Lace (1984) full miniseries on Youtube (my god wth is this?)

I always wanted to watch this infamous so-bad-it's good 80's miniseries, I have a sweet spot for 80's trashy miniseries, and just recently discovered it's on youtube, but after seeing part 1 I am regretting starting it. I have to see how it ends but it's so bad it's ....fucking awful. It started out decently enough but when the focus started on Phoebe Cate's character....my god, no wonder that woman left acting, I'd be embarassed to show my face after that....it really became painful. I don't know if I ever wanted a main character to die a grueling, violent, bloody ending so much in my life. Anyway, if anyone else wants to suffer along with me, here's the link.

Which one of you bitches is going to respond to this thread?

by Anonymousreply 1May 3, 2023 11:32 PM

It was pretty big at the time, OP.

by Anonymousreply 2May 3, 2023 11:37 PM

Incidentally, which one of you bitches is my mother?

by Anonymousreply 3May 3, 2023 11:40 PM

Ah the carefree 80s

by Anonymousreply 4May 3, 2023 11:44 PM

Good ol' Arielle Dombasle

Yep. Good n trashy. Memorable. I follow Arielle Dombasle on YouTube. She is another who holds on too closely to her image from 40 years ago

I particularly enjoyed "Lace 5" when it cam e out in 1989. "Which one of you motherfuckers is my second-cousin once removed?"

by Anonymousreply 7May 3, 2023 11:47 PM

Our favorite in college was "79 Park Avenue," but Loose Change has a place in my heart because we often quoted the line, 'We started out as freshly minted coins but now we feel like loose change." Especially after a walk of shame.

Watched it as a kid and read the book too. No wonder I turned out a little trashy!

by Anonymousreply 9May 3, 2023 11:52 PM

Phoebe Had the cutest haircut.

It definitely was. But everyone pretty much agreed that Phoebe’s performance was laughably bad. Though I do think people appreciated the (unintentional) camp element of the performance by the end.

by Anonymousreply 11May 4, 2023 12:17 AM

The book is even worse (more fun)

by Anonymousreply 12May 4, 2023 12:18 AM

Ok just saw the second part, it wasnt nearly as bad as the 1st because godawful Phoebe Cates was barely on. I did appreciate how even the real mother didnt seem to give much of a fuck about her, though I'd prefered she didnt go see that waste of space and stay with her friends, who were honestly the only good thing about this trash.

by Anonymousreply 13May 4, 2023 1:45 AM

Honestly I was kind of hoping they would leave it open ended, not one of those 3 women deserved to be saddled with that loser daughter.

by Anonymousreply 14May 4, 2023 1:50 AM

Dombasle was no Marie-France Pisier...

Still quote it to the day. It was must-see TV back in the day and everyone I knew watched it. (I was in high school, FWIW)

by Anonymousreply 16May 4, 2023 2:00 AM

Also can someone explain to me why the Phoebe Cates character knowingly slept with who she suspected could be her brother?

by Anonymousreply 17May 4, 2023 2:03 AM

You gotta let a ho be a ho

by Anonymousreply 18May 4, 2023 2:06 AM

I'd like to see Arielle and Brendad star in Lace 6: A New Millennium.

Shirley Conran's best friend was Mary Quant.

Phoebe Cates made Brooke Adams and Bess Armstrong seem like Streep and Close in this.

by Anonymousreply 21May 4, 2023 2:25 AM

The book had a guy shoving a goldfish in a woman's pussy and sucking it back out!

Do you think Shirley was mad that the miniseries completely cut her self-insert character, Kate?

by Anonymousreply 22May 4, 2023 5:18 AM

Well, boop boop dittem dattem wattem chu, r22!

by Anonymousreply 23May 4, 2023 2:39 PM

Also, what was it with that Honor Blackman character, was she trying to put the moves on Paggan?

by Anonymousreply 24May 4, 2023 2:45 PM

Okay, I watched the whole series on YouTube last night. Christ, was shit done in the cheesiest way back then. The 80’s was (were? unsure on verb agreement) truly a tacky decade. Also, I had not remembered this was made in 1984! I thought it was much earlier than that.

Watching it I could not come up with any actress that could have made Lily work. She was such a campy character. Who could do that well back then or now? A remake would be fun though. I embarrassed myself at the end by getting a little teary. I thought Phoebe was affecting in the final moments whereas Bess Armstrong not so much.

R25 I couldnt feel a goddamn thing in the end. 1, because I still wanted that Lily to die a tragic gruesome end, she was so unlikeable for no reason, and 2, I really didnt feel her real mama ,or the 2 other fake ones for that matter, gave a shit about her at all. Real Mama barely reacted to thinking the kid had died anyway and the ending seemed more like an after thought....as in, "well, she knows the truth, I might as well show up".

I LOVED the book, Lace was "hugely entertaining but trashy", have to reread it(like Scruples& Princess Daisy-Krantz)

Her dad was the Saudi Arab Prince who raped her mom the writer.

Which one of u Bitches remember this story!!

Give the poor woman a break, her dad got stuck in a chimney and died.

by Anonymousreply 29May 5, 2023 3:54 PM

R8, did you watch the original broadcast, when NBC ran Part 3 of the miniseries instead of Part 2?

After 17 minutes they realized they fucked up and had to do a live apology.

Any show which brings us Phoebe Cates saying in the most bizarre accent of all time, "which one of you bitches is my mother," deserves a DL Hall of Fame nomination.

by Anonymousreply 31May 5, 2023 4:39 PM

Lace and Lace 2, both by Shirley Conran, had the two best opening sentences ever.

Lace: "Scrape... scrape... scrape... Lili could feel the metal deep within her."

Lace 2: "They must be the most expensive breasts in the world, thought Lili as she soaped them."

by Anonymousreply 32May 5, 2023 4:51 PM

Lace 2023 - Which one of you trannies is my mother?
