The last known photo of Queen Elizabeth II

This was taken a couple of days before she died, I believe.

Even though there is nothing sad or depressing about this photo, for some reason, it still makes me feel sad and anxious.

MARY!

by Anonymousreply 1May 7, 2023 7:15 AM

Probably because she really looked every one of her 96 years here, OP.

Elizabeth was a sturdy broad well into her 80s.

by Anonymousreply 2May 7, 2023 7:17 AM

I’m certain she never spared you a thought OP so cheer up!

by Anonymousreply 3May 7, 2023 8:44 AM

She always seemed warm and wholesome compared to Charles. The optics are we went from a warm grandmotherly figure to a tyrant.

by Anonymousreply 4May 7, 2023 8:52 AM

Elizabeth was many things, but for the biggest part of her reign she was rather aloof.

by Anonymousreply 5May 7, 2023 9:47 AM

It makes you feel sad and anxious because she was about to meet Liz Truss, OP.

by Anonymousreply 6May 7, 2023 10:31 AM

I like that she wears makeup but that they made no attempt to cover the blue hands.

by Anonymousreply 7May 7, 2023 10:54 AM

She should have shook things up and appointed a different PM. At her age, and in her condition, what would they do to her?

by Anonymousreply 8May 7, 2023 10:58 AM

Nothing, but she couldn't appoint a different PM. All she could do was sign off on Parliament's recommendation and shake hands.

by Anonymousreply 9May 7, 2023 11:14 AM

Hindsight being 20/20, she looked like shit.

by Anonymousreply 10May 7, 2023 11:22 AM

She looks like the dead babysitter in the Christina Applegate movie of the same name.

by Anonymousreply 11May 7, 2023 12:07 PM

I've never seen a photo of her where she wasn't holding a pocketbook.

by Anonymousreply 12May 7, 2023 12:28 PM

She carried that handbag to her grave.

by Anonymousreply 13May 7, 2023 12:33 PM

^ She kept a billion pounds in that purse, just in case of an emergency 😏

by Anonymousreply 14May 7, 2023 12:42 PM

I actually love this picture. Despite dealing all the health deterioration from simply being 96, she seemed to be in great spirits and very happy until her last day.

by Anonymousreply 15May 7, 2023 12:54 PM

I agree, R15. She did not look like she would be gone in a couple of day.

by Anonymousreply 16May 7, 2023 2:28 PM

A “warm grandmotherly figure”, R4? The woman who shook hands with her young son when being reunited after a long separation? Anything Charles is he got from his dear mother.

by Anonymousreply 17May 7, 2023 2:33 PM

She looked old, but she didn’t seem to be near death. I wonder what Charles did with the pillow he held over her face.

by Anonymousreply 18May 7, 2023 2:36 PM

^ Prince Chuckles: "What is this plug for?"

"Oops!"

OP The old bitch lived to be 96 in good health till the end in the bloody lap of luxury. She did jack all. What's to feel bad about? Are you a simpleton?

by Anonymousreply 20May 7, 2023 4:51 PM

I feel for her.

by Anonymousreply 21May 7, 2023 4:51 PM

Age 96 or not, still feels kind of creepy seeing a photo of someone alive and smiling one day, and then neither others or the person themselves knowing that in a couple of days they'd be dead in a casket. (Although I think Liz never really knocked off and is just strapped into a royal armchair in the royal basement, pressing remote controls and moving the arms and speaking the words of Charles, Camilla, William, Kate -- and, especially, that evil Charlotte! lol)

by Anonymousreply 22May 7, 2023 10:27 PM

[quote]till feels kind of creepy seeing a photo of someone alive and smiling one day, and then neither others or the person themselves knowing that in a couple of days they'd be dead in a casket

What you're saying is, In the midst of Life we are in Death.

Yeah, it's creepy. It's life.

by Anonymousreply 23May 8, 2023 6:50 AM

The other aspect of this is how extensively her entire life has been documented, from the time that she assumed the throne age 26 until she died 70 years later.

See link for an example. Same woman.

She’d try to give the King a glass of the Lady Ursula’s homemade gooseberry wine and fall down drunk.

Sheridan would be trying to get Prince Harry in a toilet alone.

by Anonymousreply 25May 9, 2023 3:53 AM

Her death was so well timed, wasn't it.

by Anonymousreply 26May 9, 2023 4:17 AM

They euthanized her to save face. She was barking. She chopped her beautiful hair off and that was the last straw.

When you are that age, do you live in constant fear that you are going to drop dead at any moment?

by Anonymousreply 28May 10, 2023 3:24 AM

Not if you’re wise r28. Would you want to live in fear like that? I do not, which means I have to accept death, and add a twist of c’est la vie, oh well.

Also, as you age, you should be coming to face with your own mortality, which is a process not unlike Kubler-Ross’s “Necessary Losses”. Pay attention to where you’re at with the concept of death, of losing someone now, of you dying right now — are you super healthy, meaning full acceptance of death, no regrets, or the opposite, which terror of death and being unable to discuss the topic, much less think about it. Or somewhere in between? What emotions come up? What is the hardest part? How can I grow from this process?

by Anonymousreply 29May 10, 2023 3:50 AM

You are sorely missed, Ma'am!

by Anonymousreply 30May 10, 2023 5:38 AM

The pic reminds me of JFK in the motorcade pre-assassination. Both so full of life, with no hint the end is nigh.

by Anonymousreply 31May 10, 2023 5:43 AM

She was obliged to get up when she was very sick and see off the corrupt moral void that is Boris Johnson, and receive the insane disaster capitalist Liz Truss as the new PM. She took her role extremely seriously. I’m a republican, but I have to respect her determination.

by Anonymousreply 32May 10, 2023 5:49 AM

If the reanimated corpse of Bathilda Bagshot was queen.

by Anonymousreply 33May 10, 2023 5:51 AM

Op, you dolt, that's not the Queen, it's Ian McKellen in drag.

