for me. So now that we're talking about it, I'm going to have a small bowl tomorrow with greek yogurt, dried fruit and nuts mixed in.

I really tend not to be a "sweet" breakfast person (pancakes, waffles, cold cereal) and like my savory breakfasts, but I'm thinking it might be good to mix it up a little and not constantly have an egg (in some form) on mornings I *do* eat breakfast.

by Anonymousreply 69May 26, 2023 4:29 AM

^^Forgot to mention I ADORE cold (or hot) pizza for breakfast.

by Anonymousreply 70May 26, 2023 4:30 AM

Soup for breakfast in the winter is great. But so is coffee and soup and coffee dont mesh.

by Anonymousreply 71May 26, 2023 4:33 AM

I have oatmeal one of two ways, with parmigiano-reggiano and olive oil, or else vanilla, honey, cinnamon, and fruit if I have some.

by Anonymousreply 72May 26, 2023 4:34 AM

Peanut butter on toast.

by Anonymousreply 73May 26, 2023 4:36 AM

I have sufficient.

by Anonymousreply 74May 26, 2023 4:43 AM

I cook exotic grains for breakfast nearly every morning. Quinoa, Millet, Buckwheat, Amaranth, Brown Rice, Bulgur, Oatmeal, Grits. I don't oversweeten them. I use a pat of salted butter and a just a little bit of sweetener on them. Afterwards, I have a glass of soymilk. I feel better on this diet, and am often not even hungry at lunch time, so for that meal, I'll have something very light, like a PB&J sandwich, or a piece of cheese and a piece of toast with half an apple or half an orange.

Spicy foods don't appeal to me for breakfast, but if I were desperate, I'd definitely eat leftovers from the previous night's meal. At Thanksgiving time, I will have a piece of pumpkin pie for breakfast, or some sausage dressing.
