Why Republicans Love Trump

He’s a fighter. They don’t care if he’s a criminal, because that’s on you.

by Anonymousreply 82May 6, 2023 8:49 PM

In other words, they like him because he is an asshole and insults people.

by Anonymousreply 1April 30, 2023 4:54 PM

They don’t care that he’s a criminal because their ends justify his means.

by Anonymousreply 2April 30, 2023 4:55 PM

Yep. He’s their mirror image. It’s only slightly shocking that they think he is a tough guy, when I’m reality he is a fat slob.

by Anonymousreply 3April 30, 2023 4:58 PM

They love him because Trump tells them it's okay to be racist, homophobic, xenophobic, anti-Semitic, anti-Muslim, and to revel in their ignorance and stupidity. He tells them it's okay to hate coastal elites and Ivy Leaguers/college educated, even though Trump is a member of good standing in both categories and even though Trumps surrounds himself with coastal elites and the college educated.

They love Trump and Republicans because they tell them to leave their brains behind, you don't have to think too hard, because we'll do all of your thinking for you and make the decisions that most effect your life for you.

by Anonymousreply 4April 30, 2023 4:58 PM

^ in reality

by Anonymousreply 5April 30, 2023 4:58 PM

I said a prayer that he will age 4 months for every 1 month.

by Anonymousreply 6April 30, 2023 4:59 PM

Because he feels no shame, which is their own personal goal.

They're tired of the concepts of guilt, of sin, of greed, of lying, of regret, of apology, of equality, of respect, of fairness, of peace, of generosity, of humaneness, of charity.

In short, they all envy Trump's depravities and his not only getting away with them, but his thriving.

by Anonymousreply 7April 30, 2023 5:00 PM

Well, at least the choice is clear in 2024:

Chaos or

Stability

by Anonymousreply 8April 30, 2023 5:01 PM

I heard on The Daily podcast that Trump would have to win Arizona, Georgia and Wisconsin to be re-elected. I think they said he has to win all three. I don’t see that happening so that was comforting.

by Anonymousreply 9April 30, 2023 5:05 PM

Biden could have a stroke . Anything can happen.

by Anonymousreply 10April 30, 2023 5:07 PM

I don’t know why a challenger doesn’t call out Trump for all his criminal and civil legal baggage. Just straight up say he is a bad candidate.

by Anonymousreply 11April 30, 2023 5:09 PM

America will never be the same because up til now, we gave people the benefit of the doubt that they were halfway decent and had half a brain. Republican, Democrat... liberal, conservative. We all wanted basically the same things.

But Trump exposed all the Haters; they'd finally found a Fuhrer who was going to make America straight, white and Christian again. And they were going to take all the marbles.

Trump is too old and doesn't really want to go back to Washngton. But who else is waiting in the wings to lead the Deplorables to the promised land?

We can never go back to innocence. But at least now we know the enemy.

by Anonymousreply 12April 30, 2023 5:14 PM

Agree. I think he is a symbol of white rage and the fear of diversity and losing control. So he represents and amplifies all their resentments and fears. I think they realize he is a jerk and a failure, but don’t care.

by Anonymousreply 13April 30, 2023 5:18 PM

On the bright side, half of them are OLD. On the not-so-bright side, half of them aren’t.

by Anonymousreply 14April 30, 2023 5:18 PM

A lot of Republicans are too dumb. Trump can not MAGA. I'm sick to see either Biden or Trump run for in 2024

by Anonymousreply 15April 30, 2023 5:27 PM

Republicans love Trump because he shares the same sexist, xenophobic and racist views as them.

by Anonymousreply 16April 30, 2023 5:32 PM

I thought polling said only 24% are MAGA. They seem like lemmings jumping off the cliff. Is Trump also planning to run in 2028?

