She’s a Trumper, she’s against universal healthcare, and now she’s being trashed by union members for this video. She was also against the Covid mandates.
How Was Fran Drescher Elected President of SAG?

Maybe Mr. Sheffield bribed the voters.
If Half-Pint can beat Rhoda, anything is possible.

I have a friend whose husband is in SAG-AFTRA leadership and she was so angry that Fran ran for the position. She said it was a heated race against Matthew Modine.
Apparently, candidates on the union belong to factions that are like political parties, and Modine ran as part of the 'membership first' faction:
[quote] Modine, whose credits include “Full Metal Jacket” and “Stranger Things,” was making his second bid for president on the Membership First slate. Membership First has been around since 1999, and generally takes a more militant line on contract negotiations.
So it seems Fran likely won not necessarily on her own merits but because of the faction she chose to represent.
But she probably also won because this is the country and era in which Donald Trump was elected president, which is to say that people who vote today are idiots who want to follow idiots.

Why is she a Trumper?

Interesting that Joely Fisher got more votes than Fran did for a lower office.
[quote] In a close race, Drescher defeated Modine 16,958 votes to 15,371, while Fisher beat Rapp 18,547 to 13,593. A total of 122,154 ballots were mailed and 32,362 were returned (26.49%). Turnout this year was considerably higher than two years ago, when only 21.2% of the members voted.
[quote] Fisher, the daughter of former SAG secretary-treasurer Connie Stevens, amassed nearly 1,600 more votes than Drescher.

R5 I don't know if she is a Trumper, but she's a Trumplike fantasist.
During COVID, she bizarrely claimed that COVID is caused by 5G Internet.
She overcame cancer and like a Trumpy scammer, she launched her own cancer foundation, which largely promotes rejection of standard cancer treatments.
And so of course she is anti-vaccine and opposed the industry's vaccine mandate during COVID.
[quote] Drescher continued, “When equal citizens stop being equal, when cards must be presented to identify whether you are included or excluded, we stand at the tipping point of an America I no longer recognize.”

R5, ask her. She said he says what people are thinking are thinking. After the backlash she said that she didn’t support him. She does. She’s a Right-winger. That’s her right of course but she’s heading the union and does everything to help management.

Do SAG presidents serve just two years or more?
by Anonymous | reply 13 | May 13, 2023 7:17 AM |
The Drescher campaign alleged that Modine and Fisher (Membership First candidates) violated election rules by taking part in a taped interview with a “biased” journalist, using employer resources to promote themselves in the election. Meanwhile, Drescher shared a political faction (Unite for Strength) with outgoing president Gabrielle Carteris, and may have herself received preferential treatment. The linked article is an entertaining writeup of the scandal.

r3, interesting enough, Mr. Sheffield's portrayer supported Modine.

As someone who has followed Fran's career for years, she's definitely not a Trumper. If she was, she's one hell of an actress. For the most part, she's always been an old school Clinton-loving democrat, and she was never afraid to show that. At least that's how she has presented herself for decades. She was a massive Hillary supporter. She was never MAGA when Trump was running, or president. Her short-lived husband, the guy who claims to have created email, did turn into a total hard-right, Trump-loving type that tried to run for office during the Trump years. She divorced him then, I believe, as he completely disappeared from her life very quickly at the time.
All that said, she IS sadly a total loon when it comes to science/medical/heath issues, which is ironically her post-Nanny, post-Cancer calling card. She's always been somewhat prone to believing in some loony shit, especially the pseudoscience stuff regarding "health and wellness". Contrary to what some may believe, plenty of folks on the left (and independents) can lean into the conspiracy, pseudoscience crap....just from their own angle. It's not, and has never been, exclusive to right-wing/MAGA folks.

Sure, Fran…
Funny woman Fran Drescher isn’t writing off fellow celeb and presidential candidate Donald Trump.
“I think he is very funny, and I think he is actually saying a lot of things that other people don’t really have the guts to say and for that reason I applaud him,” she told FOX411. “I think that [it’s] high time. I think he is a businessman, and he is not dishing out a lot of BS.”
Drescher, who held the Fran Drescher Women’s Health Summit on Monday, seemed none too impressed by the government when it comes to health issues.
“I don’t really look to the government to do whole lot, because frankly they are kind of broke, and there is a lot of money in sickness,” she said. “Forget about government. Don’t look to them to help you. They will catch up to us.”
Drescher became a household name as the star of “The Nanny,” but she has since made headlines for her out-of-the box thinking.

by Anonymous | reply 22 | May 18, 2023 7:20 PM |
The truth is Modine makes Fran look like a Rhodes scholar and as kooky as she is she has done what I think is a creditable job representing all SAG-AFTRA members.
She worked diligently with other guilds and unions on the "Back to Work" agreements which were very successful. You'd be surprised how many people who actually work and earn their full living as actors aren't quite the flaming liberals you'd think. Fran has worked very openly and I think well with Joely Fisher who was in the Membership First group with Modine, which is where all the GOP types are, and hasn't been fractious or partisan with any groups within the union.
I think most members think she's doing a good job.

How does an offhand comment published by Fox News prove she’s a Trumper to you loons? Is this like when you screaming Clinton queens thought David Lynch was a Trump supporter because of an offhand comment? How moronic the 24/7 news cycle has made some people…

As I recall only about 20% of SAG-AFTRA members bothered to vote and it was a very close race decided by just a few percentage points.
I have not heard that SAG members "despise" Fran Drescher at all. She has been in DC twisting arms to get the tax rules for performing artists changed as actors who are really independent contractors are paid by regular payroll checks who are union paymasters acting as their employer of record. Basically the Trump tax changes affected them more than average as a working actor now cannot deduct any of their expenses including 10-20% they pay out to their agents and managers.
