Penny Mordaunt (sword-carrying lady) looked fantastic. Beautiful tailoring and lovely, unusual colour.
Beatrice, who copied Penny's headdress, also looked great: a simple, beautifully cut and coloured dress and the right accessories. Putting Eugenie in the same list with her is ridiculous.
India Hicks (who joined the commentary team but I'm not sure whether she went to the service), was also supremely stylish.
Princess Mary, like Kate, knows her own style well and therefore almost always manages to look effortlessly elegant. Olena Zelenska is similar: both pretty women who know how to enhance their looks without clutter.
We really didn't get to see Kate's dress until the offical photos were released, when it was apparent it didn't disguise that she is too thin, but it's nice that she and Charlotte team. It's cute, but moreso it's a way of including the spare in the main game. They both had great hair. In fact, it was heartening to note that dangling tendrils and the never-seen-a-hairdresser look seemed to have died the death among the entire congregation. That's not a stab at Meghan: it was a fashion, which happily seems to have run its course.
Despite not being a fan, I've got to give Harry points for making an effort with his clothes, and to good effect.

I agree ^^. I thought Penny Mordaunt looked wonderful. I also think Harry looked very good, too.

Penny stole the show. Her outfit was striking and I loved the embroidered touches.
Beatrice looked the best she has ever looked. The magenta color was fabulous on her and she looked fit and slender. Gotta keep in shape for the Italian, but really, bravo to a woman who is so often ridiculed for her looks.

I liked Finnegan Biden, Queen Letizia and Queen Maxima’s outfits. But the one who I loved? Queen Suthida of Thailand. She brought it both days in these gorgeous ethnic Thai outfits made of the most sumptuous silks. The quality of that fabric was something else. Plus she blinged it out both days. I suppose it’s compensation for being married to one of the weirdest men on the planet.
Honorable mention to the Sheikha of Qatar. For a chubby chick, she did good in Dior. It was a grand look but not over the top. But she better watch it, her hubby is pretty fit, best she loose the chub.
Worst: Katy Perry, Queen Rania and Princess Charlene.

Beatrice's dress was beautiful, even if from some angles the gathers from the waist to her bust gave her the appearance of having super-nipples.
The headwear was atrocious, though.

💃 Remember when Kate was once the budget friendly queen who had no problem recycling her royal wardrobe. This Fearless Bitch was not above wearing the same outfit twice?
Her daughter was also wearing Alexander McQueen at the Royal Coronation!

Agree with r1 on all of it. I also really loved Charlotte’s headpiece. Didn’t quite go with the dress, but it was perfection.
And Princess Anne in her military dress always thrills me.

Who did Emma Thompson piss off?
by Anonymous | reply 10 | May 10, 2023 2:25 PM |
That's one of the things I love about these royal events: seeing the lesser known royals, all decked out in their ceremonial outfits. Bea did look lovely (though the headpiece was not great). Aside from his weird smile, Haz looked well put together.
I was actually kind of shocked by the sight of Emma Thompson; she's been matronly, but now she's approaching Hyacinth Bucket territory.

but she did wear a tampon soaked in vodka
by Anonymous | reply 12 | May 10, 2023 2:35 PM |
Why do Beatrice and Eugenie always look so bad and make such bad clothing choices?
I just don't understand. It's almost as if they do it on purpose as big FU to the media or something because no one could have that poor fashion sense when they have access to people who'd style them for free.

I actually think Bea's improved significantly since her marriage; maybe it's because she's pregnant or maybe she's mad over the treatment of her father, but Eug seems to have a perma-scowl in her face these days. Not to say that a woman has to constantly smile, but with the extra weight & a sour expression, she looks just like the (dirty) old man.

Anne still has a great figure for her age, but she has to look silly in the hardware-store faux-military getup. Her father was a real sailor, as were two brothers, as is her current husband. But she never served in the armed forces. Her entire costume is honorary, and looks absurd on her.

R54 Everyone is acting very civil with the crowning. Harry went and avoided overexposure and being booed. Charles invited them, made his grandchildren Princess and Prince. Meghan seems to be better advised or maybe she finally realized she is part on the 1% of more luckiest women on earth and not a professional victim.
Anyway, everything is really boring.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | May 11, 2023 3:17 PM |
Penny Mordaunt - Perfection, especially for her role.
Likewise Kate and Charlotte's headdresses. You can tell Kate really understands the assignment.
Anne - fierce.
Beatrice - Beautiful color. Edo looked sharp as always.
Charlene - Does she have a stylist? Did she ask them to make her look like a linebacker?
Harry - His jacket was ill-fitting. Whomever did the tailoring should be fired because it looked off the rack. Tight in the neck and shoulders, loose in the torso. You can see from pictures from him entering WA the stitching on the backside of the morning coat was wonky (and wrinkled from being folded in a suitcase). Plus, he wore his lifts which was made even more evident as his hems fell ridiculously high. I would guess the palace did not offer assistance in dressing him.

