Do YOU believe Judy Garland's death was the impetus for resistance at Stonewall?

I'm not sure if this can even be proven, despite some sources claiming to disprove it.

Sure nobody was like "For Judy!!!!" *punch*

But it makes total sense that the emotions surrounding her funeral inspired gays to fight back that day.

OP, you get bonus points for an original and compelling thread idea, but the most thoughtful posters on this topic are, I fear, dead.

Doesn't matter, OP. It's become a part of the mythology and is very fitting.

It was me, and only me.

My name is Marsha P. Johnson, but you know me better as....

by Anonymousreply 3May 21, 2023 1:17 AM

Marsha was a HUGE Garland fan. She threw the first brick at the Hollywood premiere of A Star is Born. Had she been alive, Marsha would been asked to throw the first gold brick at the premiere of Oz.

Judy's spirit materialized, threw the first brick, and asked for a drink.

^And was then asked by every fag in the place to sing "The Man That Got Away."

Who!

by Anonymousreply 7May 21, 2023 1:41 AM

I think it sounds somewhat implausible, but who knows. Today’s young gays can be pretty unhinged when it comes to the vapid divas they worship, so …maybe.

Seriously r8, I wouldn't dare cross some of them over their beloved icon.
