That hairdo is incredibly aging. She was 36, for god’s sake.

by Anonymousreply 1May 5, 2023 5:34 PM

For god's sake!!!

by Anonymousreply 2May 5, 2023 5:40 PM

It was the '80s, r1.

Grotesque person. She just doesn't land well for me.

by Anonymousreply 4May 5, 2023 6:05 PM

r4 = the ghost of Adam Rich

by Anonymousreply 5May 5, 2023 6:07 PM

It’s interesting how a 36 year old looked in 1983 and these days what a 36 looks like

by Anonymousreply 6May 5, 2023 6:20 PM

BB had a habit of showing up after the half hour call and expecting to go on even though the understudy (Janet Hubert) was prepped and ready. One night she showed up late and was told to go home. That experience humbled her and it shows in her speech.

by Anonymousreply 7May 5, 2023 7:19 PM

Wasn't she coked out in those days?

by Anonymousreply 8May 5, 2023 7:23 PM

R8. Sadly, yes. I left that out but figured someone else would bring it up :)

by Anonymousreply 9May 5, 2023 8:21 PM

r9 I often left out her penchant for "opening her throat" before performing (although that might have been later than Cats)

by Anonymousreply 10May 6, 2023 11:45 AM

She was insufferable

by Anonymousreply 11May 6, 2023 11:51 AM

Wow that seemed a weak year for stars.

by Anonymousreply 12May 6, 2023 11:53 AM

Stars are ageless, r1, and I was the greatest star of all, r12!

by Anonymousreply 13May 6, 2023 12:29 PM

Hissssss!

by Anonymousreply 14May 6, 2023 2:55 PM

Bitch could hit a note.

by Anonymousreply 15May 6, 2023 3:31 PM

Was that award show filmed in someone's bathroom?

by Anonymousreply 16May 6, 2023 3:34 PM

I read the title and thought, 'Thelma Lou is still alive and appearing on Broadway?'

by Anonymousreply 17May 6, 2023 3:35 PM

Repulsive

by Anonymousreply 18May 6, 2023 5:30 PM

1983 was the first “official” year of the 1980s and with that its abominations in women’s hairstyles.

Betty looked much more natural and attractive as the gym teacher in Carrie.

No one ever sang that song better.

by Anonymousreply 20May 6, 2023 6:49 PM

An awesome performance by Betty. The song, devastating!

by Anonymousreply 21May 6, 2023 7:44 PM

MARY r21!!!

by Anonymousreply 22May 6, 2023 10:32 PM

Why don't people like her?

by Anonymousreply 23May 7, 2023 11:20 AM

Denny Dillon, Big Edie from Designing Women, a Tony nominee?

by Anonymousreply 24May 7, 2023 11:49 AM

R6-The first two seasons of the Mary Tyler Moore show Mary Tyler Moore had a very beautiful appearance and she looked like someone who was about 3031 but by the third season of the Mary Tyler Moore show she had a makeover and she looked 4040 years old plus for the rest of the run of the show.

by Anonymousreply 25May 7, 2023 11:59 AM

R25, I agree with that for the most part. I thought season by 3 & 4, Mary looked great, but less natural. Lots of eyeliner and big hair.

By season 5,6,7…she looked her age.

by Anonymousreply 26May 7, 2023 12:40 PM

Let's get back to the topic at hand, ladies!

by Anonymousreply 27May 7, 2023 12:59 PM

OKAY Op, you are my expert on Broadway stuff!

Why is Betty Buckley so disliked by the Gays& other Broadway people? What did she do wrong? Is she worse than Rita Moreno& Patti LuPone? I met Betty several times during the late 80's into the 1990's at several dinner parties when i was living in NYC (married to my ex-wife). She seemed nice, well she was nice to me!!

by Anonymousreply 28May 7, 2023 3:25 PM

Well, R7 and R8 for starters. Other than that I gather she is a basic garden variety diva.

by Anonymousreply 29May 7, 2023 3:33 PM

Could r15 - yes that’s the word, could.

by Anonymousreply 30May 7, 2023 3:36 PM

Betty is nothing if not a prolific re-tweeter

by Anonymousreply 31May 8, 2023 9:50 AM

Credit where credit’s due. She really did quite well in her early career.

by Anonymousreply 32May 8, 2023 10:45 AM

OP forgot to add, just before she won she did this....

by Anonymousreply 33May 8, 2023 11:28 AM

She refused to use the litterbox.

by Anonymousreply 34May 8, 2023 11:33 AM

Never liked her voice- the tone- too reedy- makes me cringe although her dynamics and power are pretty impressive.

by Anonymousreply 35May 8, 2023 11:40 AM

R19 your are officially mentally fucked up.

by Anonymousreply 36May 8, 2023 9:40 PM

Like watching a freak show

by Anonymousreply 37May 8, 2023 9:58 PM

She's eccentric and a little self centered but not mean or unpleasant. I don't know anyone who's worked with her who didn't like her. Now they didn't LOVE her but they liked her.

by Anonymousreply 38May 9, 2023 3:04 AM

Trumpian weirdness analyzed by Betty Lynn.