Ok, so it's *a* queen.

by Anonymousreply 34May 10, 2023 5:55 AM

They photographed Queen Victoria on her deathbed.

When she debuted her fresh new look back in July, a DLer wrote "She looks like your Nana the first time you see her in the nursing home."

I wonder if she had significant hair loss due to an ailment. She may have been pumped full of steroids and speed for that last photo op.

by Anonymousreply 36May 10, 2023 6:51 AM

She had a hot ass. But she couldn't live forever.

by Anonymousreply 37May 10, 2023 6:55 AM

I wonder who the man is that we can see reflected in the mirror.

by Anonymousreply 38May 10, 2023 6:58 AM

What I see is someone who knows her duties are almost done.

by Anonymousreply 39May 10, 2023 6:59 AM

We saw the end of an era here. She provided stability for so long.

One wonders what’s next for this family.

by Anonymousreply 40September 4, 2025 9:23 PM

When I saw the blue hands I knew the end was coming. They must have given her enough medicine to get out of bed and fulfill her duty. Amazing thing in this day and age.

by Anonymousreply 41September 4, 2025 9:36 PM

Was she auditioning for the tour of "Mrs. Doubtfire"?

by Anonymousreply 42September 4, 2025 9:47 PM

She was a remarkably terrible parent. All her kids got embroiled in bad marriages and divorces and affairs with the exception of the faggy one.

by Anonymousreply 43September 4, 2025 9:49 PM

To be fair, Charles faced a lot of complications in choosing a wife that the rest of humanity usually doesn't face.

by Anonymousreply 44September 4, 2025 10:49 PM

[quote]She did jack all. What's to feel bad

You can debate the utility of what any ceremonial head of state does, but her life consisted of a lot more than doing nothing, and she escaped it only in death. I seriously doubt you could have coped with it. The idea of living her life depresses me.

by Anonymousreply 45September 4, 2025 10:53 PM

R45- Here's some bad English but so what, I don't feel good right now.

Is it known that heads of state would call her up and complain to her about this-and-that like they're taking to their grandmother, knowing full well she's going to be talking to another head of state a couple of days later who will chatter about the same thing and expect them to give them advice? I was told this by a guy (that knew her for fifty years plus) that she did that quite regularly in the last couple decades of her life, acting as go-between and the public had little to no idea of what was going on, and wouldn't believe it anyways.

by Anonymousreply 46September 4, 2025 11:01 PM

She must have been feeling cold.

by Anonymousreply 47September 4, 2025 11:05 PM

She knew death was approaching fast. According to Princess Anne, she had to be persuaded to go to Balmoral (which is where she wanted to be) because she feared it would be inconvenient to her family and people if she died so far from London.

I’m glad she died in the peace of Royal Deeside in her beloved Balmoral, just at that time when Scotland’s unpredictable summer softens into autumn.

It’s a fitting last picture of her: not majestic really, but an absolute reflection of determination and duty.

by Anonymousreply 48September 4, 2025 11:10 PM

[quote]To be fair, Charles faced a lot of complications in choosing a wife that the rest of humanity usually doesn't face.

The requirements were ridiculous. His wife had to be a virgin, for one thing. A young woman who was a virgin. In the late 1970s. In London. There were a very limited number of young women to choose from.

Everything would've been much better for all involved if Charles and Camilla had just been allowed to marry in the 70s. Camilla wasn't "suitable" because she had a reputation as a "party girl" i.e. she'd fucked a lot of guys.

by Anonymousreply 49September 4, 2025 11:19 PM

[quote]I actually love this picture. Despite dealing all the health deterioration from simply being 96, she seemed to be in great spirits and very happy until her last day.

She does seem happy and she can stand on her own, which is no small thing when you're that age.

by Anonymousreply 50September 4, 2025 11:26 PM

Both of my grandmothers lived out their lives in nursing homes. So seeing the late HM on her feet, looking cheerful, provides a cleansing image, when I know the truth was so much worse.

by Anonymousreply 51September 5, 2025 2:28 AM

Damn that’s the cutest photo too.

by Anonymousreply 52September 5, 2025 3:04 AM

Fuck that colonizer and her thieving family.

by Anonymousreply 53September 5, 2025 3:07 AM

Fuck your bottomless stupidity.

by Anonymousreply 54September 5, 2025 3:09 AM

R53 Why did you bother to even scroll through the comments, let alone open the post, if you already had such a psychopathic feeling towards another human being? My thoughts and prayers to you.

by Anonymousreply 55September 5, 2025 3:35 AM

[quote]She always seemed warm and wholesome compared to Charles. The optics are we went from a warm grandmotherly figure to a tyrant.

We know you feel that way, Meghan.

by Anonymousreply 56September 5, 2025 3:38 AM

Oy I remember this day just like 9/11. My friend called me to give me the dreadful news as I had already gone to bed. I was so upset I had to take sick leave and give up my tickets to the theater.

by Anonymousreply 57September 5, 2025 3:41 AM

Her exuberant smile tells us she did not fear death and met it bravely and contentedly. Just as she should.

by Anonymousreply 58September 5, 2025 3:44 AM

What a shame that her last Prime Minister appointment was Liz Truss who didn't last 50 days in office.

by Anonymousreply 59September 5, 2025 4:02 AM

A shame? It didn't matter to Elizabeth. She was long gone.

by Anonymousreply 60September 5, 2025 11:28 AM

She probably died happy, knowing that the appointment of Truss, hopeless as she was, at least prevented Boris Johnson from staging the next act of his ludicrous, vacuous Churchill tribute act during her funeral.