R58 Harold’s suit was bespoke Dior. Obviously his wife made that choice. This fool has access to the finest Savile Row tailors and he goes for what she thinks is oh-so-high fashion. He looked like he had slept in it on his flight.

Dior, a French designer, for a British Coronation. How apropos for Harry. Although, I suppose, no British designer would dare touch him now. Still, you would think he had plenty of suitable morning dress in storage at his disposal.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | May 11, 2023 4:42 PM |
Have you looked into it? Apparently you have to book through a travel agency and do a guided travel package. They don't seem to allow visitors to roam free. I am very much a "roam free" kind of traveler. I like to get lost sometimes, or change plans on a dime. So that's a bit frustrating.
Another pretty far-out thing is the "sustainable development fee" of $200 PER DAY just to be there. It goes towards funding initiatives to "offset the carbon footprint of tourism, improve carbon-neutral infrastructure and upskill workers in Bhutan’s tourism sector, supporting Bhutan’s recovery from the pandemic." That's an extra $200 per day on top of accommodations, food, guided tours and attractions.
With all of that and the visa and flights, It's a big production. Having said all that, I think I could make it happen, hopefully even as soon as 2024.
What is your tee shirt size?!
by Anonymous | reply 64 | May 11, 2023 4:43 PM |

Zara looked really good, except that her hat looked like a deflated football.
I was disappointed in Joanna Lumley's outfit. She's an attractive woman and she looked like she was dressed for comfort, mostly. Yeah, the shoes looked like something you'd walk in the park with.
Princess Charlene was a swimmer, I think, and always had broad shoulders. However, she has put on some weight and was wearing a light color (which does make you look like you gained weight). I think she could have worn something that would have been more flattering. I would guess she's on medication. I think she had a mental breakdown within the last year.

R48 The Thai Royals have extensive real estate holdings worth close to 45 billion dollars in addition to billions worth of shares in Thailand's 2 biggest companies.
The Thai King is a puppet of the military junta, as was his father. The Royals were kicked out in the 1932 revolution and fled to Europe, becoming instant Eurotrash. A few years later there was a military coup and the family was dragged back to the Land of Smiles, unsmilingly, and reinstalled to give the regime some legitimacy. To help this along Thailand drafted the most draconian lèse-majéste laws in the world.
In order to keep their position and their munificent budget they do what the Generals order which always involves crushing any pro democracy rumblings.

She should take a note from Zara, a rather "built" woman ( a sturdy lass, you might say), but she always looks very stylish at formal events & sporty at casual ones. On the other hand, Zara & Mike always seem very happy together while Charlene & Fat Albert scream "Murder/Suicide". At least she's lost that crazy, chopped up hair.

R74, as you seem well informed, you know of course the long awaited (and delayed) free elections promised by the military are finally upon us, with another member of the Taksin family expected to win by a landslide this coming weekend. Will be really interested to see how this turns out and whether the military hand over power easily, or whether they pull a “Myanmar”.
As for the Bhutan tourism situation. Holidaying there is expensive by design. The local government wants only quality tourists, hence the various steep daily fees imposed to discourage the backpacking kind of tourism you see in most of the rest of Asia.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | May 11, 2023 11:39 PM |
R79 There is NO CHANCE the military will 'hand over power' easily. Popular votes don't count in Thai elections. In the last General Election, the anti-military parties won more popular votes than the pro-military parties, but that had little effect on Prayut’s “victory”. During and after that election, two opposition parties were dissolved by the military appointed judges on weak pretexts. The same could happen this time round.
In the coming election, none of the main political parties are proposing the basic democratic step of abolishing the draconian lèse-majesté law. This law is used by the military to defend its authoritarian policies, with the excuse that the military junta defends the monarchy and enjoys the support of the monarchy. So, to criticise the military or the monarchy is against the law. Many pro-democracy activists face numerous court cases and have been locked up using this law. Yet, it is not a symptom of the so-called “power” of the idiot King Wachiralongkorn. He enjoys the wealth and status of being King, but has absolutely no interest or understanding of politics and social issues, preferring to spend much time with his harem in Germany.

R79, yes Bhutan is able to control tourism, a pity as I would like to visit but the per diem is too much. It seems to be a very stable country. But those “quality tourists” that other, more precarious Asian countries seek? they vanish at the first sign of trouble. The low budget backpackers whose money goes to locally owned businesses ride it out.

