Death Saved Them

On another thread someone wrote something along the lines that Peter Jennings was "fortunate" to have died prior to the MeToo movement.

Who else, had they not died, would have suffered Mario Batali-Harvey Weinstein-Prince Andrew-like consequences?

by Anonymousreply 70May 24, 2023 2:42 PM

Harlan Ellison, for sure.

Oliver Reed.

Death allowed Oswald to be considered a patsy by some misguided souls.

Not exactly a direct fit for this thread, but I find this story intriguing none the less. My mother was a teacher in the 50s and 60s. She held back a student whose family was very unhappy about it at the time. Decades later he married into extended family and my mother and he met at a family event. He thanked her for holding him back, as when the rest of his classmates graduated and were sent to Vietnam, he still had high school to finish and his number wasn’t called up until later, at which point the war was concluding and he didn’t have to go. Many of those in his original grade didn’t return. Flunking second grade saved him from being in the Vietnam War.

R12 David Icke published that Jimmy Savile was a pedo and a child procurer when Savile was still alive. But it was David Icke so everyone ignored it. People knew about Mountbatten too.

by Anonymousreply 27May 20, 2023 4:26 PM

I am curious about Peter Jennings and John Denver. I was aware of infidelity in John Denver’s life but not harassment or assault. Does anyone have more info?

by Anonymousreply 28May 20, 2023 4:27 PM

R27 Speaking of Savile and spoilers for anyone reading Maggie O’Farrell’s memoir I Am, I Am, I Am, which is about her 17 brushes with death. The most chilling thing beyond the slipping past the jaws of death is that at one point she was hospitalized as a child and completely incapacitated. There was a nurse on duty with her 24/7 because she could do nothing. Jim Savile came to visit her and repeatedly tried to dismiss the nurse watching her, telling her that he’s special and does it all the time at the hospitals he visits. Though brow beaten, she refused and remained with them the whole time. She evaded molestation because a nurse did her job correctly and didn’t get swayed by celebrity.

by Anonymousreply 29May 20, 2023 4:46 PM

I wonder how much the children's hospital nurses knew in those days, or suspected.

Nurses have a hell of a rumor mill, just so you know, they let each other know about people who might need keeping an eye on.

Steve McQueen, the 1960s actor. Kept suite at Beverly Wiltshire for auditioning young women for roles in movies that didn’t exists. He was a huge drug user too, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he drugged the women, like Cosby.

Maria Schneider was one of them

For sure JFK. And MLK. And RFK. Had the latter x2 lived, so much would've come out about their affairs. RFK would've survived and we all know Horseface Ethel would've stood by him. I think Jackie and Coretta would've darted.

by Anonymousreply 39May 20, 2023 10:03 PM

R33, Grace Kelly died tragically in 1982. Had she lived much longer, it’s possible she too would have come out with her own story. Because of her death over 40 years ago, we’ll never know for sure.

Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis and all the other hillbilly celebs who went after 13-14 year old girls.

I'm sure a lot of the 60s and 70s pop and rock celebrities took advantage of fans/groupies that age too.

by Anonymousreply 43May 21, 2023 2:12 PM

I’m surprised Howard Stern has managed to survive the Me Too movement.

by Anonymousreply 44May 21, 2023 3:26 PM

Howard Stern was always too germ-phobic. However the reason Peter Jennings is on the list is his alleged, reputed visits to the Empire Hotel with a young ABC. employee named David Muir.

by Anonymousreply 45May 21, 2023 4:10 PM

R45, yes, but there are countless video and audio out there of Howard asking women sexually inappropriate questions, telling them to get into a bikini or take all their clothes off, or demanding they do lesbian stuff. If they didn’t comply, all the men would egg them on, and Howard would threaten to boot them out of the studio. The women would be very uncomfortable. And then there are the women who would come on the show to have their bodies evaluated, and some of them would wind up in tears.

by Anonymousreply 46May 21, 2023 4:31 PM

Another vote for Jimmy Savile. I didn’t know who this guy was until he died. Holy fuck, what a creepy, sick bastard. I hate that he died before getting his comeuppance.

Muhammad Ali got a 16 year old girl, Wanda Bolton, pregnant at 32 while he was still married to Khalilah Ali. He also married Khalilah when she was 17 and he was 25, they met when she was 10. He’d be called all types of predator and groomer if he did that today.

R8, no rumors about Peter Jennings with girls, though it was known at ABC that he enjoyed Afternoon Delights with David Muir at the nearby Hotel Empire.

Peter Jennings and David Muir??? Really??? Do tell …
