Why do todays "Ladies" Dress like Wh0res?

Halle Bailey and her Sister showed up to the Little Mermaid premiere looking like glow in the dark wh0res. Why do these "Ladies" have to show so much skin? Gone are the days when Female Stars dressed elegantly like, Gene Tierney, Gloria Swanson, Merle Oberon, and Kay Francis.

"Ladies" of today need more Class.

It's a fun, pretty dress except for the boob overexposure. Maybe she's looking for a sugar daddy.

When I read your question about 'ladies' dressed like sluts, I immediately thought you were talking about Bravo Housewives who dress like actual middle-aged (older) prostitutes who trade sex for money.

I'm surprised by your reference. You chose to zero in on a very young woman who plays a mermaid in a movie and who wore a mermaid-style dress on the red carpet and looked fine.

Meanwhile, these women...

I tell you, if Mr. Mayer had ever seen one of us dressed like that, with all our skin showing, he would have snatched us up, took us right straight to Adrian's office, and said, "Teach this tramp how a LADY dresses in the evening."

What happened to glamor? Mystique??

by Anonymousreply 10May 9, 2023 7:43 AM

It seems like many clothes available to women currently tend to be super small and revealing or tight.. Maybe due to popularity ? I was talking with my sister about this. She is 50, and is finding it difficult to find skirts that are below the knee length that are even available. We were joking that it may be because of a fabric shortage in many ways. There were some truly nice clothes at the Coronation. Not the cosplay ones, but from some of the guests, although I dislike the matching hats some of the women wore. Some of the hats were weird little things perched sideways on heads, but the ones Catherine wears sometimes that look like flying saucers on the side of her head are annoying.

I feel like I am totally alone in being grossed out by the 'boob sling' trend pictured in R8. It's like the tackiest of Frederick's of Hollywood lingerie. Actual pornstar attire.

I don't understand the trend of entire breasts hanging out with a strap across the nipple. It's so vulgar to me. I don't want to see that much boob or dick or vagina or balls or ass hanging out on anyone. It's so ick.

I was JUST thinking the exact same thing as I perused WWHL episodes on Peacock. Almost every one of the women in the episode thumbnails was dressed age-innapropriately with her tits hanging out and her face botched with plastic surgery. Of course many of the women who go on that show are "Housewive" types so they're phony as hell to begin with, but still. Seems to be an epidemic of whore-like behavior going on. It all comes off as so sad and desperate.

by Anonymousreply 25May 9, 2023 9:35 AM

Mermaids have breasts, and in their natural underwater environment, they'd be topless, so I don't see a problem with the dress. She's showing the world her twins.

by Anonymousreply 26May 9, 2023 9:46 AM

The problem is self-expression vs. "please, love me! Please validate me!". Red carpet looks are supposed to be shared by the media to give the celebrity and the maybe the designer of the gown great media exposure. Our society, through the means of pop culture, is obsessed with the latest ideal of beauty. Looking young and "fresh" is beautiful, showing your skin is beautiful and so empowering, apparently.

It's the same with guys. Showing up without a shirt on a red carpet event surely gets you some attention. Even the show "The Other Two" pointed this trend out in its first episode of season three.

by Anonymousreply 27May 9, 2023 9:57 AM

by Anonymousreply 29May 9, 2023 10:12 AM

OP are you 200 years old?

Women have been publicly dressing in scantily clad clothing since the 80s when it became mainstream. That was the decade of open jackets and lingerie as outer wear.

As a gay guy I don't mind it. I just wish men would start dressing as sexily

now I agree not every event calls for little to no clothing but in general I'm fine with it

by Anonymousreply 30May 9, 2023 10:12 AM

[quote]Women have been publicly dressing in scantily clad clothing since the 80s when it became mainstream.