by Anonymousreply 17April 30, 2023 5:34 PM

Hillary had their number with the basket of Deplorables. They'll glom on to any shitty person. Except Desantis because he has a whiny fag voice and is short

by Anonymousreply 18April 30, 2023 5:40 PM

R10, Trump could have a stroke. He's fat and eats McDonald's all day

by Anonymousreply 19April 30, 2023 5:49 PM

He must reek. Every sedentary person with a poor diet smells horribly. When they do break a sweat, they sweat grease. Revolting creature.

by Anonymousreply 20April 30, 2023 5:55 PM

Real patriots don't join the military. Real patriots don't join the Peace Corps. Real patriots don't volunteer for anything that will help better the nation or its local communities. Real patriots don't feel any sense of community with people unless they look and act just like them.

Real patriots can ignore the words and actions of Jesus while he was on earth and acknowledge that I am their Lord and Savior.

Real patriots sit in their Barko-loungers, watch plenty of reality TV, and send me cash checks on a regular basis and wave the Stars and Stripes at my rallies.

by Anonymousreply 21April 30, 2023 5:56 PM

Republicans are so hangry because the last Republican to win the popular vote was GWB in 2004. They keep losing elections so they get louder, but they can’t break through the nation’s dislike of them.

by Anonymousreply 22April 30, 2023 6:26 PM

Why are people playing this fucking game? Get your heads out of your asses:

A man who has already lost the popular vote twice, and has done noting to appeal to moderates, will not win an election in which the number of swing states has shrunk dramatically.

by Anonymousreply 23April 30, 2023 6:30 PM

R13 totally nails it with a perfect assessment of why they idolize him. Well done.

by Anonymousreply 24April 30, 2023 7:00 PM

R23, the Electoral College is expected to be close again in 2024. The election will likely be decided by a small number of votes in half a dozen swing states. And as R10 said, unexpected things can happen in a campaign. Eg. look at how Hillary was hurt in the polls in 2016 when James Comey intervened in the election. So Biden can't take anything for granted.

As R22 said, the Republicans haven't won the popular vote since 2004. That was the only time in the last 30 years they have won the popular vote. Ever since Bill Clinton's first win in 1992, the Republicans have been a diminished force compared to the power they were in Presidential elections in the 1970's & 1980's.

But Republicans currently have a disproportionate advantage in the Electoral College whereby although they now lose the popular vote by millions, then can still win the EC. If Trump becomes the nominee in 2024, he will have a shot at the EC. Dems will need another big turnout in the swing states to ensure a Biden win.

by Anonymousreply 25May 1, 2023 8:03 AM

I wanted to vote no but we all remember what happened in 2016 when nobody expected Dump to actually win. I still remember watching the results coming in and being flabbergasted.

Can he do it without Murdoch's support I wonder? But if he does win then there will be some very serious repercussions both within America and also internationally with allies who are just holding on hoping the US gets its shit together. It's going to go down like a lead balloon.

I voted not sure and let's fucking hope that he doesn't win. If he doesn't win - is he going to do another "stolen election" culminating in another insurrection campaign? I can't believe we have to go through this again.

Also - why the fuck is he not in PRISON for his part in creating and fuelling Jan 6th?

by Anonymousreply 26May 1, 2023 8:11 AM

On the upside - there will be hundreds of thousands of new young voters who will be eligible to vote in the 2024 election for the first time and their vote is going to be overwhelmingly about climate change etc.

They may hold the key to defeating Dump.

by Anonymousreply 27May 1, 2023 8:18 AM

[quote]Biden could have a stroke.

And Trump couldn't?

by Anonymousreply 28May 1, 2023 8:26 AM

[quote]I'm sick to see either Biden or Trump run for in 2024.