Joanna Lumley has reached The Age of Comfortable Shoes (77 officially), and doesn't have a pretext to wear riding boots like Anne did. So I WON'T HEAR A WORD AGAINST HER, or her comfortable shoes!
Emma Thompson has also reached The Age of Comfortable Shoes, and I liked her overall look even if some of you bitches don't. Her low-heeled shoes had some nice details, her outfit was cheerfully colorful, and the husband on her arm looked very handsome. Nothing completes a look like a bit of eye candy.

R69, Penny Mordaunt is a huge trans ideology supporter and dictated to parliament and the country that it is not permissible to say anything other than "transwomen are women". She tried to force through self-id and would may even have succeeded if it wasn't for the Keira Bell ruling. Now that the mood has changed and people are no longer scared to refute that lie, she's trying to back-peddle, but we will never forget and her hopes of becoming Tory leader are very slim.
by Anonymous | reply 93 | May 14, 2023 9:10 AM |
Not to digress more, r93, but it suddenly hit me WHY a woman, any woman, would insist that "transwomen are women."
The operative word is "women." "Transwomen" must be supported in "rights," accommodations, competitions, nomenclature, indeed, total unquestioning acceptance, because....WOMEN.
So a man who declares himself to be a woman is, by declaration if not anatomy, regarded by most Liberal women as ONE OF THEM, SUPPORTIVE OF WOMEN'S RIGHTS, because how could someone "identifying" as a woman NOT be pro-women?!
Thus, that assumption becomes dogma which becomes rules which become laws.
To go back to Square One and discuss what this unquestioning acceptance of men as actual women might mean in terms of women and girls---their rights, privacy, opportunities, etc.---is to try to shut the proverbial barn door.

Lady Margarita Armstrong-Jones's skirt looked like pink packing material. I've seen quite a few people say they loved it, but I hated it. Then again, I thought Princess Charlene looked great but I don't think anyone else agrees.

I haven't been paying enough attention apparently because I didn't know Pippa Middleton now looked like a spinster schoolmarm approaching retirement age.

^ forgot DL’s antipathy to the Daily Mail. It’s a photo of Sarah Chatto who is always well dressed.
by Anonymous | reply 102 | May 15, 2023 11:31 AM |
R96 - I could work with the dress but the shoes need to be thrown on a bonfire. The dress would look much better with full length sleeves.
Dressing for a wife of a politician is difficult as you do not want to look like someone in the entertainment business, you do not want to look like you are cosplaying royalty and you cannot out dress the wife of the Head-of-State. It is difficult to get it right. As far as "prairie sister-wife" dresses go, Sam Cam's is really not that bad.
by Anonymous | reply 103 | May 15, 2023 12:14 PM |
R100 - Pippa is cosplaying her sister. Her sister wore a hat and outfit that is almost identical to Pippa's look.
by Anonymous | reply 104 | May 15, 2023 12:27 PM |
Kate didn't wear anything like what Pippa was wearing to the Coronation, r104.
by Anonymous | reply 105 | May 15, 2023 12:44 PM |
R104 that Pippa is a hard looking broad. It must be genetic somehow because a life of avoiding work and manual labor shouldn’t leave you looking like a council flat single-mother-of-five pack-a-day smoker after a double shift at Tesco.
by Anonymous | reply 106 | May 15, 2023 12:56 PM |
R100, Pippa could pass more easily for the sister of Meghan than Catherine!
R96, The dress is too youthful, also.
R97, From what I've read about her, "blush" is quite appropriate for Sophie T.!
Some of these women would dress better for a horse race!
by Anonymous | reply 107 | May 15, 2023 2:12 PM |
Working at Tesco is manual labor [sic], r106? Surely if you were getting your Brit stereotypes right, your council flat-residing, single-mother-of-five, pack-a-day smoker would be on benefits.

by Anonymous | reply 111 | May 15, 2023 2:36 PM |
R111, King Carl isn't unlined himself. Silvia wasn't always 79 years old!
by Anonymous | reply 112 | May 15, 2023 2:42 PM |
Was there a last-minute change to the dress code? So many of these outfits look off-the-rack and are paired with inappropriate hats and shoes.
Samantha Cameron's hat and wrap looked like they belonged to another dress. Johnson's wife had a spring hat with a winter dress and coat. Emma Thompson was also in winter clothes. Joanna Lumley looked like she found an old Simplicity pattern for a maternity dress circa 1962 and had a gown made from it.
Lady Louise got it right, an appropriate spring pattern in a modest and flattering dress. Many of the queens and royal wives went with the solid dresses, hats and coats in appropriate lengths, which is kind of the default royal dress, but always a good choice. Akshata Murty's simple outfit was lovely as well. If you're going to go with an old-fashioned fabric, go with a classic like Murty did, in an updated style.

by Anonymous | reply 131 | May 15, 2023 4:46 PM |
Brigitte Macron in Louis Vuitton was criticised. Some said that her outfit was more suited for the office than a coronation. I think she looks fine, far from the worst. I just don't like the bland beige colour. Maybe she chose it so as not to upstage the people who were supposed to be the center of attention.