I think the trend of women wearing dresses that expose 3/4 of their breasts is more recent, maybe the last 5 years. I agree that it's vulgar and desperate but the women act like it's liberating.

by Anonymousreply 31May 9, 2023 11:11 AM

R31 Yes, the whole-boob-in-a-sling look is within the last five years or so. Clothes like that have been available from trashy lingerie retailers since at least the '80s for sure, but not as formal attire that would have been acceptible in most social settings. The Bravo Housewives are 50-to-70-year-old-women who go to expensive restaurants in Dubai with flesh-wrapped silicone bags barely restrained by strained Spandex strips.

It makes sense given that this is the era of actual celebrities starting porn accounts to rake in cash from horny fans before their freshness expires, but it's definitely a new porn-inspired phenomenon.

The Little Mermaid's red carpet dress was very tame compared to her Grammy's dress.

And it's JLo's fault, because that Versace dress MADE her back in the day, and now all the tartlettes are trying their hand at it.

Too bad that excellent stylist quit in a huff.

[quote] It's like the tackiest of Frederick's of Hollywood lingerie. Actual pornstar attire.

^right here, what r12 said.

I'm a fan of the old FoH lingerie look. Tawdry allure is one of life's aesthetic pleasures.

Still, depending on its cut, when I see a woman, at any age, wearing something that has sleeves, whether short or long and the skirt portion has a bit of length, counterintuitively, she actually looks fresher and younger to me than letting it all hang out.

by Anonymousreply 38May 9, 2023 11:41 AM

[quote] And it's JLo's fault, because that Versace dress MADE her back in the day, and now all the tartlettes are trying their hand at it.

This is the age of 'body positivity' and 'sex positivity,' in which we are supposed to celebrate people who fuck on camera for money, so I don't see what the pearl clutching about booby dresses is—from a moral lens, anyway.

I am clutching my pearls about them because I think they're grotesque looking. I don't want to look at anyone's organs hanging out.

by Anonymousreply 42May 9, 2023 12:20 PM

Yup, I wouldn't want the world's most handsome, sexiest man dressed in revealing, tight clothes at a formal event either (although guys get mocked when they dress in a sexy way; gender double standard). At a porn awards show it's fine.

by Anonymousreply 43May 9, 2023 12:32 PM

It's harder for a man to 'dress sexy' because dressing sexily tends to mean in a way that reveals taboo parts of the body, and the genitals are the only part of a man's body that are taboo. There's no real male counterpart to a woman showing a little cleavage. Shirts unbuttoned down to the navel on a guy does not have the same effect at all because nothing under a man's shirt is thought of as taboo.

by Anonymousreply 44May 9, 2023 12:38 PM

If a man wore tight pants that really showed off his butt, he'd be called homophobic slurs by straight men.

Sorry, R44, but if a guy showed up at a formal event with his shirt unbuttoned showing too much chest, I'd still think he looked trashy, like a gigolo or a pimp.

It's not nice to say but women are still valued for being young, beautiful and sexy (not trashy), while men are valued for being accomplished in their careers and financially well off.

Sex and erotic life like everything else has been turned into a cheap product - people turn their sexuality into an aesthetic performance, it is something to be conspicuous and rated amongst the other available products. hypersexual media and kids are watching porn probably from elementary school but at the same time our culture is returning to puritanism, men fear approaching or communicating with women age gaps are more and more frowned upon , young people are having less sex less often, incel numbers exploding, etc. All of this energy is being redirected into the fake life that people live through their selfies, social media posting, etc. This is THE most sexless cowardly and asocial generation ever, their bold aesthetic choices are like a way of coping with that fact.

by Anonymousreply 51May 9, 2023 1:49 PM

The old Hollywood glamor look, while timeless and heaps better than these fan-dancer get-ups, lost some mystique when many of the starlets went that route.

True, R74. The part of her outfit that covers her groin couldn't get any narrower without her getting arrested. Poor thing is desperate for attention. Her kid and grandkids will be very proud.

She looks like she's going to a porn awards show or advertising as an escort for the yacht set.

by Anonymousreply 78May 11, 2023 11:19 PM

Um no, R77. I wouldn't want the sexiest, most beautiful man to dress in such a revealing way. There's a time and place for dressing like this and a formal event is not it. Nobody wants to deal with a person showing their sexuality in such an in-your-face way. All the photographers taking pics of the girl on the right are thinking "puta".

