It's funny how much Kate Smith was set up for ridicule for DECADES; she looks positively sylph-like compared to some of these hoggers today.

I know she lost weight in her latter years, but even at her heaviest she wouldn't be out of place at Walmart or Golden Corral, or Olive Garden.

The only time I ever found Mario Cantone entertaining was in his one man show, Laugh Whore. He did a bit about this, talking about Kate's hair shellacked into a big wave and Tina and Cher ignoring her, bumping and grinding and licking their own nipples like they were in a porn. If you can get your hands on a bootleg copy, I highly recommend you do so-- there's a small number of clips on YouTube but the whole thing is great.

Kate must've had some agent in those later-career years. She seemed to have a nostalgia-era resurgence and was appearing in various variety show venues, including her own specials, alot still into thev1970s. I wonder who dreamed up this particular show's randomy guest-stars lineup!?
