Scott O’Hara
Someone recently posted a dialogue clip of THE OTHER SIDE OF ASPEN 2 on Instagram. I’ve watched it many times, but somehow I feel like I noticed Scott O’Hara for the first time.
I looked him up and am suddenly very interested. He had a corn-fed farmer boy face (he was from Oregon) and was quite strange looking, honestly. One of those hard to believe faces. He could change his appearance with different facial hair and colors. But he had a huge cock and a great ass, and was very sex positive, which is obvious on screen.
I was kind of amazed by his Wikipedia page. Besides doing porn and being a huge whore in San Francisco, was a gay punk poet, underground ‘zine writer, and a controversial HIV activist (he had ‘HIV Positive’ tattooed on is chest, and condoned intentional seroconversion at one point). He seemed apocalyptic, and hardly a pristine moral compass, but clearly there was a passion for fighting for his fellow queers going in his mind there. What in interesting person. Not a typical porn star. He died in 1995.

In my teens, seeing his cock in porn, made me feel funny in my tummy. He was a bad boy and exciting.

It’s a testament that as a porn star he has such a lengthy and complex Wikipedia page. The reviews on this Amazon page for his autobiography are all over the place.

I agree with some of his thoughts on relationships and sexuality in the theory, but not practice.
The “bug-chasing” stuff was cringe.

He got it honestly, though...
His mother, Scarlett, was pure hell on wheels.

“Scott ‘Spunk’ O’Hara, the blithe spirit who wrote about his hair falling out after chemo as cheerfully as he gave garden-house enemas in porn films, died quietly at home in San Francisco on February 18.”

Yeah, not for everyone’s taste to be sure. Grasshopper! N the capacity of the gay porn world I t fit his brand as a rebel. It’s unusual he was able to have roles in Falcon videos like Other Side of Aspen 2.
SF was rife with these “queer punk” and radical fairie types in the late 80’s/early 90’s. He seems to fit that type, and was probably well known in those circles.
I’m impressed with his body of work. Good on him!
I see no mention of him being in ACT UP, which would make sense. Though I imagine his radical opinions about HIV didn’t exactly jibe with theirs.

I read "Do It Yourself Piston Polishing (for Non-Mechanics)" decades ago and really enjoyed it, although I can't remember what it was about now.

Used to see him at the Y on Golden Gate years ago. I enjoyed his erotic fiction, but not any of his porn videos. He had a good amount of self-esteem.

I knew of him not through porn but from his writing/editing of Steam magazine. I’d been a faithful reader. Wish we had something like it now but I suppose it’s been supplanted by similar (if less enchanting) content online.

Scott was a hardcore musical theatre fan. The oldies, like Gershwin and Porter and Kern. Very much not what his image was.

His books are quite interesting. I wouldn’t want to have lived his life, but his outlook and attitude was refreshing.

Interesting bloke. Unfortunately to be an exhibitionist queer punk sexaholic in 1985 was not a good career move.

He died of AIDS, not poor career choices.

I would say being a professional sex worker and not using condoms is a poor career choice (if one wants to live)

I had a massive crush on him in the mid 1980s. His best movie was Al Parker’s “Oversize Load.” < About truckers, thank you.
His memoir was funny. He lived in a fairly open minded household. When he was 16, his mother walked into his bedroom to put his laundry away: while he was contorted on his bed self-sucking. She didn’t say a thing and only glanced at him before continuing to walk across his room and place the laundry basket near his dresser.