Both candidates are the same!

by Anonymousreply 29May 1, 2023 8:27 AM

I've got my fingers crossed R28 that he will drop dead on stage at a MAGA rally. That would be the best TV event ever!

by Anonymousreply 30May 1, 2023 8:30 AM

Trump loves his low education voters. He said so himself. He appeals to their darkest primitive instincts. It is amazing how much they are willing to ignore about his sleazy character.

by Anonymousreply 31May 1, 2023 8:45 AM

[quote]Republicans are so hangry because the last Republican to win the popular vote was GWB in 2004.

It's actually worse than that. They've only won the popular vote once since 1992. One time in the last 30 years.

When Trump first announced his candidacy, I thought he stood no chance, and would never secure the nomination. When he did, I was shocked, but sure that Clinton would win the election. When he won the electoral college, I was even more shocked.

Despite all that, I still think it was a fluke. And I have a lot of trouble imagining him securing the nomination in 2024. Not after two impeachments, an indictment, multiple lawsuits, and likely future indictments.

But I was wrong before.

Since he lost in 2020, I want to say that I'd be more comfortable with him being the candidate, then someone else, because he's lost to Biden once already. I would hate to see them nominate someone who might actually beat Biden. But at the same time, the possibility of a second Trump term is too scary to imagine. DeSantis scares me. I'm not sure there's a Republican out there that I'd be able to accept as a president. I don't know who I'd like to see nominated. They're all so horrible.

by Anonymousreply 32May 1, 2023 8:45 AM

There is always cause to worry, but I would be more worried if many of these swing states did not have Democratic governors. The Republicans will of course try to cheat but it’s harder to get away with when you have Democrats in charge.

I also think the Republicans will do everything they can to destroy the economy next year, in hopes that people vote Republican. But even then, I think Trump will lose.

by Anonymousreply 33May 1, 2023 4:47 PM

[quote]I also think the Republicans will do everything they can to destroy the economy next year, in hopes that people vote Republican.

That seems to be the Republican MO. Burn it down then blame the Democrats.

by Anonymousreply 34May 1, 2023 4:55 PM

Many believe that is exactly what they are going to do in order to make Biden lose the election.

by Anonymousreply 35May 1, 2023 5:07 PM

Not my words but I read something in the past few weeks that said it's because his followers cannot stomach the thought of having to admit that the libtards, the Dummycrats, the snowflakes were right about TFG all along.

by Anonymousreply 36May 1, 2023 5:23 PM

They like him because they are also criminals essentially as well as xenophobic racists. Most of his magats have criminal records and a include a lot of druggies.

by Anonymousreply 37May 1, 2023 5:28 PM

Abusers, racists, losers, and sore losers see a kindred soul in that rotund orange blob who has threatened to burn America down because she doesn't want him or hold to the same outdated value system.

They too would rather see everything destroyed because they cannot face they are in an ever-shrinking minority and we would all be fine leaving them behind.

by Anonymousreply 38May 1, 2023 6:04 PM

White non-Hispanics under 18 are already a minority in the US, and by 2045 all White non-Hispanics will be part of a minority. We will still be the largest racial group compared to persons of color in the US, but that's freaking insane MAGAs out. They've been in the majority for so long, that losing that standing is something they're willing to destroy the US over.

I am White. I only wish it could happen sooner than 2045.

by Anonymousreply 39May 2, 2023 4:52 AM

The whole idea that Trump or the GOP have any chance of winning anything in 2024 is a complete obsession and manufacturing of the American media that has always been infatuated with the American right, without fail.

by Anonymousreply 40May 2, 2023 5:41 AM

Trump gives them ratings, because he is an active and ongoing dumpster fire.

Biden is not exciting. But his administration is competent. If Trump gets near the White House again, it would be the doom of us all. He’s malignant cancer.

by Anonymousreply 41May 2, 2023 6:10 AM

[quote] Why GOP voters are so loyal to Trump

Let me save you the time reading the linked article. These people are in a personality cult. It's just that simple. "I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, and I wouldn't lose voters," remember that infamous quote? It was an acknowledgement that these people are his cultists.