I really love Brigitte Marcon's coat! Complete elegance, with a nod to her country's past military uniforms that is totally appropriate for the occasion.
But holy fuck it needed *something*, some color or some major jewelry! If she didn't have the nerve to wear it in a muted red, how about adding a bit of yellow or blush to that dull neutral? A hat with accents on it, some dangling earrings, anything!
by Anonymous | reply 145 | May 15, 2023 11:24 PM |
Madam Macron wore hosiery, FLOTUS should consider wearing hosiery for a polished look. The women in the British royal family wear hosiery, sheer expensive kind
by Anonymous | reply 146 | May 15, 2023 11:41 PM |
R128, FLOTUS certainly presents a good case for old women to wear pantyhose---to cover veins and splotches!

R122, Zara looks beautiful there!
by Anonymous | reply 149 | May 16, 2023 2:28 AM |
R148, I actually like the dress to some degree because it's wacky and interesting and shows creativity. It's just not appropriate for a conservative event like a coronation. Maybe it would work at a party for a fashion institute, something where wackiness and creativity are expected.
by Anonymous | reply 150 | May 16, 2023 4:58 AM |

Julie Bishop wearing a dress by Australian designer Nikki Zimmerman.
It wouldn't look too bad if we couldn't see her bra. I assume that's what it is, not an actual part of the dress.

Queen Mathilde of Belgium
The colour and style of the dress aren't very sophisticated. It looks a bit like something Barbara Cartland would wear.
by Anonymous | reply 154 | May 16, 2023 5:28 AM |
Another fail from Princess Charlene of Monaco at the Coronation Reception. Part of the problem is she has a broad shouldered, somewhat masculine build.
Yet she looked so beautiful at her own wedding.

Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, at a garden party at Buckingham Palace, which I believe was part of the coronation festivities.
Blue lace dress from Suzannah London.
To me the dress looks very matronly and incredibly unfashionable

[quote]Therese Coffey definitely was one of the worst dressed
She was, she was going for the classic elderly old-money eccentric look, and she did fairly well, but you can't really pull it off unless you genuinely ARE old money and over 70.
by Anonymous | reply 162 | May 16, 2023 10:17 AM |
R153 - It is part of the dress.
by Anonymous | reply 163 | May 16, 2023 11:30 AM |
R153, that’s the lining of the dress. She’s probably wearing a strapless underneath. The dress itself is a bit fussy. Those flowers around the neck would be scratchy and annoying. Still, it looks designed vs the dress Princess Victoria of Sweden was wearing which looked like a fit pattern sloper.
by Anonymous | reply 164 | May 16, 2023 12:18 PM |
This has nothing to do with the coronation but Kate knows how to upstage the blood royals because she's very pretty and very thin and usually has a better sense of style.
by Anonymous | reply 165 | May 16, 2023 12:52 PM |
If Duchess Sophie's dress at R159 were floor length, it wouldn't look out of place on "Little House on the Prairie".
It looks like the kind of dress someone's grandmother or elderly aunt would wear decades ago at a church function to let everyone know just how prim and proper they were.
by Anonymous | reply 166 | May 16, 2023 1:08 PM |
Yeah, Lady Louise won't be borrowing that one.
by Anonymous | reply 167 | May 16, 2023 2:15 PM |
True, R161. This Nicky Zimmermann dress looked quite nice on Kate.
I guess that would have to be part of the dress's lining and not Julie Bishop's bra 😆. For such a high profile event, Nicky wouldn't design a semi-transparent dress and trust Julie to put on whatever bra she liked.
Plus designing a dress that deliberately shows off a woman's bra would be a little too vulgar for a coronation.
by Anonymous | reply 168 | May 16, 2023 3:00 PM |
Good points, R164.
by Anonymous | reply 169 | May 16, 2023 3:02 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 170 | May 16, 2023 3:06 PM |
Julie Bishop's clothes are usually very put-together, so it's unlikely she would deliberately choose a dress that would show off her bra in an effort to be fashion-forward. It's probably just the lining but it didn't work out well.
