2 1/2 late, Babyface forced to cancel for her.
This reminds me of a Donna Summer concert I went to in Massachusetts back in 1991-92. Tommy Davidson of 'In Living Color' was supposed to be her opening act with his comedy routine, but the train he was on coming in from NYC was late. Summer came on stage and explained to the audience that she would start her show, but once Davidson was settled in she would take a break and let him do his comedy for us. And that is exactly what she did - after about an hour, she got word that TD was backstage so she welcomed him and she exited the stage. She came back out afterwards and sung for another 45 minutes.
At the end of his set, Davidson took a few minutes to personally thank Summer for letting him do his job in the middle of her show. I remember he broke down in tears on stage and said not many performers are as gracious and professional as Summer - others would have told him 'too bad' and he would not have performed, and he would not have gotten paid that night. But Summer was a 'class act' and he would be forever grateful to her. Summer, in return, came out to the stage and gave him a huge embrace and told him he was a wonderful entertainer. The audience gave both of them a standing ovation, while the next day local critics praised Summer for her professionalism (and the great evening the two of them gave their audience).
For the record, Davidson was funny as hell - I'm glad she gave him his time on the stage.