The sooner that all Americans of voting age who are *not* in this cult recognize this simple fact and vote accordingly against him and all his enablers down the federal, state, and local ballots, the sooner we can back our democracy away from the ledge and move toward progress once again. Until then? Settle in for more chaos.

by Anonymousreply 42May 2, 2023 6:16 AM

If the economy tanks , Trump could win

by Anonymousreply 43May 2, 2023 6:43 AM

R40, both Trump and the GOP do have a chance of winning in 2024. It's not just something that the media is making up.

Trump has a shot at the Presidency because of the disproportionate advantage that Republicans have in the Electoral College. It's not fair, but that's the system we are stuck with.

And the GOP has a good shot at taking the Senate. There are 3 Democratic Senators up for re-election in 2024 from Red states:

1) Sherrod Brown (Ohio)

2) Joe Manchin (West Virginia)

3) Jon Tester (Montana)

All 3 face tough fights.

by Anonymousreply 44May 2, 2023 7:39 AM

R44, Trump has no chance.

And if you think the GOP is polling well, you must be pole troll instead of the poll troll.

by Anonymousreply 45May 2, 2023 1:33 PM

I think that there is a potential "falling out" coming for tRUMP with more of the gop voting bloc.

This morning the online Atlanta newspaper revealed that desantis polls better in Georgia than does tRUMP. Whether or not that is an outlier, I know not but it gives me hope that the myriad cracks already evident in his support will magnify and eventually lead to his ruination as a political candidate.

It's already apparent that desantis is a terribly flawed candidate AND PERSON so he will not be a successful national alternative for the gop down the road a situation which also gives me hope!

Poll TROLL has been very MAGA in his posts lately.

VERY defeatist for the Democrats.

by Anonymousreply 48May 2, 2023 5:28 PM

Isn't it ALWAYS a bad year for the Democrats in the Senate? I don't know how that is possible mathematically, but every two years it seems like we're coming up on another bad year, or at least tough year, for the Democrats.

by Anonymousreply 49May 2, 2023 5:39 PM

According to Poll TROLL, it’s always BLEAK for the Democrats.

by Anonymousreply 51May 2, 2023 7:01 PM

R45, R48 & R50, it is not being defeatist or MAGA to point out that the races for the Presidency and the Senate are likely to be hard-fought in 2024. Most respected political analysts and numbers crunchers expect this to be the case.

I didn't say that Biden and the Dems will lose -- just that it is important for the Democrats not to take anything for granted in 2024 after the close results of the previous 2 elections.

The Senate will come down to whether Tester (MT), Manchin (WV) and Brown (OH) can defy the trend of states almost always now voting the same way for Senate as they do for President. Steve Kornacki explained it here last week:

It's a combination of tribalism, racism and cult of personality. Anybody who supports and votes for Trump falls into one or more of these categories. It's basically WWE on steroid with Trump as the MC.

by Anonymousreply 55May 3, 2023 11:22 AM

The story linked below speaks volumes as to the problem the gop is facing and which will only get worse for them as time passes.

The Georgia billionaire who is the focus of the story was reported by another site to have interrupted the horrible tRUMPian election denying attorney cleta mitchell in the midst of one of her spiels. He spoke truth to power regarding her election denial but mitchell, and apparently much of the crowd at that gathering, would have nothing of his words of warning.

The gop is experiencing what may be described as a civil war and a battle for the soul of that party. If moderates and it's longtime wealthy donors don't successfully grab hold of the reigns of power away from the tRUMP faction, the party will be largely destroyed as a coherent national force that in any way is reminiscent of its past history. Instead, it could devolve into something of a regional political force. And that is a surefire recipe for failure in presidential elections!

by Anonymousreply 57May 3, 2023 3:30 PM

He reminds me of the old term" great white hope" but he aint white until you scrape off all that orange shit he covers his skin in. All the skeered white folk and the occasional black fans that may be trying hard to be accepted by crazy white people .... it is such an ugly and relatively massive group of "Americans" who love him and accept any and all of his bullshit. And I completely agree on Hillary's estimation of them as Deplorables. Many of them are way beyond deplorable. If I was not so damn old I would have probably moved to Canada during his time of being, hah, "president'.

