Why did San Diego never earn a nickname?

What the hell is wrong with them

by Anonymousreply 12April 30, 2023 1:48 PM

I believe it is "A Whale's Vagina."

by Anonymousreply 2April 29, 2023 9:44 PM

R2 New York "The Big Apple" .... Minneapolis "Mini Apple" .... Boston "Bean Town

New Orleans "The Big Easy" - Atlanta "Hotlanta" - Los Angeles "La La Town" & "Hell A" - Chicago "The Windy City"

by Anonymousreply 4April 29, 2023 10:02 PM

well, apparently it's La La Land.

by Anonymousreply 5April 29, 2023 10:04 PM

Well, if Hotlanta counts as nickname, then maybe Sun Diego will do.

It never earned a nickname probably because it has no identifiable culture. It's a hodgepodge of the beach scene, Hispanic/Latino community living in the older neighborhoods, and white and Asian middle class professionals in newer subdivisions; in amongst a labyrinth of freeways, office parks, strip malls, and parking lots.

I'm not sure if they still do, but they used to refer to themselves as "America's Finest City." It was even on their police cars.

It’s blue collar with a little dab of money.

Ag, oil, military.

“Poor Folk Made Good” ?

I thought it was “Red City, Blue State”?
