It’s pathetic how every time it’s on TV we get all these threads about such a dumb movie.
Do we really need 100 threads about the Exorcist????
by Anonymous | reply 47 | August 2, 2023 7:40 PM |
Yep. We do. We need hundreds of threads about The Exorcist.

It’s not a dumb movie.

Well, TCM showed the theatrical version (with one exception: they substituted the 2000 WB logo for the original Saul Bass logo), and that's kind of rare now.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | April 27, 2023 4:20 PM |
Yes, we do we have to placate Azuz or whatever that Demons name is. Do you want to take that chance, OP.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | April 27, 2023 5:14 PM |
The 1974 version gave Warner Bros a lotta money in net profit. I helped count the money back in those days.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | April 27, 2023 5:20 PM |
Thanks for starting this thread OP, it was sorely needed.
Here's an update from CinemaCon, the trailer dropped yesterday and apparently scared the shit out of the audience.

Better Exorcist then Meghan Markle and that inbred German family, OP. That horse has been beat to death.

1973, r7.

Generally, when I see a topic in which I have zero interest, I ignore it and go on to something else. I "pass by on the other side," just like the man in the biblical tale of the Good Samaritan.
Incidentally, I believe that Exorcist 3 has the first installment beat by a country mile.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | April 27, 2023 9:15 PM |
r12 I keep trying to watch it but it starts off so slow. I keep hearing how it's actually good.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | April 27, 2023 9:18 PM |
R11. You're right. It was released the last week of 1973.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | April 27, 2023 9:23 PM |
Do people really think that starting a thread like this won't result in additional threads on the topic they're crying about?

I've seen one thread, but since you created a new one, now I've seen two, dumbass.

R13, there is one scene in E3 that will make your heart leap into your mouth the first time you view it. Even after seeing E3 numerous times that scene never fails to make me jump. (For those who have seen the movie, it's the scene in the hospital corridor where a nurse enters a room at the right of the screen.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | April 27, 2023 9:30 PM |
R12 Miss Lucy, strange but true fact: Jeffrey Dahmer always watched Exorcist 3 with his victims prior to drilling holes in their heads. I've watched the movie many times but can't grasp at what point Dahmer went off. There is no one scene that makes me think, "This is it", this is the scene that set him off. Super creepy.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | April 27, 2023 9:32 PM |
Thanks for the information, R18. That really is creepy.

[quote]R10: If it’s the original theatrical version, why wouldn’t it have the original logo?
Because they swapped it out. When re-releasing films, studios often do that. I'm a bit OCD about things like that, so I noticed. Seeing the logo from 'The Version You've Never Seen' (2000), I nearly reflexively deleted it off the DVR, but I watched a bit to see which version it would be. Apart from the logo, it was the 1973 theatrical version.
Here's that wrong logo:

I watched The Exorcist tonight (recorded from TCM) for the first time in decades. What struck me this time is that Bonnie Franklin appears to have modeled her look and her performance as Ann Romano on Ellen Burstyn in this film.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | April 28, 2023 3:25 AM |
R13, it’s supposed to start off slow to build the tension. There’s also no music in the film except a brief scene with Tubular Bells playing. That’s what makes it all the more disturbing. William Friedkin’s bs ground was in documentary’s and that’s how it was produced.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | April 28, 2023 3:36 AM |
I love that you can see the butler, Karl passed out on the floor during the crucifix scene as the chest of drawers moves. That was in the book. They didn’t make it a big thing in the film. It’s a total Easter egg. Karl was accused of putting the crucifix in her bedroom in an earlier scene.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | April 28, 2023 3:38 AM |
Thanks, r20.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | April 28, 2023 3:39 AM |
It’s really disturbing to see that real life gay serial killer holding Linda’s head still in the hospital scene and rubbing her back as she’s drinking a milk shake in another. Friedkin would go on to base his film “Cruising” on the guy.

As a kid I was absolutely terrified at the scene when Barbara walked in on Ann plunging a screwdriver into her cunt while screaming, "Let Schneider fuck you! Let Schneider fuck you!"

Do you mean in the book, r26? I don't recall seeing what you describe in the movie.
The crucifix itself was said to be part of a continuity error in the film, as Chris took it away from Regan and brought it downstairs right as Lt. Kinderman came calling. Therefore, how it got back to up to Regan's bedroom is intended to remain a mystery, or is actually an error on the part of the filmmakers.

Hmm. I'd always assumed that the demon put it in her room to begin with (in order to helpfully suggest a religious solution to the otherwise non-religious household), and perhaps transported it back from where Chris had moved it.
Who performed the desecration in Dahlgren Chapel? Are we supposed to think that Regan schlepped in her sleep over there with a big bucket of her modeling clay (that stuff wasn't cheap) and put inflamed tits and a dick on the Virgin Mary?
Perhaps the book clarifies all this stuff, but I read it a lifetime ago back in the late 70s/early 80s, and really don't recall.

Film Is William Friedkin's horror classic 'The Exorcist' actually cursed? Can a film be haunted? The strange events surrounding The Exorcist have convinced many film fans that the answer may be yes. Released in 1973, the William Friedkin horror classic tells the story of an innocent young girl possessed by a demonic spirit. On release, it sent a shiver down the world’s spine and quickly became the subject of critical debate. For some, it was regarded as evangelical claptrap, while certain Christian groups regarded it as a repellant example of anti-Christian pornography.

R34 in the book it's all but stated that Regan is responsible for the desecration in the church. Not so much in the movie.
R36 the TV series entitled The Exorcist was surprisingly good.

I’m bored so I’m watching it this morning as it’s in the “Last Chance” cue on MAX. I thought it had been a long time since I’d seen it, but I guess not as I’m remembering almost all of it.
This came out when I was a little kid and I was terrified to even hear anyone talk about it. Finally saw it in college..and..it certainly has creepy/good moments but I wasn’t terribly frightened by it. The scenes with the statue and the fighting dogs at the beginning, and the priest’s dream about his mother are scarier than a lot of the Pazuzu/special effects scenes.
I did think the tv series was good. Wish it had been on a streamer instead of Fox; it might have gotten more than 2 seasons.

Breaking - The Exorcist 4K UHD release is September 19, 2023 and they've dropped a fresh new trailer to accompany the release (embedded at link).Honestly it's the best trailer for this movie I've seen. And that's saying a lot.
It will be released in BOTH the 1973 theatrical and 2000 director's cut.
I think the timing is a cuntbone kick to the Believer release in October.