I would slap on Kornacki's khakied ass. R52 Timestamps 2:16 and 3:39

by Anonymousreply 59May 4, 2023 6:39 PM

The secret to Trump's popularity with a certain segment of the population is not really difficult to understand and it has little to do with the argument that they are stupid "yokels." Trump is an alpha: uncompromising, dominant, unmerciful to his foes, loyal to no one but himself. He demands loyalty while giving none. He squishes opposition under his feet, grinding them into the ground and taking away any dignity they might have had ( Cruz, Christie, Jeb, etc.). This is very appealing, especially to the white male, who see him as the person they would like to be. They are constantly being told that they are irrelevant and disdained because of some " white privilege" that they never enjoyed. They are afraid and insecure in their own masculinity, living vicariously through a cowardly traitor because he demands to be worshipped, just as they want to be. They look at Democrats as the sniveling, demanding, effeminate vermin that they would rather squash than acknowledge. God forbid they have to put up with men who dress like women and demand their right to perversion. They are afraid. Nothing the Dems can do will make them abandon Trump, as they believe they are fighting for their very existence. It's very real in their minds, so the Dems shouldn't even attempt to win them over. The women are afraid for their children. What kind of world are they being left? So, they shrink into the Bible to try to come up with some foundation to combat the madness they see as threatening their formerly comfortable way of life. Trump is seen as a rock, a messiah who will fight the infidels and restore sanity to a society that has gone mad. Instead of seeing guns as a threat, they are seen as protection in case the effete "woke" try to conquer them by force the way they would like to conquer the "woke." Criminal charges, convictions, or whatever will not make them betray their loyalty to Trump. So, forget them and concentrate on the independents if you want to win an election. But, get some balls and stop being wishy-washy about everything. Come out and stand for something, not just continue with the " Please try to understand us and don't be mean crap." Where are the Democratic fighters?

by Anonymousreply 60May 4, 2023 6:43 PM

Oh please, Trump isn't a fighter for anything but feathering his own nest and saving his failing finances. He's a con artist who projects bluster and bullying, but rolls over for dictators like Putin, Xi, and Kim ("I get along very well with them!"). His supporters love him because they're natural marks and dupes, as well as being swine who love feeling superior while actually being the biggest snowflakes around.

by Anonymousreply 61May 4, 2023 6:49 PM

The question was, R6, " Why Republicans love Trump." My response is from their perspective. For them, they are correct. For everyone else, they aren't. So, we need to just forget them and concentrate on winning over the independents and holding onto the base, since the Trump supporters will do anything to protect themselves and their leader... anything.

by Anonymousreply 62May 4, 2023 7:02 PM

Trump will win the Republican nomination; however, he will lose in 2024 to Biden....AGAIN!!

by Anonymousreply 63May 4, 2023 7:42 PM

I am sorry to say that I believe if the 2024 vote comes in at 155,000,000 to 3 (Trump and his two sons) he will still claim it's fraudulent and will not concede.

There aren't many times I'm glad I'm old but you really do care less and less about things, such as this country going downhill for years to come. And it will be absolutely, 100% the fault of Trump. He fucked up his time in office and sowed divisions that will make Reconstruction-era America look like a paradise.

by Anonymousreply 64May 4, 2023 7:48 PM

You are forgetting the concerted effort of Republicans to prevent Dem supporters from voting and the inevitable vote tampering. They will cheat and do anything to assure a Trump victory and fascist rule. meanwhile, Dems, thinking that Trump has no chance will stay home because they think Biden is too old and their little fringe group didn't get enough attention.

by Anonymousreply 65May 4, 2023 8:17 PM
