Young Robert Sean Leonard was a beauty!

Loved this movie! All the kids were handsome & it was just so beautifully shot, particularly that scene of the kids crying in the snow after Neil's suicide. I always thought a melancholy Robin Williams was far better than his manic personality. Not that he's done badly, but it's kind of surprising that RS Leonard didn't have a bigger career.

Robin Williams gave one of his best performances in Dead Poets Society.

A great but far less well-known Robin Williams film, where he also plays a high school English teacher, is the black comedy Worlds Greatest Dad. They're kinda a yin-yang comedy-tragedy Robin Williams high school teacher pairing.

There could have been such good nudity in this film. What a waste.

Kurtwood Smith wasn't just a hard ass husband and father as "Red Forman" on "That 70's Show). He got practice early on as Neil's father.

Have never understood why WASP parents seem to relish destroying their children.

Neil must have got his father's foot up his ass on the regular.

This was the movie in which I fell in love with Ethan Hawke, Josh Charles, and Robert Sean Leonard. Especially Ethan Hawke.

Impressive list of alumni. No longer all boys though, St. Andrews went co-ed long time ago.

Pretentious shite, puddle deep.

I always preferred Robin in dramas like this, Awakenings, One Hour Photo, & especially The Fisher King.

"You just signed your expulsion papers, Nuwanda!"

by Anonymousreply 18May 17, 2023 3:46 PM

So young! Weren't they all so handsome.

One's middle teen years through twenties is a magical and golden time. Pity we only get to do it just the once. Sadder still few of us realize just how special a time it truly is in our lives until far later.

Kurtwood Smith's character reminds me of my own dad in many ways

by Anonymousreply 21May 17, 2023 4:50 PM

I saw it in the daytime in a theater in a small NJ town with my mother. We came out into the parking lot, and lo and behold, Robert Sean Leonard had watched it there as well as a local New Jerseyan. My mother complimented him, and he was gracious. A few years later I worked on a set with him, He was reserved, pleasant and seemed older than his years.

by Anonymousreply 22May 17, 2023 4:57 PM

You poor bastard!

by Anonymousreply 23May 17, 2023 4:58 PM

Robert Sean Leonard loves his home state of New Jersey.

"Neil must have got his father's foot up his ass on the regular."

My old man was one of those hard assed "so long as you're living in my house you'll live under my rules.."

Fixed that by going off to college, moving to my own apartment afterwards and basically earning a living so needn't as that man for anything.

by Anonymousreply 25May 18, 2023 10:28 PM

I want to suck the marrow out if life!

by Anonymousreply 26December 5, 2023 9:13 PM

Seriously, just watched it and I took a photo of that quote about living life to the fullest, it's a great reminder. I stupidly thought the dad was going to be bowled over when watching his son on stage. I watched it years ago and remember it was a sad movie.