There's a difference between sexy and slutty. So you're saying women are valued for being young, beautiful and sexually desirable, R77. Sounds antifeminist to me. (Btw, I know you're trolling, R77.)

by Anonymousreply 79May 11, 2023 11:28 PM

R78 the tiny Asian lady standing behind her looks more chic and effortless and stylish imo. Her hair is down and simply parted, her makeup isn't obnoxiously contoured, and her earrings are somewhat smaller, so she looks less severe and hard and OFish than the starlets up front. Her sleeved top makes her seem a bit more self-possessed and easier to look at than the others, somehow--however she could have got away with collar or wrists on show, since it was a red carpet and all. I really like her long black skirt, though unfortunately the way it trails on the ground does emphasise her natural shortness. Her sequinned heels peeking out from under the skirt are fabu as well. It's like she rolled out of bed, grabbed a few random items and threw together a genuinely adorable and slightly fun flirty outfit without thinking or trying too hard.

Why should anyone be shocked by nepotism 'model' Kendall Jenner? Her entire family are uninteresting grifting whores. Over the past few years, the outfits Kendall wore to the Met Gala had zero to do with fashion or style, she looked like a cheap whore.

Ken-Dull knows nothing about style. She sure doesn’t exude individual style, no matter how much the media pushes her on the public, there’s absolutely nothing there.

Kendall, and her equally fake plastic surgeried swollen lipped sister, both look like low rent trash. I don't care if they were in expensive designer clothes at the various Meta Gala events, they always look as if their clothes were purchased at Fashion Nova.

It's really sad that some young women aspire to look like so many of these empty-headed uninteresting whores. None of them would be considered It Girls.

by Anonymousreply 97May 13, 2023 2:32 AM

[quote]I agree about Bella Hadid's surgeries. It's incredibly well done.

Well done? Are you serious? Bella looks like a fucking alien. There’s nothing attractive about this ‘model’. Bella is yet another nepotism model. Yawn.

Bella tried her darnedest to look like former model Carla Bruni, who also had odd plastic surgery, especially her nose. Who would think it's a good idea to tell your plastic surgeon to recreate the face of a famous former fashion medal? Did Bella think fashion people wouldn't notice?

In the past, fashion models were actually natural beauties. Now these boring women are sliced and diced to fit some bizarre fake criteria.

IMHO. Bella and her ilk are not actual models. There's nothing special about her or her face, at all.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 98May 13, 2023 2:43 AM

R98 Beauty is subjective. I think Hadid's surgeries were very successful. She is more conventionally attractive than she was before the surgery, which is the generally the goal of such surgeries.

[quote] Bella is yet another nepotism model.

Yeah. That's how the annoying 'American Dream' idea works: one generation gains access to wealth and power and hands that to its children so that everything comes to them more easily.

RFK, Jr. is a kook who is only running for president because of nepotism.

Nepotism is omnipresent.

It actually makes a lot more sense to me in modeling than it does in any talent-based industry, or business or politics or anything requiring experience and ability. Modeling (regardless of 'skills' taught on ANTM) is solely about appearance, and appearance is inherited.

Angelina Jolie is both a nepotism baby and the product of intentional breeding for beauty if her father's claims are to be believed. He chose a woman to impregnate based on her appearance so he'd have attractive children who'd have an easy time getting into the entertainment business.

Funnily enough, a couple of decades ago, she was celebrated for being Jon Voight's daughter, Michael Douglas was celebrated for being Kirk Douglas's son, and on and on and on.

by Anonymousreply 99May 13, 2023 8:02 AM

R99, your bizarre ideas about modeling are based upon what's going on today. People who became models due to nepotism rarely existed in the past. You sound like a typical teen-20+ year old who gets their info via social media.

Your definition of The American Dream is also wrong too. Some poor people who have achieved The American Dream can spoil their kids rotten, give them everything money can buy, unfortunately, lots of those kids end up being bums and losers.

Who the hell mentioned ANTM? I work in fashion advertising, we never found models via this route, nor via nepotism. Nor were past models in need of completely new faces in order to become a model. Bella Hadid is a joke. Reality TV has ruined so much.

The most famous models of the past were literally discovered on the street or simply while going about their lives. A female relative is a model, she was literally discovered by two Ford bookers while going about her life shopping in Greenwich Village with a friend. I have connections but she never asked for help or ever wanted to model.

In the past, nepotism had next to zero to do with women or men becoming models. Do your research. One very famous fashion model was discovered while riding the subways. Models in the past didn't need any connections, only their natural beauty, being thin and their height. Bella is sure no natural beauty.

by Anonymousreply 100May 13, 2023 9:27 AM

Why bring up two performers who got their foot in the due due to their famous parents?!

Both Angelina Jolie and Michael Douglas more than proved they have acting talent. Most talent-free 'nepo-babies', we never hear from again.

[quote]Modeling (regardless of 'skills' taught on ANTM) is solely about appearance, and appearance is inherited.

Did you re-read what you wrote before posting? If that's the case, Bella No Belle, sure did NOT inherit her current face. Her original plain fug face sure was inherited, she resembles her father, especially her original nose. What she looks like now has nothing to do with genes.

Of course, in most cases, appearance is inherited, however, many naturally beautiful models have average looking parents. Those models hit the genetic lottery because some relative way back was gorgeous.

Don't any successful models actually seek out a modeling agency themselves, R100? It's hard to believe that never happens, that they're always discovered on the street going about their daily lives.

Madonna's daughter wouldn't get any modeling work at all if she didn't have a famous mother. She certainly doesn't look like the typical model. Designers know that including her in their fashion shows will automatically get them a certain amount of press.

R106 I'm sure it's almost all done on social media now.. i did see a TikTok video by a woman who said she is a model and she gave tips on using social media to seek out modeling scouts and agents, prepare a portfolio of pictures and etiquette on DMing them professionally. I think she said most scouting is done on social media because it's easier and also because numbers of followers are a primary factor and asset for any model today.

Rose McGowan bears a lot of the blame for ushering in the skank apocalypse on the red carpet. She wore this outfit made of floss at the 1998 MTV VMAs. Granted, it was for MTV, but it reeked of desperation, especially for the 1990s. She should’ve skipped the floss and worn just the thong. The effect would be the same.

Yes, in the past, an aspiring model would get a portfolio together and try to book an interview with a legit modeling agency, but many models really were discovered while going about their lives. Halston fave, the model Pat Cleveland was discovered on a NYC subway.

As for the current crop of nepotism models, most of these women are not conventionally beautiful or even interesting looking, They are there because of their connections, usually a reality TV connection. I'm totally baffled by Bella Hadid's success, she looks horrible, there is nothing about her which is interesting. I can understand her sister's success, Gigi has an interesting look and if she had plastic surgery, it's not as obvious as Bella's fake alien face.

I agree about Lourdes Leon, she looks like any other Jenny on the Block, there is nothing about her which screams 'fashion model', she's only there due to her famous mother. On the other hand, Lourdes doesn't seem to get hired for any major ad campaigns. Not to mention, she's not even thin enough to be considered a model. This young woman needs to get a job, there must be something else she can do.

Nah, Lourdes doesn't need a job. I assume her mother covers all her bills. If Madge suddenly cut her off, she'd starve to death.

Not a job to earn a living, just something to keep this empty vessel occupied. How about helping out with one of her mother's charities?

You know, to become a productive member of society, not just another tedious trust fund asshole, the type who is always photographed at some shallow party.

I feel bad for well endowed women because there's something sloppy looking about it even if it looks fine on women with small breasts. It's like how some girls got called out in school for inappropriate clothing all the time, even though it was the same thing other girls were wearing. Certain body types just stand out more in revealing clothes. Otherwise, it was a cute dress. Looks like a mermaid.

Good point, R111. She does need some productive way of filling up her days.
